Travel To HDF.Y3D (Remixes)
Review: SIRS - or Sounds In Real Stereo, if you prefer - is Berlin-based Daniel Klein, who's been active as a producer since 2014 and launched his own Sirsounds label in 2016. Here, Live At Robert Johnson bring us three new rubs of a cut that first saw the light of day last August, with the Larse Remix an epic, blissed-out, prog-leaning affair, the Freudenthal Remix a far struttier take with an 80s Eurodisco kinda feel and finally Residentes Balearicos, aptly enough, serving up a more chilled rub that's tailor-made for lazy afternoons lounging by Iberican poolsides.

Cosmic Memories
Various
Review: With a title like 'Cosmic Memories' your middle name doesn't need to be Sherlock to work out what's going on here, as Rare Wiri bring us a nine-track collection that pays homage to the trippy, synth-fuelled disco of early 80s Italy. Who better to kick things off, then, than cosmic disco originator Daniel Baldelli, with his and DJ Rocca's remix of Manolo's 'Amalfi Drive'? That sets the tone nicely for an album that's long on glacial synths, 80s-sounding electronic drum beats, Euro-style vox and dramatic magenta blusher... okay, you can only actually HEAR the first three of those, but you get the idea! Phoreski's 'Slow Down' stands out for yours truly, packing as it does a little more of Da Funk.

Travel To HDF.Y3D
Review: Daniel Klein's ascent under the SIRS alias continues apace, as he returns to Live at Robert with what the label has described as "a utopian (or more likely dystopian) ode to space travel". In its original form (track one), 'Travel To HDF.3YD' is a high-octane, Italo-disco-influenced slab of spiralling space disco perfection rich in clipped, Chic-style guitars, eyes-closed solos, sci-fi synths and driving, arpeggio style sequenced bass. It comes backed by a pair of tasty remixes - a darker, more psychedelic-sounding revision from Budinho and a brilliantly stripped back, Krautrock-tinged peak-time take courtesy of Panthera Krause - and two bonus cuts: a short spoken-word piece ('Intro') and the colourful Italo-disco cheeriness of 'Summer Desire'.

Balearic Memories
Various
Review: There was a time when Balearic meant "play what you want, as long as it makes people dance"; then, somewhere along the way, we fell into a bit of a rut and it came to mean "lots of achingly lovely soundscapes replete with fey, wispy female vocals, wave sounds and fluttering flamenco guitar". This collection from Rare Wiri, then - ranging as it does from Jerome La Souris' disco-fied take on MAW classic 'To Be In Love' to the proggy throb of Cuz Electric's 'Polly', and from the nu-boogie strut of Sauco's 'Get Off' to Rayko's 'Drive', which comes on like coldwave meets yacht rock - is a good chance to remind ourselves of what 'Balearic' was originally meant to be about!

Arrived EP
Review: After establishing is reputation as a nu-disco artist on the rise via a string of releases on his own Sirsounds imprint, Daniel Klein AKA SIRS has finally been snapped up by a long-established label. His first outing on German stable Live at Robert Johnson marks a new chapter in his career, though the music on offer is just as alluring as anything he's released before. Opener 'Keep Forgetting' sets the tone, with waves of kaleidoscopic synthesizer sounds and picturesque electronics rising above a chunky, mid-tempo nu-disco groove, while 'Junee' sounds like an instrumental take on the Pet Shop Boys' deeper and more loved-up moments from the late 1980s. He flips the script on closing cut 'Call Me', adding warming synth and electric piano sounds to a slipped hip-hop beat.

Future Disco: Poolside Sounds 9 (unmixed Tracks)
Future Disco / Various
Review: Future Disco invites you poolside and guides you through the long hot summer days, where the parties begin early and finish late. Taking you from lounging by the pool under the clear blue sky to sunset house, this is perfect for any laidback occasion. an essential summer soundtrack that features key artists such as: Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak who present the sensual lo-slung disco of "Don't Want This To Be Over" (Jean Tonique Remix), U.S. artists David Marston & Life On Planets who team up for the evocative deep house groove of "Contortions" feat. Hannah Noelle & Dan Izco, and Berlin-by-way-of Vancouver artist Jayda G who serves up the hypnotic Detroit vibe of "Rishikesh". Elsewhere, the ever reliable Butch delivers the main room dancefloor drama of "Lale", and Brazilian techno legend Renato Cohen makes his comeback on "Sweet Nightmare" but makes a departure from what we're used to on this funky house anthem. Also comes with a continuous DJ mix.

Balearic Headspace Vol 5
Various
Review: Midnight Riot bring us a 20-track compilation that certainly can't be faulted on the eclecticism front, with tracks ranging from the boogie nouveau of Ilija Rudman's 'Let This Dream Be Real' to Sirs' fairly self-explanatory 'Turkish Folk', and from the sumptuous soul of Jack Tyson Charles' 'Glory' to BJ Smith's acoustic psych-pop cover of Soul II Soul's 'Keep On Movin''. The southern bar room funk of HP Edits's 'Why Don't You Slide', the smokey soundtrack jazz vibes of Peter Simmons' 'Downtown' and Phoenix's 'Sueno Latino'-ish 'Nature Dance' are three more highlights of a varied and enjoyable collection.

Night Wind
Review: After taking some time out to be a Dad, Germany's Daniel Klein - a 30-year scene veteran who's played everywhere from Manumission to Tresor - returned last year as SIRS, in which guise he's been peddling some very classy contemporary funk and disco grooves. Taken from November's debut SIRS long-player 'Banana Hard & Disco Kisses', 'Night Wind' features a Lisa Shaw-esque female vocal from Hava Izmailova, and comes in four mixes: the album version and an instrumental, plus an Austin Ato Remix that sits somewhere between nu-disco and melodic house, and an altogether sleazier, squelchier Future Disco Dub.

In Between
Played by: Rayko
Review: Legendary disco diamond Rayko and his Rare Wiri label confirm some new wares from Daniel Klien, aka Sirs, an artist with old school connections to labels like Flamingo Discos and Peppermint Jam. As Sirs he surfaces with a quality EP of four sides and the record goes deep into cosmic space and classy vocoder territory with the inter-dimensional "Pookish", while New York mafiosos are referenced in the post-punk, drum rolls and heavy Italo sound of "Nosa Costra". Strands of rock and minimalism combine between the socialistic and angsty gestures of "Ja Gakaki" with the voice of a most alluring German devil hidden deep within "Der Trip".

Disco Is Life & Death EP
Review: Three sample-happy nu-disco cuts from SIRS make up the Disco Is Life & Death EP. 'DC10 Disco Dancing' lifts chunks of vocal and the train whistle from Telex's 1979 classic 'Moskow Diskow' and places them atop a Moroder-ish synth bassline, druggy slo-mo 4/4s and cascading 80s syn-drums. 'Gone With The Wind' is a far more laidback groover built for afternoon or warm-up play, but the real star here is 'The Sound Of Music', which takes the female BV's from Dayton's 1982 boogie gem of the same name and marries them to a phat funk bassline and space disco synth stabs to create a contemporary disco anthem-in-waiting.

Future Disco: Beach Life 2.0 (unmixed Tracks)
Various
Played by: 80's Child
Review: Not content with serving up regular doses of ear-pleasing nu-disco, the Future Disco crew has decided to start sound-tracking days spent lounging on the beach. Somewhat predictably, this second Beach Life selection is packed with seriously steamy, sun-kissed grooves. While this epic digital package does contain two (un-credited) DJ mixes, the real joy is the expansive - not to mention eclectic - selection of DJ-friendly, unmixed tracks. Check, for example, the sun-down, jazz-funk influenced bliss of Folamour's "L'homme Loup", the head-nodding lounge warmth of Snacks' "Daydream", the gentle Balearic nu-disco of Sirs, the lo-fi deep house haziness of DJ Boring and COEO, and the sand-in-the-shoes shuffle of Eli Escobar's delicious remix of Kraak and Smaak's "U R Freak". Throw in a swathe of tasty, laidback but floor-friendly deep house jams and you have a solid collection of serious summer jams.

What A Day
Review: Given that previous releases from the publicity-shy Sirs crew have been rather good, hopes are naturally high for their latest trip into wide-eyed, musically rich dancefloor fusion. As usual, there's a decidedly hazy, sun-kissed feel to the original version of "What a Day", which features Cinnamon Denise adding sumptuous vocals to an Afro-tinged deep house shuffler full of warm electric piano chords, live bass and Balearic instrumentation. Arguably even better is Manoo's thrillingly epic and dreamy Batacuda Remix, which not only boasts layered Brazilian drums but also some wild and wonderful synth solos. Sirs delivers an even lengthier, slightly more percussively intense tweak of the French house producer's revision, before treating us to a brilliant ambient "Reprise" crafted around swirling chords and delay-laden Fender Rhodes.

Check It Out Heritage
Played by: Rayko
Review: Little is known about Sirs, the crew behind the fast-rising Sirsounds label. This appears to be their debut EP, and it's really rather good. In its original form, "Check It Out Heritage" is a sumptuous chunk of horizontal Balearic boogie/stoned disco fusion rich in live guitars, bass, keys and synthesizers. It doesn't try too hard to be liked, but that's all part of the track's heady appeal. The accompanying remix package includes a superb interpretation from Raiders of the Lost Arp - all grandiose, head-in-the-clouds synth chords, tumbling electronics and yearning disco flourishes - plus a Max Essa style Balearic mix from Spanish producer Rayko (which, rather strangely, is also re-edited by Sirs themselves).
