Make Your Day EP
In The Night - "Love Drop" - (8:16) 116 BPM
Played by: 80's Child
Review: Whatever Whiskey Disco serves up on their regular multi-artist re-edit EPs, it's invariably high quality. Happily, that's certainly the case with the material showcased on Make Your Day. You'll struggle to find a more positive and hedonistic chunk of disco-funk/boogie rearrangement than Derek Kaye's rolling revision "Sing a Song", while Sandrobianchi and Tripman's "Strawberry Letter" is extraordinarily loved up and psychedelic in the best possible way (and, yes, it's definitely Balearic). The EP also includes some high-grade, synth-laden electrofunk (Rabo & Snob's ace "No One Can Do It") and more than a sprinkling of AOR disco camp (In The Night's thrillingly tongue-in-cheek "Love Drop").

Review: It may be detox January for some, but for Yam Who, it's champagne o'clock as he sees his label series reach its tenth volume. There's a mind boggling 27 tracks featured here, a veritable smorgasbord of deliciously disco tuneage. Highlights include the chaotic hiNRG of Seamus Haji's "ReLoved", the tough, but soulful, jacker "Many Lovers" by Judge Funk and the smooth, synth-boogie of "Takes Me Out" by G Prajekts.

The Lament
The LamentEXCLUSIVE
The Lament (Fingermans Hot Digits rework) - (8:00) 115 BPM
Girl (original mix) - (6:46) 114 BPM
Review: There's something deliciously laidback and sultry about "The Lament", the first collaborative single from Madrid-based producers Tripmann and Sandrobianchi. The track is built around a head-nodding, midtempo deep house groove, but it's the variety of sweet, sensual samples - think eyes-closed jazz guitar solos, bluesy vocals and hazy trumpets - that stand out. Fingerman's impressive remix injects a little extra energy via a sub-heavy bassline, sample cut-ups and heavy, bongo-laden disco percussion. The EP's undisputed highlight, though, is Dynamicron's remix of "Girl", which turns the woozy, sun-kissed original into a stylish, slightly intense chunk of Balearic disco crossed with exotic, new wave-era middle Eastern synth-pop.
