Review: Philly head Snad arrives on Phonica AM for its third releases, adding the label to a list the producer has featured on including Pleasure Zone, Kimochi, Minibar, An|dromeda and Suol (to name a few). Getting trippy, deep and minimal on this EP, there's some funk and dub to be found on the title track - next to something a little more jacking in "Quark". That gets a deeper remix from slow lifer (Steve) Huerta, with something a little more classic yet micro-steppy in "Revival". Get lost.

Review: Shyam "Snad" Annad brings his brand of trippy house and techno to 2020 Vision's Luther Vine curated Fragments of Reality offshoot for the very first time. BY his own admission, the four tracks on show were partly inspired by the late nineties and early noughties output of Chez Damier and Ron Trent's Prescription Recordings imprint, though raw, sub-heavy and pleasingly percussive opener 'Bootlickerz' sounds more like a brain-melting fusion of vintage Dance Mania style ghetto-house and the fizzing madness of Paul Woolford classic 'Erotic Discourse'. 'Goobernatorial Candidacy' blurs the boundaries between electro, Chicago 'boompty' and ultra-deep house, while 'Per Savor' doffs a cap to Chez-and-Trent via ocean-deep pads, spacey bleeps and dubby bass. Finally, 'Butt Heads' is a locked-in chunk of early morning deep house hypnotism with trippy noises aplenty.

One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer Part 3
CYRK - "Italo Blade" - (6:37) 127 BPM Hot
Snad - "The Most Euphoric Moment Of My Life" - (6:43) 127 BPM
Voon - "Brando" - (6:46) 121 BPM
Lukas Lehmann - "Juno Cuts A Caper" - (6:47) 116 BPM
Review: Running Back's occasional One Swallow Doesn't Make a Summer EPs are always worth a listen, not least because there's no filler or fluff - just a string of tried-and-tested club workouts from a variety of artists. Volume three in the series begins in muscular, pumped-up fashion via some sweat-soaked Italo-disco-meets-Hi-NRG revivalism from Berlin twosome Cryk, before Snad takes over via the rubbery synth-bass, sparkling synths and jaunty breakbeat house grooves of 'The Most Euphoric Moment of My Life'. Voon's 'Brando' is a cheeky fusion of bubbly Euro-disco bass, unfussy machine beats and surging synthesizer melodies, while Lukas Lehman's 'Juno Cuts a Caper' expertly joins the dots between dreamy deep house and shimmering, life-affirming synthesizer soundscapes.

Buttery
Buttery - (6:30) 122 BPM
Review: The latest offering on Chopstick & Johnjon's label comes all the way from India. SNAD is the pseudonym for Shyam Anand, who is also the brains behind the Goa-based label Gandu. While those type of associations with dance music usually conjure up images of all-night trance parties and tie-dyed garb, "Buttery" inhabits a different universe. Granted, it is hypnotic and tripped out, but it takes its cues from 90s deep house. Sensuous pads and keys unravel over a laid back, languid groove, albeit with tight drums and percussion, while a make vocal in the background mutters away 'all right'. Available only in digital format, "Buttery" is as deep and hypnotic as modern house gets.

Home Away From House EP
Snad - "Home Away From House" - (6:52) 120 BPM Hot
Snad & Nick Stoynoff - "Cut!!!" - (5:18) 123 BPM
Snad - "Deep Looking" - (6:15) 125 BPM
Played by: Till Von Sein, Meggy
Review: Suol's latest recruit is Chicagoan Snad, a producer who last year contributed rock solid cuts to compilation style EPs on Minibar and, more impressively, Smallville. Happily, there's much to set the pulse racing here, most notably the bubbly synth bass, drum machine handclaps, swirling chords and sun-ripe melodies of lead cut "Home Away From House". Elsewhere, "Deep Looking" sees him smother another crunchy, bustling drum machine groove with oceans-deep pads and liquid electronics, while Nick Stoynoff collaboration "Cut!!!" [sic] delivers a near perfect balance between chunky, jacking fare and leisurely, head-in-the-clouds deep house fluidity.

Makybee Diva - "Untitled" - (7:38) 109 BPM Hot
Snad - "Excerptz" - (6:24) 122 BPM
L'Amour Fou - "Monkeys On My Roof" - (7:01) 123 BPM
Arnaldo - "Screaming With A Blocked Nose" - (7:13) 123 BPM
Review: In the sales notes sent to record stores, Smalleville has described this multi-artist affair as "a club night from start to finish". Certainly, the four tracks are pleasingly varied, moving from the 109 BPM bliss of Makybee Diva's untitled dream-house shuffler, to the energetic acid house/deep house fusion of "Monkeys On My Roof" by L'Amour Fou, a collaborative project whose members include the legendary David 'Move D' Moufang. Elsewhere, Arnaldo delivers a near perfect chunk of Detroit techno inspired deep house hypnotism ("Screaming With A Blocked Nose"), and Chicagoan producer Snad combines sweaty, bumpin' grooves and becalmed synthesizer motifs on the excellent "Excerptz".
