Review: The Train Recordings team have done a very good job with this latest compilation collection, welcoming 25 pulsating originals to the table across a wide range of artists. The range of production talents involved is pretty outstanding, with the likes of Ceph, Jaxx, Phantom Warrior, Insize Dub, Top Dolla and many more all providing welcome additions to the tracklisting. For us, there are a couple of immediate stand outs, from the industrial sounding drum designs and breathy percussive blows of 'Time To Go' from Spektral, to the sub-busting synth sizzles of Ickleman's 'Open The Hatch' and of course, the spooky organ leads of Dub General's 'World Of Confusion' to match. A very full collection indeed.

Review: Straight outta Toulouse! Vandal Records celebrate 15 years with this serious statement: 17 tracks of some of the most forefront, innovative and exciting drum & bass from an on-point selection of trusted lifers and the most exciting new-gen names in the game. Highlights can be found on pretty much every track but you'd be mad not to check Rizzle's evocative and eerie "Ether", Was A Be & Synth Ethics' high voltage "Roughmouth", Nymfo's tense groaner "Semantics" or the twisted techno-like stab-whirlwind "Semantics". And that's just the tip of this on-point D&B iceberg. Some anniversary albums celebrate the past; this celebrates Vandal's future.

Review: It's safe to say that the Vandal LTD founders: SKS & Redeyes have certainly done themselves proud on this one as the label brings us the goliath Grand Royal LP. This selection is fantastic, incorporating everything from experimental hip hop to juke to the furthest borders drum & bass can find classification. The whole project just breathes originality, particularly on tracks such as 'Explicit' by NGHT DRPS, which is a very creative half time jungle roller. Another pair of instant favourites are Alerstorm's 'Bak' and 'Zero Caliber' from Balatron, both of which ooze electronic creativity and sound design prowess. This compilation is a phenomenal body of work from start to finish.

Review: It's vibe o'clock at Vandal HQ this season as they gracefully lay down a brand new Modern Soul collection from their nearest and dearest... And every track is a total gem. Shield provides the ultimate opener with the jaunty horn-hazed "Skippy" before a rainbow of softer, jazzier and deeper tones continue to assault our souls... Bossman Redeyes gets a breezy flip from erstwhile Headz running mate Lenzman on "What She Wants", veteran break sculpter Kabuki lets his hair down on the hip-hop jam "Home Run", Satl cosmicifies his step arrangement on the dreamy "Miss U", Monty brings some warm textured keys, Gerra & Stone add a little murk to GLXY while Arkiak cooks up some kicks that are wider and heavier than your house. And they're just some of the many highlights.

Review: Bringing people together through the power of good drum and bass isn't alien to these guys - Gun Audio run City Flow Festival back home in Antwerp, offering one of the biggest platforms for hard hitting jump-up sounds in Western Europe. Their Reload EP series has so far seen the rise of too many new artists to count and it's these massive compilations that the people want to hear. They bring City Flow together and they show off what's yet to come for the next year. Soul Intent, T>I and Supreme Being all make appearances, but it's the surprising new upstarts you want to listen out for. Expect very big things.

Review: Rebirth owner Shield teams up with seasoned producer Robytek for a return to the organic, freeform approach that Luciano's label used to embody. The title track is based on loose drums and underpins trippy organs, out there vocal samples and repetitive saxophone stabs. "Rendez-Vous" is more robust and its rhythm track features heavy tribal beats that roll to the sound of jazzy keys and wispy, half-heard vocals. The Italian duo save the best until last however; "Journey of Hope" is big on effects, with thunder crashing and muted crowd noise providing the intro and pacing the way for syncopated drums, kooky female vocals and the kind of melancholic bass licks last heard on Luciano's own Blind Behaviour album.
