Review: Yet again, New State have delivered a top quality new garage single as we witness a heavyweight link up between Shaun Dean, Gemma Fox & Bomma B for 'Boxers'. As far as singalong UKG numbers go, there isn't much more we could ask for than this as we are firstly greeted by a bag of nostalgic bass stabs, leading into Gemma's iconic vocal tone as we hit the breakdown. It's a high energy creation, over which Bomma B then does what he does best, pulling out a rave-inspiring vocal line to put the icing on the cake. It's a track that makes us want to rave again! This release also comes complete with two edited versions, making it playable in any scenario!

Review: As one of the most sought after names in bass music, we are absolutely loving the launch of Shaun Dean Audio and the music it is already yielding. For example, this two track project from the man himself is a perfect showcase of modern bassline themes as 'Advisory' warbles into play with its high energy bass tonality and sharp drum processing below. On the flip side, we are given 'Blitz', a much more melodic exploration into bass culture, focussing on numerous areas from a constantly evolving bass synth, to the choir of distant chord progressions and super catchy vocal structures. Excellent.

Review: As a label, Yosh has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, bringing together some of the bass scenes most exciting artists on both compilations and single releases. Here they team up with the wise owls of Tengu to put together a powerhouse tracklisting, bringing in a host of new faces such as KXVU, Movement, Pavv, J69 and. R3DX, as well as bringing back some of their favourite regulars. For us the stand outs have to include Kyle Riot's emotive bass belter in 'Through My Eyes' which combines electronically processed vocal stabs with shimmering bass textures. Another highlight would have to be Mofaux's 'Soldier' composition, which combines skippy drum rhythms with a grinding LFO and more catchy vocal stabs. Excellent stuff.

Review: Paul Woolford's second album under the Special Request alias is a very different beast to its predecessor, 2013's Soul Music. While that was little less than a strobe-fired romp through Woolford's early, rave-era influences, Belief System is an altogether more complex and considered affair. With 23 tracks, the album took three years to produce, contains a number of modular hardware explorations, and features elements of tracks recorded by Woolford as far back as 1993. The sheer breadth and depth of the material is, at times, staggering, as the veteran Leeds producer giddily mixes and matches elements of electro, techno, cinematic soundtracks, hardcore, acid, jungle and experimental electronica. In a word: stunning.

Review: The Sheff City boys are back with 12 high calorie teatime treats all smothered in basslines that are thicker than chippy gravy! If Chip Shop vol 1 announced Chip Butty Recs as the new leading light of the 4x4 Garage sound, then volume 2 suggests that they plan to keep the heat on high at the fryery. Founding members deliver the on-point bangers that we have come to expect from them but it is the newcomers that bring the real sizzlers here; Rico Tibbs ascends to the skies with uplifting rave pianos on "Warning" Judge Chucky draws for the distortion on breakbeat-techno-bass hybrid "Customer Service". While Rolls Royce opts for an old school flex that we would love to see revived this summer festival season. Not a single dud spud in the batch!

Review: UKG power grooves: having elevated from fire edits on Soundcloud to a pro releases in recent years, Shaun Dean continues to flex his slick sonic skills on Dr Cryptic's ever-tasty Chip Butty. "Complete" struts with a certain amount of garage sass while remaining underpinned by a nuclear bass riff, "Top 5" is a much leaner affair with its strutting 4/4s and moaning, almost weeping bass. Elsewhere "4 Me" balances a rich vocal hook with eyes-down bass tones and distant synth stabs and "Area 51" rolls with an almost classic rave Warp 91 style feel. Covering all styles and corners, this EP is more than a clever title.
