Review: We've known for a minute that Manuka is one of the real hot spots for genuinely innovative electronic flavour, with this new 'Decades' compilation EP being another great example of that mantra in action. Kicking off with the jittering vocal slices and smooth breaks of Sinic's 'RBF9', we can tell we are already in for a treat, followed closely by the mellow atmospherics and spacey textures of Doc Zee's 'Vibes' and the pure euphoria of Hypho and Megumi Hope's breaksy 'Feel You' original. We then dive into the trippy acidic zones of L=Pad & Jasehip as they unleash the blippy masterclass of '303Bot', before closing the EP off with the super unpredictable rhythms and eerie textures of Canaan's 'Energy Stream' alongside Jules. Fantastic work as per!
Review: Sinic is an up and coming producer with some serious production credentials. It's rare that a producer is so accomplished in their craft at such an early stage in their career and Flexout have been quick to pounce. Following his Black Box release, Left Turn is his latest for the imprint and it's also his best sounding music to date with 3 futuristic cuts including a VIP of Black Box highlight 'Con Sequence'. The title track is glitchy with retro injections but with a modernist edge, spiky synth lines abound and it feels a bit like a complex jigsaw puzzle being put back together in your ears. The 'Con Sequence VIP' is our highlight though, with the original's sick momentum and double-kick madness being given a brand new, filthier spin that puts it into Bredren or Perez territory. Truly incredible production and some next-level futurism vibes.
