Review: Boite Music is the baby brother of Fran Deeper's Spa In Disco stable, specialising in "synth, chugging Balearic and power disco". If you've yet to dip into the label's catalogue - or simply just can't get enough of it - then this nine-track compilation is well worth a listen. It begins with a throbbing and pulsating slab of exotic, Italo-tinged nu-disco (Cobertizo's 'Inana') and ends with the mind-mangling dark-Italo chug of Manuel Costela's synth-heavy 'Girls of the Night'; in between, you'll find a variety of trippy, heavily electronic treats including such highlights as the Bobby Orlando-on-sleeping pills shuffle of 'Glide' by Saturno 5, the occidental disco exoticism of Jason Core's 'Istanbul', and the atmospheric, delay-laden vocal nu-disco pulse of Rayko's 'Solstice'.

Review: The Boite Music label arrives with a fresh various artist EP as its introduction taking in a swathe of electrified disco, industrial Italo and body music for the masses. Turning acid techno and heavy rave elements into something smooth and spiralling is Ivan Fanra and "Acid Noise" next to the '80s inspired arpeggios and Lindrum snare slams of Jason Peters' "Along The Road". Molinar & Mijo's channel some Dirtybird-esque bubble and squelch sounds in their track "Sixteen" while Ilya Santana & Rayko are hit up for a synth-waving "Flashlight At 7AM" that cruises next to Sauco's "East End Boys" with some pumping, exotic and instrumental themes. Yeah Boite!

Review: St German's 'Alabama Blues' is a stone-cold classic that helped push deep house to new musical heights, and that was given the definitive dancefloor makeover from Todd Edwards 25 years ago. We definitely don't need a discofied remix of it now... you would think, wouldn't you? But oh look, here comes Spanish nu-disco stalwart Sauco to prove us all wrong, because 'Uplifting Blues' is absolutely, 100 per cent irresistible! It comes accompanied by 'World Funk', which is a sprightly, uptempo jazz-funk workout in its Original form, before being given a pounding, housed-up remix courtesy of The Stoned.

Review: A definite case of wearing your heart on your sleeve here, as Discoholics Anonymous serve up an eight-track collection of tracks built for when you and that special someone are (ahem) getting better acquainted. Some of the tracks here are straight-up re-edits - Gwen McCrae's "Let's Straighten It Out" becomes Lup Ino's "Tossing And Turning", while Billy Paul's "Let's Make A Baby" is reworked by The Found Sound Orchestra and FF Edits revisit a much-loved Bobby Caldwell classic. Others are seemingly original productions, while stylistically the album ranges from scratchy leftfield hip-hop to mellow Balearica to smooth soul... but as a set, it should serve its purpose perfectly.

Review: Contemporary disco with the funk and soul in full effect is the order of the day on this V/A offering from Ravanelli Disco Club. Vigi's opening 'Loving You' comes from the more discofied end of the deep house and garage spectrum and should be a small-hours cert, after which comes Kousto's 'Save My Soul', which marries rolling tribal drums to a looped soulful male vocal, and as such should work on soul and soulful house floors alike. It's then time to get up, stand up as Sauco's aptly-titled 'Twisted Funk' takes us into struttier territory, before finally Donny Rotten brings the 70s-inspired nu-disco vibes with 'Her Way'.

Review: French label Citizens of Vice welcomes the Canary Islands' very own Sauco to the mix with the Sun Goddess EP featuring sleeper hit "Sun Goddess". With the lead track tripping out on flamenco-like guitars, looped disco-machine grooves and balearic synth, it undergoes a funk and ballroom workout in Lanowa's worthy remix. With Rayko dubbing out the guitars, tuning his synths and pumping up the Roland in his Italo-inspired version of "Soulstice", it's the undeniable vamp, build and crescendo of the original within it mega groove that does the trick on us here.

Review: As the title suggests, Spa In Disco's latest multi-artist extravaganza is aimed aquarely at dancefloors, though in these times is more likely to inspire bedroom DJs to dance around their kitchens or living rooms. There's plenty to get the juices flowing amongst the eight tracks on show. Check first the rubbery bass, sparkling pianos and summery nu-disco vibes of Future Feelings' rushing "Bold Drink", before turning your attention to the revivalist Italo-disco chug of Sauco's "Orion" and the hard-wired, acid-flecked analogue chug of Ilya Santana's superb "Obscure". Highlights elsewhere on the EP include the revivalist electrofunk chunkiness of Juan Soto's "Oh Ziggy, Will You Ever Win", the dreamy Balearic breakdowns of Rayko's "Jungle" and the up-beat nu-disco cheeriness of Aimes' "Caf? Disco".

Review: Born back in 2008, Rayko's Rare Wiri mark their 200th release with an album-length compilation featuring 12 brand new cuts from what the man himself describes simply as "some of my favourite artists out there". The album starts out in laidback, Balearic mode with Secret Soul Society's 'Draw Of The Cards' and ends up back there with Manolo's 'By The Moon', but in-between you'll find the looping, funked-up deep house of Fran Deeper's 'Lost Baby', the shape-throwing 80s Faltermeyer-isms of Kelton Prima's 'The Beggining', Ilya Santana's floor-friendly cover of Vangelis's 'Dervish D', the electro nouveau of From Beyond's 'Star Slip' and more besides. Review: With a title like 'Cosmic Memories' your middle name doesn't need to be Sherlock to work out what's going on here, as Rare Wiri bring us a nine-track collection that pays homage to the trippy, synth-fuelled disco of early 80s Italy. Who better to kick things off, then, than cosmic disco originator Daniel Baldelli, with his and DJ Rocca's remix of Manolo's 'Amalfi Drive'? That sets the tone nicely for an album that's long on glacial synths, 80s-sounding electronic drum beats, Euro-style vox and dramatic magenta blusher... okay, you can only actually HEAR the first three of those, but you get the idea! Phoreski's 'Slow Down' stands out for yours truly, packing as it does a little more of Da Funk.

Review: There was a time when Balearic meant "play what you want, as long as it makes people dance"; then, somewhere along the way, we fell into a bit of a rut and it came to mean "lots of achingly lovely soundscapes replete with fey, wispy female vocals, wave sounds and fluttering flamenco guitar". This collection from Rare Wiri, then - ranging as it does from Jerome La Souris' disco-fied take on MAW classic 'To Be In Love' to the proggy throb of Cuz Electric's 'Polly', and from the nu-boogie strut of Sauco's 'Get Off' to Rayko's 'Drive', which comes on like coldwave meets yacht rock - is a good chance to remind ourselves of what 'Balearic' was originally meant to be about!

Review: There's no shortage of Italo- and cosmic-inspired disco around at the mo' and, with 'Italians Do It Better' opening this EP, it's fair to say you know what you're getting here! 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' is probably the pick for the hardcore Italo-philes with its Carpenter-esque synths, 'Blue Monday'-nodding b-line and sci-fi sonic stylings, while the smoother-flowing 'Italians...' probably has slightly broader dancefloor appeal. Competing the package is 'End Titles', a midpaced affair that's essentially a homage to the synth-pop and coldwave of early/mid-80s Europe - one for those whose DJ sets include obscure Falco album cuts n' such.

Review: After 12 years in the game, Spanish nu-disco stable have reached the 100-release milestone, and they're celebrating with an imaginatively titled compilation packing eight brand new tracks that have been handpicked by label boss Rayko. Obviously, with eight tracks from as many artists there's a fair degree of stylistic variety on offer, but the emphasis generally is on heavily electronic grooves - sometimes veering into Balearic/coffee table pastures, sometimes served with a darker, more leftfield twist. It's really more of a home listening album than a collection of club cuts, but for dancefloor purposes start with the contributions from Ilya Santana and Sauco...

Review: Over the last couple of years Sauco has prioritized collaborative work with fellow Spaniard Manuel Costela, so it's good to see him returning to solo action via a first EP on Rare Wiri. There's much to enjoy on "The Wiri Tapes", from the hybrid boogie/nu-disco bounce of "Catch My Eye" - all D-Train style synth-bass, chiming mid-80s melodies, fizzing synth solos and clipped guitar riffs - to the dreamy mid-tempo warmth of closing cut "Get Off", another tactile number whose sustained chords, bubbly electronics and morning-fresh sounds are as sun-kissed as they come. Sandwiched in between you'll find the appropriately named "Cosmic Coin", a slow motion throb-job built around Italo-disco style arpeggio lines, swirling chords and drifting vocal samples.

Review: Arriving just in time for the summer season, Hot Digits delivers a compilation that is tailor made to soundtrack lazy, hazy days. Even Funkier's "Feel So Good Inside" is an irresistible, funk-fuelled disco groove, while Ben Jamin's "Handle" inhabits a similar space. Soaked in wailing guitar and soulful vocals, it's a wonderfully infectious track. Both Andy Buchan and P-Sol raise the tempo with string-filled disco workouts, while Fray Bentos' "Danced To Death" offers a more electronic take on this sound. The compilation does veer towards house on occasion - most impressively with the subtle drum builds and chord progressions on Down Under Disco's "On My Mind". In the main though, Year Nine impresses most when it draws on disco and funk influences, such as the raucous party jam that is label owner Fingerman's collaboration with Chewy Rubs, "Block Party Bad Boy".

Review: For their 100th release, Hot Digits bring us a truly outstanding collection that gathers together the best of the label's last 50 outings. Just one look at the talent roster involved should be enough to get any contemporary disco lover's tastebuds tingling, replete as it is with names like Fingerman, Dexter Jones, Fray Bentos, C Da Afro, Dave Mathmos and Jet Boot Jack, and suffice to say the music they provide doesn't disappoint one iota! With 30 full-length cuts plus two hour-long DJ mixes there's no room here to go into every track, but whether you like it deep n' chuggy, funky n' furious or boogie-tastic n' soul-tinged, you'll find plenty of fresh ammo for your disco machine gun here.

Review: Four phat slices of nu-disco/funk here from Sauco, who's based in Gran Canaria, Spain. Instrumental workout 'Whatcha Like' has synthesized brass stabs by way of a lead line, with a fat n' squelchy electronic bassline below; 'Jealous' is a deeper, more stripped-back affair with a dreamy "don't be jealous" vocal snip (but not the Black Magic sample), while 'Calling You' has a rawer funk sound with the brass firmly front and centre. All three are eminently playable, but the standout here is 'Delicious' itself, an aptly-titled sultry, slo-mo chugger that could've come straight off a 'Too Slow To Disco' compilation - outstanding stuff.

Review: Having recently notched up a sixth year in business, Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint is in a celebratory mood - hence this all-action round-up of recent delights and unheard treats from the disco-loving label. Encompassing no less than 30 tunes, the collection giddily skips between warming beatdown disco (P-Sol's "Walter"), Mark E style slo-mo loop jams (Vigi's "I'll Be There") and glassy-eyed Balearic nu-disco (Picklejam's "Untitled Love"), before raising its hands skywards as the peak-time party-starters begin to appear thick and fast. Highights in this category include the vibrant jazz-house flex of Dexter Jones' "Swing Thing", the bustling boogie re-edit business of Monsieur Von Pratt's "Let's Dance" and the hearty disco-funk heaviness of Chewy Rubs' "Funky Bee Bop".
