Review: Oof! Soul Intent always keeps us on our toes and these two beasties are definitely no exception. 'Monster Inc' takes us right back to the early 2000s style of dancefloor dnb. Big beefy bass riffs, beats chunkier than the national debt and nothing but fun time feels. Think G Dub, D*Minds, Hazard, Clipz and Twisted and you're on the right dancefloor. 'Damage Four' continues that vibe but with more of a bass-focused twist. Slinky, sleazy and full of surprises, this wouldn't have gone amiss on Bingo Beats at its mid-2000s prime. Go on Soul Intent!

Review: Almost two decades deep into their legacy, DJ Trace's DSCi4 imprint continues to push science right on the razor's edge. The Spy Technologies compilations have always been something of a flagship release for the label and this pandemic special is no exception. Across 14 tracks we're treated to a future shock of dynamic proportions courtesy of a great range of talents from established to brand new and anonymous. Highlights include the springy, tense 'Microbs' from HLZ, the pneumatic drums and high impact wallops of Soul Intent's 'Foundation', Dynamix's relentless, industrial strength 'Murderation' and the epic finale track from the man DJ Trace himself and Emery - 'Curfew'. Lights out.

Review: Some fierce drum 'n' bass from the darkside that deconstructs and reconstructs jungle era breakbeat science on the Give Me A Dub EP by Nottingham's (now London based) Soul Intent on Tempo. Appearing for a change outside of his usual home, Lossless Records, he throws down three killer tracks here. First up the title track smashes through the audio spectrum like a battering ram with the kind of drums that even Dillinja would stand up and notice. "The Dread" is more minimal and stripped; the kind of stuff that DJ Krust was throwing down back in the day. Finally "Heaven" is definitely the most highly engineered offering; a futurist techstep journey with an emotive atmosphere and liquid breaks.

Review: Bringing people together through the power of good drum and bass isn't alien to these guys - Gun Audio run City Flow Festival back home in Antwerp, offering one of the biggest platforms for hard hitting jump-up sounds in Western Europe. Their Reload EP series has so far seen the rise of too many new artists to count and it's these massive compilations that the people want to hear. They bring City Flow together and they show off what's yet to come for the next year. Soul Intent, T>I and Supreme Being all make appearances, but it's the surprising new upstarts you want to listen out for. Expect very big things.

Review: Lossless boss Soul Intent hops over to the ever-reliable Celsius imprint for two breath-taking rollers. "Come With Me" is a breezy, skippy affair with an entrancing arpeggio that teases with a trance vibe before dropping into a classic mid 90s bass and drum workout. Fans of Utah Jazz or anything on Full Cycle during the early days will be all over this. "Falling" is a touch deeper. Delicately coated in a mournful vocal that echoes in and out of the mix, there's a lot more texture to the drums and a whole cannon of pads waiting to whisk you off to another dancefloor altogether. Beautiful.
