Review: Most labels and collectives are challenged to last a decade in electronic music's fleeting landscape, but so far Kompakt has endured for twice this lifespan. This is largely due to the fact that the Cologne operation boasts a tightly-knit group of artists who continue to release on its many labels. For the twentieth edition of the annual Total compilation series, many of those producers come correct; Robag Wruhme and founder Michael Mayer both deliver ponderous deep techno tracks, while Jurgen Paape goes even farther, veering into guitar-spangled melancholia on "Vox Acris". This introspective mood seeps through to more overt dance floor tracks, with Sascha Funke's eerie "Atze" and Voigt & Voigt's "Schopper Da Leu" delivering understated but impactful results.

Review: Deep house from the cerebral and heavily electronic/minimal side is the order of the day on this EP from Germany's Dial stable, which features six tracks from as many artists. Soela's '10km' is probably the most dancefloor-friendly cut on offer, Christopher Ledger's 'Omni DX' nods towards Detroit with its bleepy microsounds, Whodat's 'Obscure' is a midtempo, ambient-leaning affair, Jacques Bon & Dux's 'Fading Sail' is a twitchy minimal cut, Yone-Ko's 'A Downpour Of Blessings' is another blissed-out, post-club joint with overtones of Harold Budd and finally Carsten Jost's 'Sphairistike' has a mellifluous deep prog vibe.

Review: Soela is the artist name for Elina Shorokhova, whose work has previously featured on labels like Kompakt, Lost Palms and Detroit Underground. It's fitting that she has chosen Dial for her debut album. Like much of the output on the well-known Hamburg label, Genuine Silk is subtle, intricate and seductive. From the gentle piano lines of "Prologue" through the mournful, downbeat tones of "Inconsistency" and "Hold On" as well as the broken beats of "Lullaby", this is far more than a typical house long player. Of course, Soela is also adept at crafting slinky dance floor grooves as the irresistible "Shadows On The Wall" so effortlessly demonstrates.

Review: Dub techno progressions, digital techy beats and minimal makes a comeback on Shall Not Fade's 4 Years Of Service, with this various artist comp bringing in new names and label members alike. Biz Miz throws in a huge glowing number with a deep progressive flow in "Sun", while a bangin' combo of chords and beats rain down furthermore in KETTAMA's "Sundance". Deeper still there's the melliflow of Harrison BDP's "Interfearance", while more abstract numbers come from Harry Griffiths alongside a touch of ironical candy cane in 1-800 Girls' "My Speedos". Bring in some bleep, electro Italo from LK's "Unified Love Machine" and we're saying more like 4 Years of Class.

Review: Elina Shorokhova aka Soela is a multi-talented artist hailing from southern Russia who now calls Berlin her home. It is there where she continues to build her presence in the community through her live and DJ sets, alongside documenting the local scene and artists through her lens as a photographer. Following up an impressive run of releases on the likes of E-Beamz, Lost Palms and Australia's Red Ember, Shorokhova returns with four evocative tracks on the ever reliable Kompakt imprint. From the sensual breakbeat driven progressive house vibe of "Lily", soothing and sensual deep house for the late night on "Close Your Eyes" and the slinky and hypnotic tech hose of "White Becomes Black" - we have only seen the start of Shorokhova's blossoming and promising career.

Review: Some two years after founding their fast-rising Of Paradise Recordings label, founders Paul Patterson and Lauren Chalmers have decided it's time for a tidy compilation of fresh material from label artists old and new. The first portion of the collection focuses on wonderfully deep, woozy and occasionally Motor City influenced house haziness (see the sublime cuts from Soela, Polejam and Deejay Bloom), before Stratton drags us kicking and screaming towards peaktime floors via the Head High style piano anthem that is "The Keys". Dwell steals the show with the TB-303 acid-powered techno-jack of "Turn Up The Heat", Martin takes us to a sweaty turn-of-the-'90s rave via "Smart Casual" and DJ Moonbeam channels the spirits of early Goa trance on throbbing workout "Apogee".
