Review: France meets Germany as, on this latest from their P.O.D Cross label, French crew Politics Of Dancing team up with Berlin's Cab Drivers and Sebo K, separately, on one track apiece. 'Politics Of Dancing X Cab Drivers' is a deep/tech house chugger, underpinned by solid kicks and throbbing bass, and topped with intricate, shuffling percussion and barely-there synth bleeps. 'Politics Of Dancing X Sebo K' operates in similar territory but has more of an eyes-down feel, a more prominent topline and smoother percussion sounds, making this the pick for 3am deep house floors while the Cab Drivers collab will rock more minimal-leaning spots
Review: Sebo K has always had a knack of crafting emotive house and techno, so it's no real surprise that his latest release is shot through with atmospheric sensibilities. This aesthetic is audible from the get-go: "Nebula" is led by a tripped out acid line, but it's the booming hardcore bass and the jazzy keys that really push the listener back to a more carefree time in electronic music's recent past. On the reflective "Sous Les Etoiles", the German producer goes deeper again as wispy synth lines and ghostly melodies showcase his expertise. The title track sees Sebo map out a new direction thanks to the use of crisp break beats - albeit coated in soft focus melodies - while "Pink Moon" concludes the release again with breathy, effervescent sounds.
Review: Being in the game for over 15 years, Sebastian Kloft has a vast discography. A longtime stalwart of the Mobilee label, until spreading his wings and leading to some of his most creative and exciting output thus far. His vinyl only label Scenario has had releases from top producers such as Ian Pooley, DJ Honesty, Jus Ed, Dan Curtin and DJ Deep. Moreover the Berlin native's continual rise includes releases on Bass Culture, Robsoul Recordings and Tsuba. Which leads us to Sebo K's debut on Matt Edwards' esteemed Rekids imprint - which 'exhibits a refreshing sound from the established artist' and we couldn't agree more! The album is possibly a tribute to the many phases of electronic music he has lived through. The dubby breaks driven '90s electronica on "Paradigm Change" is reminiscent of Future Sound Of London or Sabres Of Paradise. "Messier 78" with it's sensual elements and rumbling sub-bass is like jazzy drum & bass from the same era: just minus the Amens. Elsewhere, "Xhale" channels the spirit of his hometown heroes Cabinet Recordings (namely the acid energy of the legendary Lemon8), while "Transitions" with its emotive and soulful tones channels the British IDM sound of early Peacefrog or Planet E.
Review: Given his usual productivity, Mobilee man Sebo K has been rather quiet of late. This is his only his third outing in three years, and sees him make his belated debut for Phil Weeks' Robsoul Recordings. It's arguably more solid than sensational, with Catalyst delivering a trio of floor-friendly DJ tools. He offers a nod towards classic French filter disco and vintage Mr G productions on the bumpin' title track - all bold bass, relentless rhythms and a few choice effects - before wandering off in a more obviously soulful, dusty direction on the Andres style bumper "It's Alright (Raw Mix)". Finally, he delves deeper into deep house/tech-house crossover territory on the smooth and intricate "Ojo Rojo".
Review: Kevin Griffith's Tsuba knows slinky tech house better than anyone. Berlin's Sebo K has shown for close to a decade that he knows how to execute it. What more could you add to this equation you say? Well how about getting the godfather of deep house Larry hard AKA Mr Fingers in to show his deft hand at remixing and turning in three versions of "Aquamarine" that are pure gold. The "Acid Dub" displays his mastery of the 303 yet again over a smooth atmospheric groove. The "Raw Dub" is typical Mr Fingers with those lush and emotional strings accompanied by a low slung house beat and exotic bird calls. Finally "Raw Mix" throws back all the groove and shuffle taken from the previous dub mix, elevating you to sheer dancefloor bliss.
Review: This is the third 'best of' from Phil Weeks' Robsoul in just five months - the label celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2020 - but the quality standard remains high. Featuring several of Weeks' own productions alongside cuts from the likes of DJ W!LD, Jordan Peak and Chris Stussy, the album covers an impressive range of house ground, from filter disco (see, for instance, Weeks/Hector Moralez/Fries & Bridges collab 'Peep Game') to chunky, eyes-down 3am throbbers (Politics Of Dancing's 'Hi Soul') to Weeks & Kid Enigma's retro, electro-tinged 'Love Me Right'. As such, it's a package that warrants investigation by househeads of many persuasions.
Review: It seems as if 15 years have just flown by since Berlin institution Watergate first opened their doors at the base of the famous Oberbaumbrucke, overlooking the River Spree and where long queues run down the street every weekend to get into one of the best clubs in the world. To celebrate their journey over the last decade and a half, they have put together a special anniversary release of 25 new, exclusive and formerly unreleased tracks. Residents of the superclub all appear, such as Hamburg native Matthias Meyer who teams up with Ryan Davis on the evocative "Hope", famed local duo Tiefschwarz deliver the slow burning and moody tech house of "Control", Sweden's La Fleur (of Power Plant fame) delivers the acidic bump and shuffle of "Femton" and former Stattbad resident and Beste Modus boss Cinthie gets deep on the classic house sound of "Hatschi Hatschi" which has a whole heap of swing to it!

Review: Phil Weeks is without a doubt one the busiest people in the business, with a relentless release schedule on Robsoul that manages consistency, unleashing grooves of the funkiest, bumpiest and loopy variety, week in week out. It's time for another volume of Robsoul's Most Wanted, Vol 6 to be exact and it's an all-star affair as per usual! Highlights for us this time around weren't limited to: label mainstay Around 7 with the funky lo-slung groove that's fittingly titled "Word Of Low", Romanian wunderkind and rising star Guy From Downstairs with the thumping yet emotive soul jam "The Mesteacan", The Bosconi affiliated Minimono on the disco loops of "Buddy Now Buddy" and man of the moment Tommy Vicari Jnr with more quality as displayed on the simply uplifting "Pasci".
