Review: You can tell the age of a horse by counting its teeth, the age of a tree by counting its rings, and the age of a dance music reviewer by counting how many 'Cafe Del Mar' comps are stored away in his/her/their memory banks! That sadly makes this writer about 250 years old, but thankfully the series has recently hit a serious run of form and this latest volume is a delight from start to finish, kicking off as it does in dubwise territory before veering briefly into lo-fi hip-hop and then bringing the classic-style Balearic vibes. With detours into fluffy pop, pointless ambience or self-indulgent neo-classicism conspicuous by their absence, it's everything that's good about the Ibiza sundown experience distilled into two hours of chilled listening pleasure.

Review: Seb Wildblood's last release, critically acclaimed album 'Do You Feel It Too?', was an undeniable delight. Pleasingly, this EP for Oath, which marks his first outing since, is equally as inspired. He begins with 'Re-Location.zip', a pleasingly warm, dreamy and atmospheric breakbeat number underpinned by drowsy chords and weighty sub-bass, before joining the dots between nostalgic, acid-infused prototype progressive house (think early, rather than late, 90s) and Italian dream house on the similarly tactile 'Floor Science'. Title track 'Vitara 3000' follows, with waves of attractive electronics and eyes-closed synths riding a lusciously loved-up house groove, before Central delivers a chunky, bouncing and rolling revision of the same track.

Review: When it comes to picking remixers, the Omena crew is on the money. Certainly, we can't think of a stronger selection of left-of-centre deep house producers than the crew they've assembled to remix tracks from Seb Wildblood's album The One With The Emoticon. It's arguably Telephones who steals the show via an 11-minute revision of "Wet Plants" that's high on dreamy melodic touches, eyes-closed electronics, warm bass and heavy, densely layered percussion, though Kornel Kovacs' deeper, dustier and more left-of-centre house rub of "Wet Summer" is equally as potent when it comes to club rotations. Horizontal, head-in-the-clouds thrills come via the Yu Su and D.K remixes, with the latter's blissful and drifting take on "Interlude" sounding like a long-lost, 1980s new age ambient treat. In a word: essential.

Review: Church founder Seb Wildblood rounds of a relatively quiet year with one of his most sumptuous releases to date - a lovingly deep and dreamy affair that sounds like the audio of equivalent of fragrant mulled wine and extra-rich mince pies. This drowsy festive vibe is particularly evident on the head-nodding downtempo beat science of instrumental hip-hop shuffler "Pass the Pen", but can also be heard amongst the lilting, reverb-laden trumpet lines, whispered Rhodes chords and undulating drums of "Familiar Boundaries". Those looking for dancefloor highlights should check the two versions of "Necessary Happiness". Choose between the jazzy keys solos and breezy atmosphere of the original version and the luscious dream house revivalism of the "Mad Sax Mix".

Review: The Church (that's the label, mind you) affiliated Seb Wildblood returns with the aptly titled Melodic Tools, which does exactly what it says on the tin for his SW imprint. On "MT01" be prepared for some deeply emotive house complete with heart warming chords, soothing bell tones and dusty rhythms; ticks all the right boxes really! Following in suit is "MT02" which is a bit more upbeat but equally as bittersweet in a classic Mr Fingers/ Alleviated kind of way, riding that immaculately programmed TR-808 rhythm all the way home!
