Review: Planet Wax take us on another expertly curated techno trip on this latest Timeless Journey EP. The VA release kicks off with Earwax, aka breakthrough techno star Domenico Petrosino who has a refined, dubby take on modernist big room techno. Simone Tavazzi keeps the pressure up with nagging chord stabs set to stun and a juicy kick to sink your teeth into. 'Timeless Journey' itself comes from Dave Simon, who piles on warm swathes of synthesis without compromising on the impact of the rhythm section. Lenny San completes the picture with another deep n' dubbed-out workout, bringing a sense of consistency to this classy micro-collection.

Review: Simone Tavazzi has released on a slew of labels, including his own Stige and Marco Bailey's MB Electronics, and now he brings his piledriving techno to Planet Rhythm. "Observe" is led by churning chords and piledriving kicks, and has echoes of 90s releases on labels like Force Inc. The title track is more streamlined and contemporary sounding, with Tavazzi fusing a pummelling rhythm with noisy synth lines, while on "Space Research" he reverts to the chord-heavy style, with these musical elements dropping and building dramatically against the backdrop of rolling snares. "Kelp" pushes in a different direction, with a buzzsaw acid line aligned to a pumping, pulsating groove, like UR's The Seawolf mixed with DJ Hell.

Review: 2020 is a year that many people will want to forget, but as this compilation shows, it was still a time of remarkably creativity. This is borne out by Regent's "Drama", a crystalline, tranced out groove, while in stark contrast, Vinicius Honorio's "Rock Da House" is a visceral jacking affair that has echoes of DJ Rush. In between these two ends of the spectrum are deadly effective club techno contributions from Yan Cook, with the turbo bass-led "Order and Steve Parker's acid-heavy "Resonate". Best Of also impresses by covering wide range of styles - as A.Paul's rolling "Incidence" and Re:Axis bleepy "Unveil" ably demonstrate.

Review: The latest release on Coyu's label is a compilation of upcoming producers. Both "The Power of Acid" by Giovanni Carozza & Black Shade and Chipi's "RAM 303" are relentless, heads-down 303 tracks, peppered with acid lines and insistent vocal samples. Meanwhile, Peja's "Nomen Luris" is powered by a searing sub-bass that is inspired by old school hardcore. I AM BAM draws on similar sources for inspiration, but instead peppers "Hell Tell" with wild rave stabs. ElementO's "Loaded" also looks to the past, but the fusion of call and response lyrics with wild acid builds and break downs sounds like Hardfloor mixed with hip house.
