Review: Samurai Breaks on Born On Road? Now this we have to shout about! If you've been following Samurai Breaks' previous thumpers and howlers already then you'll know the firepower he brings. Upping the tempo just a smidgeon to bring it to Born On Road's dnb energy levels, the fire just got even hotter. Highlights flame out all over the shop but the opening cut slaps and slams with utter decadence, the title track is a super woozy, wobbly jam while 'Tuff Hornz' blows us away on the finish line. Wickedest by name and nature.

Shadow Tactics - (4:08) 57 BPM
Review: This time around on Super Sonic Booty Bangers, a vibrant collection of rave-ready rollers from the combined efforts of both Toby Ross & Samurai Breaks, delivering a sumptuous feeling from the jump. We open up with 'Make Me Feel', a dizzying shuffler, constantly alternating in overall rhythm and lurching left and right with a serious piece of subwork, followed by the hardcore influenced pulses of 'Helta Skelta', again upping the energy levels significantly. We then get into a hardened rave weapon in 'Bring It', which through smart drum sampling and gut-wrenching sub-processing, leads us perfectly onto the skimming hat shuffles and warbling LFO action of 'Shadow Tactics', which closes the EP out perfectly.

Review: If you are looking for a high energy collection of rave-ready rollers, then look no further than this explosive collection from Samurai Breaks, unleashing six absolute missiles for us all to enjoy. First up, the SSBB mix of Numba1 introduces the EP with a lethal level of impact, fusing high energy breaks with warbling subs to match, before 'Flatpack Shed' takes the energy levels ludicrously higher with its tidy collection of LFO bulges and drum pats. From here, it goes hardcore as 'Exclusive Dubplate Fyah' links together niche-style wobbles with classic rave pianos, before the drippy switchups and unpredictable vocal samples of 'Rush The System' send us back into a daze. Finally, a sped up niche feeling with '2Hour Pit Stop' lays the groundwork for 'Back To The Rave' to close off this monstrous collection in typical warbling style.

Manny Ravers / Homegrown
Sl8r & Samurai Breaks - "Manny Ravers" (feat MNT) - (4:56) 170 BPM Hot
Sl8r - "Homegrown" - (4:48) 174 BPM
Review: Sl8r and Samurai Breaks... Now this is a collab you could write home about! Who knows what your mum or dad might reply with? To be honest we don't really care, we're busy raving it up as the two lads pay homage to the northern rave scene with a savage sense of funk and timeless rave energy. Looking something with more of a classic bluesy vibe? Then look no further as Sl8r's also provided the beautifully funky breakbeat rinse-out 'Homegrown'. Think the playful, sample-sizzling funk of early 2000s Hozzy and you're not far off. Find a bridge and take something to it!

Review: What a monsterous collection of creations we have here as we explore the full range of breakbeat influences, from slower, more clunky original creations, to garage inspired rollers and everything in-between. The sheer mass of this collection is one of it's immediate charms as we are gifted over 50 originals and remixes, each one bringing something unique to the table from a supporting cast including the likes of Origin8a & Propa, Benton, MKII, Deekline, Samurai Breaks and more. The constant changes of direction and expansionary sense of sonic inclusion are both big yesses from us, with our favourites including 9Trane's nostalgic bubbler 'Thuggish', next to the housey piano drives of Herve's 'Live Together' and the old school garage flavour of Matt Jam Lamont, Echelon & Tuff Culture, who join focus for 'Massive & Crew'. Tidy work indeed!

Review: The Dreamcatcher Recordings team have a real reputation for unveiling forward thinking and exciting drum and bass music, especially within this fabulous self titled compilation series which today lands it's fifth official edition. The tracklisting is stacked up highly with top quality names, with HABIT, Samurai Breaks, Neve & DNN leading the way. There are of course some notable highlights from the project, which in itself covers quite a wide spectrum of where drum & bass is at in 2020, including the hardcore chord progressions and jittering drum slices of Harka's 'Body Talkin'. As well as this, we couldn't help but notice the super smooth synth lines 'Agua Viva' from Qua Rush, alongside the glittering soundscapes of Levrige's 'Full Circle' original.

Review: Very few labels are as on the cutting edge of jungle and drum & bass as The Dreamers, a Turin based label who blend vibrant breakbeats, four-four influences and anything else just that little bit different. This time around they've got frequent label presence Samurai Breaks in for a four-tracker, and the result is something very special.'Supa' is a straight up breakbeat banger, as rhythmic patterns oscillate in and out of consciousness, heeding the call of some seriously cool ravey sampling. The title tune is a four-four stomper with a classic rave piano that builds hype in a way only rave pianos can, and this one might not please purist 170 nerds but will certainly hype up the rest of us. The most out there is 'Clappa', which reminds us of Richie Brains on a mind-altering substance. Oh yes.

Review: It's time to dive into some delicious new breakbeat creations as Samurai Breaks land on Hardcore Energy for a very exciting four track selection, showcasing their breaksy brilliance. We kick off with the sounds of 'Putting In Werk', a smart roller, dripping in finesse and original breakbeat energy, followed by the more futuristic tripletted pulses of 'Rush'. Next, we move into the nostalgic realms of 'Bad Boy Beats', a super choppy, party ready rinse out, followed by 'Power Hour' as Private Caller gets involved on the perfect sign out track, laced with high energy drum manoeuvres and booming bass tones.

Review: The Dreamers Recordings have been busy it work it seems, as they here assemble a goliath roster to bring us some of the coldest half time and neuro-inspired arrangements we have heard so far this year. We hear some incredible production work from the likes of 'Am:x' on the sub-heavy rolls of 'Rectine' and the percussive brilliance of 'Belly Dance' from Neve & Frame. Our highlights for this one have to be the high energy drum skips and sub pushes of 'Fine As Fuck' from CGRECO and Malou Morkeberg, along with the pleasing junglist flavours of 'Pump Up The Volume' from Samurai Breaks.

Review: The Dreamers have seriously hit the jackpot on this one as they invite in the enigmatic sounds of Samurai Breaks for six tracks of pure shellery, encompassing the perfect blend of modern jungle and juke throughout. We kick off with the oldschool bass tones of the title track 'Pump Up The Volume', which is followed by the wicked synthesis of 'No Need' and hardcore influenced sample twist ups of 'Party Starter'. The project then switches into somewhat of a half time funk up as 'Face Down' rolls into view, followed by the pumping 4x4 drum smashes of 'Hood Romance', rounding everything off with the potent sub pressure and catchy vocal slices of 'Attention'.

Review: Samurai Breaks debuts on Forest Biz with his third release to date, and we have to say that his particular strain of beat-driven bass music is becoming more and more addictive by the week. Pick N Mix is a perfect representation of both his skills and style, mashing up all sorts of East Asian influences together with rough, percolating beats from the depth of the UK hardcore spectrum. Broken, jagged, lagged-up and bassed-out, this is the gnarliest form of UK-steppin' that we've heard in donkey's years, and it forms what is likely to be a long and prosperous road ahead for Samurai Breaks. Large up!!!
