Review: New label Bunda Locca drops on us with some much needed Brazilian heat. It's a beautifully diverse and funked-out compilation of some of the country's most promising talents on the beats. There's a bit of everything in here, from DJ Sandrinho's nutty sampling on "Beimbau" to DJ Edgar's 'salsa-step' on "Samuel Mix". It's basically all the cutting edge and forward-thinking minds coming out of Rio's inner soul, and they work mightily well in our dancehalls, too - fire!
Review: Undoubtedly one of the best artist names to have arisen in modern music, Schlachthofbronx come straight outta Munich with some punishing basslines, chopped up vocals and oodles of production prowess to bring us this single on Disko B. First up is "Slowine", which is full of belching bass, hollow drum kicks, grinding synths and disorientating vocas which echo amongst the piece with a narcotic twist. "Dickie Riddim (feat. Warrior Queen)" continues this musical journey into the unknown with feisty, funky vocals from Warrior Queen adding an extra punch to the swaggering tune. A big release - get to know!
Review: Much-feted Munich party-smashers Schlachthofbronx have the honour of being the first to delve into Man's baile funk-referencing back catalogue for this inaugural "DJ Picks" compilation. Daniel Haaksman's gonzo, ghetto-house banger "Pobum Coco" makes the cut, as does Crookers' "Para De Grainha", which features some hefty tropical wobble as well as Brazilian vocalist MC Leka. Some underrated Man classics also make the cut - look out for Genghis Clan's storming "Gathina" or the proto-moombahton of El Remolon's "Vem Que Tem" in particular.
