Review: Jon Linskey aka Sectra delivers Counter Culture, his debt release for Tectonic. Bringing together seemingly disparate elements such as noise, underground techno and dubstep, all of these elements provide the basis for a mesmerising four-tracker. "A Demon In My View" kick starts the release with glitchy percussion and a swung rhythm, while "Ashes" sees Linskey conjure up gloomy textures over a dead-paced groove. On the title track, he ventures down a clubby path - powered by deep kick drums, "Culture" also resounds to hissing percussion and hypnotic sound scapes, while "Bedlam" provides a further surprise in the form of an evocative downtempo arrangement.
Review: The strength of dubstep worldwide is something truly special to behold, with this latest four tracker from Sectra on the wonderful Circle Vision providing us with yet more explosive flavour. We begin with the eerie, chiming melodic structures and lethal bass waves of 'Mystic Gate', followed by 'With Fright', a journey into some unexplored realms of distortion. Next up 'Scheming Symmetry' deploys an array of punching kick slaps and horror-core style synthesizer movement, before we finish up on the super glitchy, slightly unnerving soundscaped harmonies of 'Reaching Forward'. It's weird, it's wonderful and we love it!
Review: Following on from last week's release of 'Deep', the Deep Dark & Dangerous crew continue their 'Trilogy' series with the second edition: 'Dark'. They have again assembled one heck of a line up for this one, welcoming in the sounds of Enigma Dubz, Leon Switch, Khiva and Pushloop just for starters. The project is a perfect encapsulation of the darker side of the DD&D discography, with a couple of immediate standouts being 'The Devil In Disguise', which sees JLEON and Outsider link up for an incredibly spooky harmonic thrill ride, alongside Brassic's 'Footsoldier', which deploys a regiment of lethal horn stabs to turn any rave into a ruckus!
Review: It appears that Joe Nice is at it again as he here unveils the latest Gourmet Beats selection, consisting of some wicked courses from Trisicloplox and Sectra who join forces across three bad boy originals. We kick off this one with the incredibly unique bass designs and rhythms of 'Bat Blood', a destructive collaboration sure to send any dance into a daze. Next, we take a peek at Trisicloplox's more classically structured roller 'Kage Onna', before finishing up with the well designed distortions of 'Scalped' from Sectra.
