Review: Northern banger brigade GTA are marking a big old decade in the game with this walloping collection of beats across the spectrum. Delivered in 10s over five different themes from classics to remixes to floor-scorchers, the end result is an excitingly varied and feisty 50-strong spread of drum & bass perspectives where vibes range from Conrad Subs' utterly gully jungle vibes on his remix of Sl8r's 'Facking Jungle M8' to the thundering dancefloor wallops of Cliques' remix of the label bosses 'Pico De Gallo'. No strong is left unturned throughout the collection as we're just as like to be refreshed by liquid (Pyxis & Maykor's 'Guardian Angel') as we are flattened by venomous, laser-kissed neuro blasts (ICU's remix of 'Rip The Roof Off') Crash bang wallop what an album.

Review: Manchester mandem Sola rally up the troops for their label's largest VA to date - the 'Fresh Music Annual 2022'. Emphasis on the word fresh; the tracklist reads like who's who in new-gen D&B from Shayper to Vektral to Perplex to Nvrsoft to Plasmator and many more in between. Complete with some wise and slightly older sages in the game such as AJ Mutated, Dilligent Fingers, ESKR and K Jah, the album packs a powerful punch and does an excellent job reflecting the whole spectrum of the genre from tear-up dancefloor danger ('Crank It') to cosmic ('Surgical') to emotional and funky ('A Bad Feeling') to classic late 2000s hurricane soul music ('Slow') A beautiful snapshot of a vital scene in the best health right now, big up Grand Theft Audio.

Review: 50 tracks!! Count them - FIFTY tracks - right here from the Sub-liminal Recordings crew as the label looks back over the last few years of massive bangers. Pure gully science from across the board, if you've missed out on any of their releases or you've only just tuned into the sounds of Agro's longstanding label then this is the place. Highlights come in all shapes and sizes but only a madman would miss out ridiculous heavyweight cuts likes Shayper's 'Burnt Gerbil', Prestige's wonked out weirdo funk-up 'Computer Killer', Xav's old school charmer 'Crisp Packet'. These are just three crucial examples. Dig deep!

Review: Divide and conquer! Sub-Division put the mental back into compartmentalised with this massive 40-track flexback, bringing everyone up to speed on what the label does, who it works with, what it sounds like and how hard it punches. Reading like who's who in new-gen talent, across the 40 tracks we're treated to pure thunder from an exciting range of names including Beskar, Shayper, Cray Dee, Ruckus, Oli Lewis, Zoner, Phear Phace and many more, and it sonically ranges from the sprightly tongue-in-cheek funk of Herby's 'Crud' to the BSE-levels of all out neuro mayhem on Phear Phace's 'Away'. If you're not up to speed on Sub-Division then now is most definitely the time. Oof!

Charlie B - "Rave Up" - (4:31) 174 BPM
Review: DJ Hybrid's Deep In The Jungle slams straight into 2022 with another blazing collection of past releases, all curated and packaged together with the super sick stylings of one of 2021's runaway DJ success stories - Frenetic. Renown for her crucial three-deck blends and premium energy, she's the perfect match for the label's megamix as there are so many wounders and blinders to get through. If you know the label's output you'll already know this but just in case you're new to this Deep In The Jungle malarky, expect nothing but premium modern day breakbeat badness. Highlights include RMS's purring 'Streaks & Blurs', Toby Ross's mischievous '170 Style', Charlie B's 'Rave Up' and DJ Hybrid's tongue in cheek skank-out 'The Last Bumbaclaat'. Anthemic.

Review: Next up on Sub-Division is the third edition in their new Division series of various artist compilation EPs, featuring some of the most promising producers in the drum and bass scene at present. Entropy and G-H team up for some gnarly techstep on "Feel The Lights", MSR gets the party vibe in effect on the jump-up style of "My Sound", Ominous really lives up to his name on the neurofunk attitude of "Turn Up", as do Woolf & Anapa on the twisted breakbeat science of "Let Me Home".

Review: A new one on Brighton's Sub-Division Recordings this week by Ryan Salt aka Shayper, who is certainly no stranger to the label. This one is an extended EP titled Jackin', where the Norwich-based producer throws down a seriously gnarly and off-kilter brand of drum 'n' bass. First up he collaborates with Drowzee on the vocal number "Hypnosis", then serves up the contorted and menacing beats of the title track. Elsewhere, he revisits early '90s jungle on the tough steppa "Slam Dunk", while the rolling techstep of "Apocalypse" calls to mind timeless classics on Virus Recordings.

Review: Sub-Division continues pushing the new generation of artists and sounds with this epic VA album featuring a whole load of hybrids and fusions from a barrage of exciting new talent. Highlights are left, right and centre but essential picks include Guzi's twisted flip on the stepper sound with the grizzly 'Continuum', Sinexia's savage, stripped-back 'HND' and a whole range of cuts from the fast-rising Shayper including the rifle-like war talk of 'Keep In Line' (with Amplify) Elsewhere pure futurism drips off every dark nook and crannie of Guzi & Woolf's 'Intimidate', Niterider & Warhead's 'No Way In' is a raw, unkempt slab of rolling grot and Herby's 'Next Stop' is the sonic equivalent of a swarm of hornets - and its buzzing around in your brain. This is just the tip of the 'Partitions' iceberg... Dig deep and find many more highlights yourself.

Take A Stand EP
Never Forgotten - (6:05) 174 BPM
Breathe - (4:26) 174 BPM Hot
Free - (6:13) 175 BPM
Sunsets - (4:33) 172 BPM
Review: Serial Killaz don't tend to put out music that's weak, thin or otherwise not suitable for the dancefloor. Shayper's Take a Stand EP is a testament to that, all four cuts do some serious damage and the release overall is certainly on the sharper end of the spectrum. 'Sunsets' is the best of the bunch and it's got a rough, Sofa Sound edge that injects a satisfying level of oomph into the arrangement, there's a serious vibrancy in the bass-drums relationship and it's a pleasure to listen to. 'Breathe' is a close second and its incredibly unique concoction of swirling basses and gargling pulsars adds a wicked futuristic element, all of it underpinned by a creative, stepping percussive line. There's a wicked variety here and everything feels accurate and well-placed - well played to the Serial Killaz crew.

Epicentre & Diligent Fingers - "Run Up" (Crossy remix) - (4:47) 175 BPM
Review: The second chapter in Deep in the Jungle Anthems 7 is upon us, and there is yet another cacophonous blend of fractious jungle riddims inside. Drawn from artists across the scene both old and new, this LP is the second leg of a journey that's pull you deep through the spiky, rough edges of a the jungle. The crashing force of K Jah's 'Quest' is a good example, as repetitive breaks needle their way into your soul amidst a wobbling sub and jazzy samples. Bish is on remix duties for label boss DJ Hybrid and his tune 'Badboy', which samples possibly one of dance music's most iconic film lines and does so amidst a relentless, rolling instrumental. Sick - there are over 30 tracks inside so get involved.

Review: Sub-liminal take a moment to look back over almost six years of hard graft at the future talent coal face. Having been responsible for so many bangers from so many now household names, it's a mean feat boiling it down to this mere 50 heavyweight highlights. All the label's key names are on board; Guzi, Dreadnaught, Nick The Lot, Too Greezy, Kumo, Version, Vital, Pyro, Motiv and many more dust off their past heavers, hurters and head-slappers to reflect on everything Sub-liminal has stood for and encouraged so far. From the deeper, more subtle bubblers (Sam Harris - 'Coffee Machine') to the most outrageous funk-ups (Warhead - 'Cranked') this EP has everything. When the Riddim hits you, you can't say no...

DJ Hybrid - "Run Dem" - (4:26) 174 BPM
Conrad Subs - "Rewind It!" - (3:42) 174 BPM
Review: Deep in the Jungle continue their onwards march with this, the seventh edition in their widely acclaimed Anthems series, a compilation that always finds the ideal mix of current and future talent to showcase. In the case of the former, well-travelled producers Epicentre and Kumarachi roll things out and tear them down on 'Light Em Up', which features a gnarly array of interlinked bass nodes and torn low frequency sonics, al underpinned by a percussion section that's the perfect blend of rusty and sharp. New talent emerges in the form of Trobe and Mirage, who have their first label release with '89', although you wouldn't have guessed it based off this tune's razor clean percussive edge and expert use of space, a hard thing to get right and one this pair blow out the water here. Rave samples, expansive basslines and a synth arrangement you won't be able to shake - unmissable. 34 tracks later and Deep in the Jungle have nailed every single one of them - big ups.

Various
DJ Hybrid - "Madman" (Napes remix) - (3:40) 175 BPM
Conrad Subs - "When Its Time" - (5:11) 174 BPM Hot
Shayper - "Throw Down" - (4:30) 174 BPM
Janaway - "Know Dem" - (4:27) 176 BPM
Toby Ross - "Marathon" - (5:18) 58 BPM
Review: This is the first sampler to drop ahead of the next Deep in the Jungle Anthems LP, and since we're seven deep into this series already, you'll know just how hard they tend to hit. This sampler is no exception and the team have roped in a handful of the best in the game. Napes steps up first for a remix of 'Madman' by DJ Hybrid and the result is furious expression of breaks and bass, a flurry of energy that starts on the drop and doesn't let up for a second, its old school vibe cut through with modern jump up force. Janaway's cut - 'Know Dem' - is especially sick, with stepping drums and an infectiously funky bassline that ripples with high frequency energy. Conrad Subs lives up to his name with the subby monster that is 'When Its Time', and Tony Ross keeps things minimal on 'Marathon'. Sick.

Review: Things are shaping up very nicely for Shayper right now. After a string of heaters (quite literally in the case of 'Burnt Gerbil') on Sub-liminal, he's bounced over to Sub-Division with this EP of volcanic proportions. The title track says it all; 'Bounce' is a ludicrously bumping 4x4 slap-about with a drop so sick it makes the rona seem like a mere sniffle. It's in good company; 'Can You Feel' is absolute beast of a growler laced with all manner of glitches and twists while the 1.21 gigawatt crackles and sizzles of 'Pillow Bite' are the juiciest bits of cushion business in dnb since Andy C pinched a pillow a few years back. Elsewhere 'Keep In Line' (with Amplify) is pure fast lane aggro, 'System Raised' is grizzly stepper and 'Minimal Crunk' more than lives up to it name. More 'Bounce' to the ounce.

Review: So it doesn't feel like we've had much of a summer this year. It also feels like the arts are being hung-up to dry right now. But at least the good folk at Sub-liminal care for us.... To mark the (albeit raveless) sunny season, they've put together a 50 (yes, fifty) track collection from some of the most exciting names in the game. From Dunk to Xav, RV to Warhead, Agro, Guzi, Shayper, Damage Report and so many more, this is the 'Summer Selection' we all totally need and deserve right now. Highlights include the Remarc levels of badness on Guzi's 'Area 51', the tension and staggered creepiness of Yatuza's 'Clich?' and the broadsword swathes of Motiv's buzzy bumper 'Necroplasm'. And that's just three out of 50. Thank you Sub-liminal. We need this more than ever right now.

Review: Few labels are as on-point as Sub-liminal when it comes to new talent. Home to some the sharpest new gen minds to emerge in the last few years, their Myriad collections have always been a succinct snapshot of forefront D&B. The fourth annual collection is no exception as we're treated to smash-ups and stinkers from the likes of Guzi & Dreadnaught, Yatuza, Shayper, Agro and many more. Highlights include the techno rasps of Guzi & Dreadnaught's "All Units", RV's bulldozing rattler "Tell You 1 Thing", Shayper's ghostly rave groaner "Work It Out" and Agro & RV's chest-melting finale "Impact"... And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Myriad by name, myriad madness by nature.

Review: Sub-Division have absolutely bloody killed it with this one. Featuring 5 cuts from Shayper including features from Guzi and Substance, Infiltrate is a collection of pure, gully numbers that all sit comfortably within the scene trends at the moment. All 5 of these could be talked about it in detail, but 'Nagato' stands out for the sheer audacity of its sub bass, a wobbling, pulsating wall of energy that pushes out into all corners of the range. 'Rever' is also top stuff, with a wonderfully solid percussive line and a grungy, gargling back end that'll have any head screwing their face up. Bangers!

Now a tradition for DJ Hybrid's label, this anthem collection is one of the biggest to date with names and vibes across the spectrum. Epicentre, Kumarachi, Conrad Subs, Stompz, Veak, RMS and many more all bring their fieriest artillery with highlights bursting from the seams. Every single track slaps the dance from the stripped back drumfunk and demented mentasms of Substrate's "Throwback" to the mystic sitar twangs and heavy bass bangs of Euphonique's "Moksha" via ruded up Dread bass badness of the bossman's own "Lost In The Jungle". And that's not even the tippiest tip of this anthemic jungle iceberg. Don't dilly dally.

Review: Killaz by name, killer by nature; Vital Elements and Tobie Scopes' continue to set the agenda as DJs, artists and as label owners. This third annual mix-up is certainly no exception as they plough through 59 tracks - many of which are brand new exclusives - to paint a picture of exactly where drum & bass is at right now. A thick smelly melting pot, everything is thrown into the mix: Upgrade's spine-trembling harmonics on "The Voice", ruded-out bassline badness from Voltage ("My DJ"), various jump-up hybrid creepers from Russian newcomer Ozma, brand new dark wobble lava from Serial Killaz themselves ("Rudebwoyz") the list goes on and on. This is a huge package and it comes with a superb mix too. Treat yourselves or defeat yourselves.

The Division Vol 2
Guzi - "Hold Me" - (4:34) 175 BPM
Indirekt - "Trailer" (feat BP MC) - (4:33) 172 BPM
Mosley - "We Got These Things Alone" - (5:12) 175 BPM
Shayper - "Whisper" (dub) - (4:57) 174 BPM Hot
Zoner - "The Revolution" - (4:27) 57 BPM
Review: Sub-Division are releasing the second instalment of their The Division series and it's another five tunes that all slap fairly comprehensively, with contributions from Guzi, Indirekt, Mosley and others. The spectrum gets spanned as well, with Guzi coming on with the synthy and up-beat 'Hold Me', which then leads directly into Indirekt's dark and wobbly 'Trailer' featuring BP MC, a tune that ushers in the rest of the EP in style. We especially dig Mosley's 'We Got These Things Alone', which is just a naughty bloody roller. Wicked work.

StillZ - "Dream Land" - (4:46) 174 BPM
Code Lost - "Damage" - (4:24) 174 BPM Hot
Jack The Ripper - "Music For The People" - (4:24) 175 BPM
Dreadnaught - "Massive" - (5:12) 58 BPM
Shayper - "Dirty" - (4:02) 174 BPM
Review: Virtuous is a relatively new record label who have jumped into the scene all guns blazing, having released a string of singles over the past few months. Now, they're launching their first ever VA LP and it's top quality, with sounds that span a wide variety of styles, from rolling liquid to dirty naughtiness. 'Damage' by Code Lost is definitely in the latter category and it's definitely one of the best on the release, with a cavernous bassline of spinning twirls and a pulsating epicentre that pushes out the rest of the track in a slick fashion. One to cop, this.
