Review: If your tastes lean towards that part of the musical spectrum where deep house blurs into nu-jazz and broken beat then you'll find much to enjoy on this four-tracker from Italian producer and Cognitiva Records boss SofaTalk (with a little help from Veezo). 'Strut' opens proceedings on a deep, jazzy house tip, whereas 'Little One' is a far more freeform and experimental affair. 'Chances' then introduces hints of 80s jazz-funk flava before finally we come to 'Million Toes' itself, a more laidback and introspective piece that'll appeal to those who dig the likes of Thundercat, Opolopo, etc.

Review: The fifth instalment of Nomada's 'White' series is something of an expansive affair, whose six sparkling cuts are a mixture of solo tracks and collaborations from Sofatalk and Last Nubian. The former handles the first half of the EP, springing between sunny broken beat (the soulful 'Five Folds'), early Floating points-esque deep house jazziness (the superb 'Hot Jupiters') and Kaidi Tatham-esque jazz-funk/bruk fusion ('Kleper's Law'). Last Nubian first joins forces with Dougan for the driving deep house haziness of 'Last Boogie', before showcasing two solo productions: the more expansive and musically intricate excellence of 'You're a Shepherd' and the ultra-deep, analogue rich dreaminess of 'Brown Me a Caller'. Superbly summery fare.

Review: Those who buy physical releases may already have come across this debut missive from Russuan kabek Deeppa. The compilation style EP - the first of a series under the Perfect Duality title - dropped on wax back in November 2020 and here appears on digital download for the very first time. Scruscru delivers a superb EP opener in the shape of 'Mellow Yellow', a drowsy and gently breezy mid-tempo number rich in fluttering flutes and other organic instrumentation, before Jehan opts for mazy electric piano licks and chunky beats on 'Once Again'. Elsewhere, Hotmood's 'Reach Out & Touch' is a deep disco-house treat, SofaTalk's 'Love in Slo Mo' is a sparkling slab of horizontal jazz-funk and Replika's 'Rings of Saturn' is a spacey, warm and rolling deep house box jam.

Review: The Broken District label has so far proved adept at offering-up warm, groovy and sun-kissed cuts that tend towards the Balearic end of the spectrum. They're at it again on "Brokenbits Volume 1", whose opening salvo - "Bubbels" by Duktus - sounds like Dam Funk after an afternoon kissing and cuddling in the Ibizan sun. Jeppe Woolmer injects a little early evening energy via the dusty, woozy and quietly jazzy deep house shuffle of "Infinitives", before Jus Jam invites us to "Escape From The Hood" via a slow-burn chunk of deep broken beat/Balearic house fusion. To round things off, SofaTalk offers up the warm deep house/jazz-funk fusion of ear-catching closing cut "A Sparkling Day".

Review: The Ambassador's Reception label has subtly shifted focus in recent times, moving away from obscure disco edits towards original production. This expansive set from Italian producer Sofa Talk falls into the latter category, combining notably luscious, eyes-closed deep house cuts (see "Floating Thoughts" and "Halo Strings"), with the odd dash of P-funk influenced broken beat (the standout "Away From The Point"), and a couple of notable remixes. In the latter category, Chris Massey drops a trippy, psychedelic acid remake of "Floating Thoughts", whilst Golf Channel regulars The Central Executives add some live percussion and freestyle jazz horns to "Halo Strings", giving it a wayward Afro-disco-meets-deep-house feel.
