Review: This three-tracker marks the Vintage Music debut of Scruscru, a producer who has been quietly going about his business for the past couple of years. Like much of Vintage Music's catalogue, there's a summery warmth and gently sun-kissed vibe present throughout. We're particularly enjoying the colourful guitar riffs, twinkling melodies, wonky electronics and metronomic deep house drums of trippy, dubbed-out shuffler "Burevestnik (feat. J Balanov)", though sumptuous Balearic deep house closer "Sormowskie Zori" - all bustling drums, cascading echo-laden guitars and eyes closed melodies - is also rather good. That said, the title track's combination of crunchy snares, tactile melodies and swirling disco samples also ticks all the right boxes.

Review: Sunny side up: Saint Petersberg's Sunner Soul returns with another exceptional, groove-kissed selection. Taking the lead with four of his own works, we're treated to lavish strings on "Feel So Good", our trousers are charmed off by the sultry jazz feels of "Soul Liberty", we're drowned in soaking wet filtered finesse on "Swindle Mode" and teased with the lolloping conga/bass groove on his edit of "Sweet Honey". Meanwhile last year's critically received newcomer Scruscru gets busy with a delicious sample over some chunky-assed jacking beats. Can you dig it?

Review: Saint Petersburg scene stalwart Sunner Soul once again opens up the vaults of his Vintage Music imprint and serves up a selection of solid summery grooves, soul-flecked grooves, disco-charged jams and intoxicating, floor-friendly re-rubs. The bulk of the material comes from the man himself, with highlights including the breezy, horn-toting sunshine funk warmth of "Rescue of Time", the starry jazz-funk synths and rubbery house grooves of "Swindle Mode" and the loopy, synth-laden boogie-house bump of "Music Freak". Elsewhere, Lolita Kox's "I Think I Love You" is a deliciously beefed-up and celebratory rework of a stone cold disco classic and Scruscru's "Burevestnik" is a deliciously swinging, full-throttle take on a jazzy disco-funk obscurity.

Review: Six tracks here from Russia's Scruscru (AKA Anton Bogomolov) that blur the boundaries between deep house, jazz, funk and lounge music. 'Faineant' is a tripped-out slice of uneasy listening, 'Les Tricheurs' brings the jazz-funk vibes, 'Day Drifting' is a leftfield jazzer, 'A Toda Velacidad!' is downtempo and lounge-y, 'Lamantin's Dream' is an involving sofa/headphones-based listen, while 'Za So Cho' is the closest thing to a straight-up deep house cut on the EP, albeit with strong hints of electro in the mix. Those are, however, the loosest of ballpark descriptions: this EP is a truly unique-sounding ride that'll take a few listens to really sink in.

Review: For their fifth release, the Marseille-based Ravanelli Disco Club crew has turned to the combined talents of Scruscru last seen and heard on Nomada Records and Jehan (a regular contributor to the always on-point Star Creature label). Title track "Teuf De Ouf" is giddily cheery and sees the pair wrap warm Rhodes stabs and jazzy horn samples around a bustling groove that arguably owes a debt to the jazz-house era work of St Germain. Joe Corti weighs in with the obligatory remix, offering up a smoother and chunkier deep house version that makes much more use of twinkly electric piano sounds. Elsewhere, "Jive Y'all" is a warm, sample-heavy fusion of jazz-funk sounds and disco-powered house grooves, while "Lawka Chudes" is a deeper take on the pair's favoured jazzy house sound.

Review: Belarus' Iner launches a new label with a strong cast of international names all pushing a deep and distinguished strain of house music for those who want soul and invention in equal measure. Tilman is up first with 'Sweet Dreamer', a mellow, looped up roller. Sune's 'Flutes' takes a breezier approach shaped out by fluttering jazz funk motifs. Yann Polewka celebrates the sweetest Philly strings and some classic vocal licks for a disco-infused burner you can't help but love. Iner himself keeps things loose and organic on the wonderful 'Respectfull Kind Music', while Scruscru goes for a sleek approach to chopped up funky house. That leaves it to Buzz Compass to get heady and hazy with the bass-leaning cuts coursing through 'That Nighter'.

Review: Introducing an artist that's been on the scene for some three-to-four years now - and picking up plaudits by the release - is Russian funk, disco and soulsmith ScruScru. He arrives on Omena - of course home to the music of HNNY, Seb Wildblood and Mella Dee among others - and does so with the suggestion of a return visit. But first and foremost, South Wind, Clear Sky Part 1 brings the sounds of ScruScru (real name Anton Bogomolov) to a whole new cosmic level - just take one listen to "Maneki-Neko". With the artist's blend of jazz-funk, seductive disco-powered house, topping percussion and warm rhodes, ScruScru's experimental beatmaking goes west!

Review: Those who buy physical releases may already have come across this debut missive from Russuan kabek Deeppa. The compilation style EP - the first of a series under the Perfect Duality title - dropped on wax back in November 2020 and here appears on digital download for the very first time. Scruscru delivers a superb EP opener in the shape of 'Mellow Yellow', a drowsy and gently breezy mid-tempo number rich in fluttering flutes and other organic instrumentation, before Jehan opts for mazy electric piano licks and chunky beats on 'Once Again'. Elsewhere, Hotmood's 'Reach Out & Touch' is a deep disco-house treat, SofaTalk's 'Love in Slo Mo' is a sparkling slab of horizontal jazz-funk and Replika's 'Rings of Saturn' is a spacey, warm and rolling deep house box jam.

Review: This V/A collection from Russian label Deeppa is sitting in our Funk section but across its four tracks the terms 'jazz-funk' or 'deep house' could equally well apply. 'Slightly Wiggle' from Scruscru, for instance, starts out in deep house/Balearic chug mode, flirts with funk-breaks then busts out some late 50s/early 60s-style jazz sax, while the same artist's S.Timoshenko collab 'Jubilee Boulevard' is nu-disco via St Germain, 'Black Mirror' by Common Mode nods to the jazzier side of Detroit techno and finally Flabaire plays us out in 4am deep house mode, again with the influence of a certain M. Navarre clearly on show.

Delivering their fourth release since kick starting in 2020, both Scruscru & S.Timoshenk return with the collaborative session in "Jubilee Boulevard" - full of laid back grooves, sunshine rhodes and sweet mix of disco-house vibes. Scruscru goes it alone on "Slightly Wiggle" with a jazz funk number that sees slower beats hold it down for horns, keys and laces of funk to take over. Get Deeppa.

Review: Since its inception in 2018 the wonderfully titled SlothBoogie has delivered a sweet run of house, disco and garage inspired tracks. The label now welcomes Scruscru to its fold, with the artist bringing one Mike Fot with him in Spliff Jamz Vol 1. At four tracks large the pair explore dope electro beats and sparse and trippy vocals in a UK-Chicago inspired house joint, "Got U", next to some high energy soul sensations in "Hauz Bonger". "Spliff Jazz" sees the pair deliver a long and smokey intro to then be punctuated by snappy broken beats, trippy trumpets, righteous chords and sweet atmospheres to fall in suite next to the mellow and kicked back, beachy acid trip of "Lazy Daydreaming". The name of the EP says it all. Blaze up.

Review: The SlothBoogie team have delivered a real treat with this one as Mike FOT & Scruscru team up for the epic sounds of 'Spliff Jamz Vol 2'. We open up with the acidic sounding synthesis and constantly shifting rhythmic backdrops of 'K60K', which despite being a slow burner, continues to grow and expand as we listen. The future-house chord textures and bubbling basslines of 'Enjoint' then follow, adding a serious dose of energy to the EP, before 'Hummus Dealer' unleashes a very organic set of drum sounds to launch the dance into a next level of euphoria. Finally, we find ourselves sitting next to a dreamy, almost Malibu style sonic backdrop as the slower, more groovy arrangements of 'Bro'ccoli Lasagna' see us into the sunset.

Review: Fresh from the release of his latest killer collaboration with regular studio buddy Mike Fot on SlothBoogie - the must-check Spliff Jamz Volume 2 - Scruscru goes solo via his first EP for emerging St Petersburg label Craft Music. Aiming to get dancers leaping from foot to foot as if walking on boiling hot sand, the Russian producer first fuses scorching Latin horns, carnival disco percussion and chunky house beats on party-starting opener 'Fiesta 24/7', before re-imaging an obscure Latin track as a mambo-house monster on the equally celebratory (and pleasingly acid-soaked 'El Rayero'). Title track 'Hot Sand' is a trumpet-sporting slab of tactile, sunset-friendly deep house warmth, while 'Musique D'ameublement' is a pedal steel-sporting, mid-tempo sample house chugger.

Review: Craft Music's taste in sizzling hot party music is absolutely confirmed as razor sharp with this third instalment of edits and re-rubs with a twist. Far from vanilla re-arrangements, these re-versions get fruity with the source material and on Good For Dance there's a particular emphasis on acid. First up Scruscru & Aman Po-Kaifu get right down and dirty with Nigerian classic 'Salem' by The Funkees, whipping up a veritable storm with 'Acid Salam'. Next up Skitcut gets into a serious stomp laden with wriggling 303 action on 'Zaletaet Na Acid', and Funkyjaws has some fun weaving slamming claps and nimble bleeps into the brassy source material for 'Acid Circus'. Eddie C rounds things off with a proper rubbery acid tweaker which slips in smooth on 'Dysk Dzokej On Acid'. Classy stuff, and whole heaps of fun for those who love acid, those who love disco, and those who love both.

Review: An EP featuring four different artists from the relatively new label from DJ and producer Anton Bogomolov aka Scruscru (SlothBoogie Jamz/Omena), although it has to be said its individuality and freshness are increasingly upping its profile as each new released drops. Russian duo Street Choice open up this time round, getting the swears in in a matter of seconds (and throughout) but lifting us into orbit with 'Still On Is MF Record', a gloriously sweat soaked collision of house, disco and US garage. Evidently feeling a bit more mellow, Scruscru himself offers up a Flute mix of 'Long & Sleepless Nights', evoking jazzier French house scenesters like Etienne de Crecy or St Germain. Juravlove's 'Boys & Girls' ups the tempo again and the mood with it, a cure acid line sneaking in behind more organic instrumentation. The more reflective Nephews' 'Polo Blanco' brings things to a warm, more snuggly close, ultimately leaving us with an EP that has heaps of variety and quality in equal measures.
