Review: An 11-track compilation of modern day funk and disco here from Norway's Walking Disco stable. While Rayko and C Da Afro are both represented, the emphasis generally is on lesser-known names, but there's still plenty of quality on offer. Fingerman conjures the classier, jazzier end of 80s boogie nicely on 'Mind Fonk', while equally convincing are the mid-70s velvet-suited disco vibes of Disco Funk Spinner's 'Fascinating Strike'. Funk Hunk apes classic Moroder on 'After Dark', while label owner Saskin S bookends the collection with two slow-moving funk jams, 'Yes, You Know I'm Right' and 'My Pnoop'. Classy stuff.

Review: Norwegian producer Saskin S pitches up on Masterworks Music for the very first time. As with his previous outings for the likes of Hot Digits and Thunder Jam, the "Night Grooves" EP is packed with colourful, high quality material. Check, for example, the Blaxploitation funk guitars, low-slung grooves and densely layered percussion of loop-driven opener "Another Technique", the acid-driven (nu) disco-funk madness of "What Is Breakbeat?" and the formidably bluesy, jazzy and wonderfully atmospheric deep house shuffle of "What Do You Need?". Arguably best of all, though, is title track "Night Grooves", a sparkling chunk of '80s soul-meets-nu-disco cheeriness rich in colourful synthesizer lines, atmospheric chords, twinkling melodies and low-slung dub disco grooves.

Review: The team behind Thunder Jam is dreaming of a "Fantasy Fling". Given that the compilation is an expansive, 21-track affair (sorry), it would be safe to say that they're thinking of a steamy, all-action romance rather than a disappointing one-night stand. Musically, the cuts on offer tend towards the warm and loved-up, with Adata's dreamy deep house opener "Marlena Soul" and the glassy-eyed Balearic disco heat of Aure Zwins' "Long Way" setting the tone. Highlights include the loopy, filter-heavy bounce of Celestino's Lionel Richie-sampling "Rhythm", the twinkling, picturesque nu-disco cheeriness of Double F.O.G's "Bang Bao Boulevard", the synth-heavy boogie revivalism of "Fangkok" by Ivan Fabra and the low-slung dub disco-goes-jazz flex of Noil Rago's "J.Club".

Review: More from Saskin S, a Norway-based producer who is fast becoming one of Thunder Jam's most reliable artists. Long Time To End begins with with the sweet, soul-flecked "Avenger Force", a P-funk era electrofunk jam given a subtle, 21st century makeover, before this S-man reaches for the filters to give a funk-fuelled '80s soul jam a rolling, mid-set tweak on "Extra Special". Even better is the skewed funk-goes-house shuffle of "Greenshaker", where horn and woodwind solos provide an exotic focal point. Elsewhere, he serves up an "Extended Dub" of rolling disco-boogie-meets-italo-disco number "The Chaplin Rockers" and dips into harder electrofunk territory via the ricocheting drums, booming sub-bass and thickset synths of "The Key Tone".

Review: Thunder Jam's latest release is something of a sprawling epic; a 23-track "Invasion" featuring some of the hottest names in the re-edit and nu-disco scenes, alongside contributions from lesser-known talents. There's much to admire throughout, from the low-slung boogie bass and cut glass disco strings of Phil Da Burn's "Wallflower" and the spacey synth-funk of Funk Bank's wiggly "Jamming With The Thunder", to the bouncy disco/New Jersey garage fusion of BOI's "The Gift" and the straightened-out sunshine soul of Dee Bunk's "Little Brown Eye Girl". Throw in solid contributions from Don Dayglo, Belabouche, C Da Afro and Andy Buchan, and you've got a pleasingly varied set of floor-friendly excursions.

Review: Gregg "Fingerman" Holmes has clearly been monitoring the career of Saskin S. The Norwegian producer's stock has steadily risen in the two years since he made his debut - thanks in no small part to a string of well received releases - and here Holmes has offered him a first release for Hot Digits. He begins with the dreamy, hypnotic "Drop The Beat", where old school hip-hop vocal samples mingle with cymbal-heavy drum machine percussion, soft focus chords and delay-laden horn snippets, before dropping the pitched-down dub disco shuffle of "Downtown". The producer's deep house influences come to the fore on the sun-kissed bliss of "Jump Street", while "Game" sees him take a slightly deeper, tougher approach to deep house/disco fusion.
