Review: Oh Serum and Voltage, what are we going to do? As if your single output throughout 2017 wasn't enough, you've ended the year with an entire album that's chock-fuller than Santa's sack! An insane cherry on the top of a gully crumpet, this is a romper roadblock with eyes fully-fixed on the dance... The eerie sci-fi samples and early Zinc style bassline Q&A on "Snakes Alive" Seriously, there are too many highlights here, the soul-bowling club fave "Cricket Bat", the venomous pingball bassline fire of "White Widow", the list of immaculate party hurters on here is near criminal. Sleep on this and Serum and Voltage will strike you!

Review: If Serum's new label Souped Up was an actual soup what flavour would it be? A minestrone perhaps? Full of chewy textures and a wholesomeness that instantly hits the heart. How about a mulligatawny, all hot and rich? Or maybe a classic oxtail? Intense and beefy. Whatever flavour you can compare it to, like all soups, it does what it says on the tin and it's best served piping hot. Here are two more cases in point Serum and fellow roller king Voltage; the rocket-launching Charge-like chiselled riff on "Mission Control" and the slinky jungle stepper which nods at Full Cycle sound with its mild wafts of jazziness, loose drums and continuous bass mutations. Review: It's 2017 and you can finally have your cake and eat it. It's all down to Jungle Cakes head chefs Deekline and Ed Solo who have been working hard in the bass kitchen since the foundation days. Here we find them in five Michelin star mode as they serve up a banquet of creations both from their own and their peers' menus. Highlights across this incredible D&B banquet abound from the moment Craze and Infiltrata's (aka 12th Planet) classic "Things Just Ain't The Same 4 Gangstas" opens the collection and Firefox's (aka Roni Size) seminal "Keep It Raw" headbutts us a few tracks later. Elsewhere the Jungle Cakes dons treat us to skanked-out banger after skanked-out banger; Spyda's iconic vocals and the hornets nest b-line on "Soundsystem Entertainer", Tippa's harmonic heaven on "Pass Me The Dubplate" and one of the nastiest remixes Deekline's notorious "Don't Smoke" has ever experienced. Loaded with an array of cool FX and two continuous mixes, this is a true jungle feast. What a time to be alive.
