Review: Ghetto Dub Recordings have a long history of putting out music that takes no prisoners on the dancefloor and, whilst we're still clubless, this superb breaks-focused various artists compilation is sure to get your gun fingers raised at home. 'Feel' is the most interesting of the bunch, with an almost grime like approach to its steppy percussion and structured drum claps that reminds us of Diemantle. 'Nastya' is the other highlight, with a piercingly choppy arrangement that sees jabbing stabs tumble over on another in their haste to mess you around, all tied together with a massive reece bass. Oh yes.

Review: A long time ago, in a land far, far away, Deep in the Jungle unleashed interplanetary destruction on a galactic scale. Not really, but they are channelling the force with this compilation, which ropes in some of the galaxy's fiercest producers to craft old-school riddims with a futuristic touch. Conrad Subs lands all phasers blasting with a bunch of different cuts, and his collaboration 'Rock On' with DJ Hybrid is an absolute percy, a sub-heavy wobbler that oozes funk through brass stabs and a rhythmic, catchy approach. Redline flips a light, fluttery intro into bassline-led low frequency devastation, whilst Kartoon gets old school with his remix 'Lions of Judah' by Sharpz. Unreal stuff.

Review: Format are a fantastic little label that have really burst out the stocks over the last couple of years, releasing a plethora of music with the common thread of rudeness and an inability to stand still. Ikon-B and Kumarachi are jumping on this heritage with vigour this week, and this two-tracker has a jumpy attitude that we're incredibly sad won't be heard on a dancefloor anytime soon. The VIP of 'Decode' is an absolute percy, as a rolling drum pattern takes you in to a funky, flowing arrangement with serious bite. The remix from Sound Shifter is packed out in the lows, straining against itself the whole way, whilst a lovely set of synths creep out over the top. This one pops.

Review: It appears that the Ghetto Dub Recordings team has assembled one hell of a roster for this one as they unleash the fully unmixed version of the Dubz: ReRubbed album project, allowing us to enjoy each and every tune in its full majesty. We find the perfect balance of high intensity dancefloor danger and more stripped back rollers throughout the compilation, from the Phibes remix of Wrecked from Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion giving us a gritty, synth lead smackdown to the much more junglist inspired recreation of Java's 'Screwface' from Aries. There are a few standouts throughout this eclectic selection, including Epicentre's monstrous sub-driven rework of 'We Up There' from Bill & Ed, alongside Veak's neurotic overhaul of Subcriminal's 'Mack 10' and the system rattling recreation of Flat T's 'Proceedings Closed' from Durban. What a selection this is!

Review: Deep In The Jungle Records is a UK jungle imprint that have been making bigger and bigger waves over the past several years, a big part of which is their affinity for fat compilations that straddle numerous sub-genre boundaries and which represent lots of different artists. This next one is about classics and it features artists like Conrad Subs, Kumarachi, DJ Hybrid, Kartoon and more. Conrad Subs is a favourite of ours and his cut, Takeover, is a wicked, deep rolling piece of work that packs a sick bassline, one which makes you think of late-night raving at its finest. This is a top compilation from a star label of the new wave.

Review: Deep in the Jungle know how to do jungle. The clue is in the name, really, and they're proving it again with this huge compilation of 40 huge jungle anthems from some of the best rising stars of the breaksy side of the scene. RMS, SL8R and DJ Hybrid all make an appearance, as do Kumarachi, Veak, Schematic and Epicentre. This is a very strong roster and its reflected in the tunes, with Schematic and RMS teaming up on 'Take It' to combine roughshod, vibrant breaks and moody atmospherics in glorious fashion. Check this one.

Review: It's WAR: Deep In The Jungle charge forth with another battle set that features some of the label's heaviest prize fighters. Shells across the spectrum: duck and cover as Epicentre's supersized warped bass jungle slapper "BIG" comes flying upside your noggin, Veak's awesome samplecraft on "Heavy Load" sends you into a hazy spin and the total drum hurricane on Sound Shifter's "Urban Style Formation" knocks every puff of wind out of you. Elsewhere Soul Defiance's "Pariah" coats you in sticky napalm bass before drying you off with soul-stirring pads, Crinnion traps you with a drone sub pincer movement and Sikka provides the final blow with some of the eeriest bass textures ever heard on DITJ by way of his Kumarachi remix. These are the dubs you are looking for.

First up Section takes RMS & Close's "Extracts" from last year and builds it up with layers of percussion and a whole level of roaring toxic mid 2000s style bass. Review: Back to the roots. Format firesmith Ikon-B re-ups his label with two sides of purist jungle heat from himself, Sound Shifter and the mysterious Lion-UK. "Sweet Dubplate" is every bit as succulent and savage as its name suggest with big drops in the drum dynamic, sweeping sense of momentum and that all-essential vision blurring feeling. Lion-UK's "Hold It Down" provides more of a sensual jungle rub thanks to some sweet dancehall vocals, atmospheric pads but still rolling with a white-knuckle jungle drum set. Important.

Review: Fresh from his recent excursions on Ghetto Dub & Deep In The Jungle; Barcelona badman Sound Shifter embarks on another mystic journey of bass and drum , this time on Papa Gee's high risk imprint Hazardous Musik. DJ Hybrid is on the remix for opening track "Danger & Culture" and it is a real plot twist as soulful Calibre style piano chords burst into rib rattling kicks and spine tingling jungle drum fills. Next up it is the VIP of title track "Stronger than me" Hazy lounge piano and vocals on the intro breaks into a serious shuffle as Sound Shifter makes use of the famous Sugar Hill Gang that was immortalized in jungle folklore by Shy FX on Bambaata. "Take Me Higher" is our pick of the bunch as the euphoric old school vocals blend with a sustained surging bassline to make an addictive liquid stepper. The whole release is peppered with sirens and samples that now, with over 20 years of jungle music, you might expect to sound played-out or cliched... No chance! They still sound so good, raising the energy levels to fever pitch. 3 tracks with 3 very distinct flavours that all work wonderfully.

Review: What a rush! Sound Shifter takes time to remind us why some of the most exciting fusions in electronic music are still best heard within a traditional jungle drum & bass context. From the absolute mania and insanity of "Rollerz Paradise VIP" to the ragga-ravaged "Bad Man War" by way of the drum wizardry of both "Scatter" and "Paradisum", each of these tracks seriously are the real deal. Review: Seriously large compilation to dip into here with the ragga vocals of Blade Runner's remix to Marvellous Cain a bomb to start with. Scale yourself further down the 60 selection and you'll find several cuts from Mexican crewman Isaac Maya to raving tear outs from Soulculture. Tim Ryan All Stars serves up something easier on the ears for those red stripe afternoons in the sun, while for something a little more soulful and liquid - perfect for the peak time - check out Sound Shifter's "Loving You Forever". Old school Hospital Records vibes. We said it once and we'll say it again, seriously big.
