Review: It's hard to believe that this split release is over twenty years old. Like a fine wine, its quality has improved with the passage of time. Deetron's contributions see him follow a deeply musical route. "Vibrando" resounds to atmospheric pads and a soaring Detroit-style melody. Even though he follows a more percussive approach on "Batuque", its rolling groove teems with mellow chord sequences. Samuel Session's "Rico Que Rico" follows a similar approach as "Batuque". However, it's more frenetic, with melodies unfolding over an insistent, loped groove. On "Guepa Guepita" Session opts for a more stripped back approach. But rather than sounding minimal, the bubbling rhythm teems with cowbells and vocal snatches - making for a rich cacophony.

Review: The latest release on Symbolism is a meeting of two great techno minds, as Swedish veteran Samuel L Session hooks up with Belgian hotshot Van Czar. "Morning Debris" sees the pair fuse wild acid sequences with rolling tribal drums. While "Marked Spot" is based on a similar rhythmic backdrop, the sound is deeper, as melancholic synths unravel over the lean groove. The title track sees Session and Van Czar put the focus on the drums and bass, as a pulsating low end unfolds over razor sharp percussion. "First Man" marks another shift, this time with the pair reverting to a tweaked acid sound, playing out over a driving groove.

Review: Veteran techno producer Samuel L Session teams up with rising star Van Czar to deliver a heads-down release on Ben Sims' Hardgroove. Inspired by the loop techno sound of the late 90s / early 00s - a period when Session first rose to prominence - this five-tracker is as nuanced as it is impactful. "Universal" revolves around a dense, layered groove and insistent percussion, while "Fetisch" is a more subtle, pulsating affair. Session and Czar opt for a peak-time approach on the chiming percussion of "Butterfly", while "Omnipresence" sees them focus on a dubby sound, with gritty kicks and a hypnotic groove prevailing.
