Combining the pump and grind of Chicago ghetto house with the glitchy, cut-up sensibilities of modern techniques, mysterious French producer Sirus Hood stands out from the crowd. On his latest release, the title track is the most functional, with churning filters propelling a jacking, stepping rhythm. "What's Up" has more visible traces of the ghetto, with its vocal intoning 'what's up' atop siren riffs aplenty and even some witchdoctor-style whoops. Neither can prepare the listener for the suggestive 'Booty Noize' and 'Magic Stick'. The former fuses clicky percussion and surging chords with a vocal sample about 'a big booty', while the latter goes even dirtier with a primal rhythm and a man talking about how an unnamed girl 'loves the magic stick'. Nasty.
Releasing on Cajual, WOW! and Criminal Hype, plus several appearances on Dirtybird compilations (including collaborations with Sacha Robotti and house music legend Roland Clark) - France's Sirus Hood returns with his own EP. The Third Eye EP features the bass driven (obviously!) and totally bombastic "Warning" powered by a grovelling bassline, thunderous floor toms and jacked vocals. Second offering "Attention" has the main room dancefloor at peak-time in mind: with its wonky hands in the air melodies, four to the floor shuffle and one absolutely massive drop.
