Review: Although best-known for delivering colourful nu-disco and tasty re-edits, South Beach Recycling has long been a fan of deep, dusty and chunky house music. He first gave us a taste of his interpretation of this style earlier this year via a contribution to a split EP on BRS Music. Here he's gone further, delivering a whole album's worth of crackly, roughly hewn house jams for Atjazz's popular label. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the ultra-deep broken house wooziness of 'CDogs Wish', sample-heavy loop-jam 'Open Up Your Heart' and deep space hypnotism of 'One Synth Wonder', to the fittingly Atjazz-esque 'Total No. Recall' and the breathtakingly beautiful, jazz-flecked sci-fi deep house of 'SX Inspiration'.

Review: The world's most famous Irish-Iranian DJ/producer serves up a fourth collection of disco and boogie re-edits on his own Re-Loved label. The album features 19 full-length tracks plus two hour-long mixed versions from Haji himself, and the artist roster reads like a Who's Who of the re-edit scene, featuring as it does names like Dr Packer, Chewy Rubs, Birdee and Chuggin' Edits. What's most pleasing, though, is the non-obvious nature of the tracklist: sure, Ian Ossia's opener 'Someone To Count' borrows from Dennis Edwards but that's about as far as we got with trying to identity source material before shrugging our shoulders and just sitting back to enjoy...

Review: A four-track V/A offering here from Seamus Haji's re-edit label Re-Loved. Ruff Diamond gets the ball rolling with the low-slung west coast funker 'Drop N Shake', which comes complete with rap vocal snips and some Zapp-esque talkbox action, before Probably Shouldn't take us into uptempo disco territory with 'Don't You'. The source of those first two is unknown, but we're on more familiar territory with South Beach Recycling's 'Good Love In', an authentically 70s-sounding soul/funk cut based on MFSB's 'Plenty Good Lovin', while Dennis Edwards classic 'Don't Look Any Further' gets a soulful house-inspired makeover courtesy of Ian Ossia.

Review: On previous outings, South Beach Recycling has largely stuck to variations on a party-starting re-edit theme. This time round, the sometime Midnight Riot producer has moved further towards outright original productions, delivering a quartet of house cuts rich in sinewy samples and choice lifts from disco, soul and funk records. It's a formula that delivers largely impressive results. We're particularly enjoying the peak-time stomp of opener "Qualified" - think filter-heavy disco-house with chopped-up '80s soul samples - and the jazzy bump of "Suite & Sour", where impeccable electric piano solos ride a thunderous rhythm track. That said, we're sure many people will enjoy the seductive shuffle and sun-kissed, glassy-eyed vocal samples of Adriatic-inspired cut "Tisno" - we certainly did.

Review: Seemingly inspired by the pathetic pitches of fictional Norfolk broadcaster Alan Gordon Partridge, South Beach Recycling treats us to their take on the great man's Inner City Sumo concept. We're not quite sure what Alan would make of the three tracks on show, but plenty of people are likely to be mightily impressed. Check, in particular, "Feladup", a jaunty and hard-hitting interpretation of a slamming Fela Kuti classic, and the stunning, orchestral disco wig-out that is 11-minute epic "Whistle Bump". This epic edit contains all manner of saucy solos as well as sultry strings, cheeky cut-ups and one hell of a floor-friendly groove.

Review: It's time for some pre-Xmas edits with South Beach Recycling, and this lot are up on Alpaca Edits for the first time - that can only mean vibes and vibes, from start to finish! In fact, "Heaven" loops its majestic disco riff over a phat, chunky beat that will cause absurd levels of hysteria on the dancefloor. "Intrusion" is a similarly freaky disco affair, this time coming through with horns and Rhodes keys sounding more seductive that anything we've heard this week, plus, you get the jazzy, sax-led magic of "The Floor" as an added DJ weapon that will undoubtedly appeal to all the boys and girls. Hot and unstoppable!

Review: As you might extrapolate from the title, Riot In Lagos is Midnight Riot's tribute to the endearing influence of African dance music. In typical style, this is achieved through a blend of contemporary productions, sample-heavy cuts and edits of original African material. The standard is impressively high throughout, with little in the way of fluff or filler. Highlights include, but are not limited to, the inspired deep house/Afro-disco fusion of Mena & Melgado's "African Food", the rich deep house bump of Yam Who's "How We Do", the dense percussion and glistening guitars of Drop Out Orcherstra's Candido tribute, "Jin Go La", and the pitched-down, Fela-in-dub chug of Hober Mallow's "Egbe Mi O". Oh, and Jonny Walters' hypnotic Afro-boogie shuffler "Jam Bo Ree".

Review: We all need our own personal headspace from time to time, however the Yam Who? duo behind Midnight Riot have gone one step further and given Balearic Headspace. Volume 'Uno' contains 18 slinky white isle gems to groove to. Highlights include the slow Euro-beat grind of opener "Bestinspace" by Emmanuelle Kant, Massimo Vanoni's "For Your Love (Cosmic Inspiration mix)" features uber cool raw electronic arpeggiation, swirly Moon Safari acoustic vibes on "Come Outside (Sweet Love)" by Laurels & Hardlies and the stompin' beats and slappin' bass of "Love Echo" by Camino.

Review: If you weren't aware already, Yam Who? is one ambitious, tirelessly active chap. First emerging at the turn of the century with some superb edits of poppy R n'b (anyone remember his boogie take on "Frontin" by Pharrell?) the Yam master has gone on to build quite the empire with his Midnight Riot label. The latest MR release reflects his nature, a new mix featuring 20 killer rollerskate jams from friends as well as some outright classics. Highlights include the glistening, chrome-plated funk of George Kelly's "Turn It Up", the sleek and synthy 80s jam "Living A Lie" by Freekwency and the slammin Linn drum freestyle action of "On The Upside (High Drummer edit)" by Wonkar.

Review: Since first appearing on Midnight Riot earlier this year, scalpel-wielding re-edit duo South Beach Recycling has closely guarded their identities. Whoever they are, they have a knack for turning dusty disco jams - either well-known, or more obscure - into dancefloor gold, usually via a few well-placed filters, good chops, judicious use of loops and expert re-arrangements. This second EP is arguably stronger than their debut, containing as it does the string drenched, anthem-like swoops and builds of "Independent", the Latin-tinged, electric piano heavy summer madness of "Still Know U", and the on-point Afro-disco business of "Sanisha". Best of all, though, is "Satisfaction Action", a ten-minute trip into high-tempo disco-funk-meets-boogie territory.

Review: There's a reason that Midnight Riot's eponymous compilations frequently charge to the top of the Juno Download charts. Put simply, they never disappoint. This ninth installment sticks to the now tried-and-tested formula - house-friendly re-edits and originals from across the disco, boogie, soul and funk spectrum - but predictably hits the spot throughout. As usual, there's a bonus mix - this time put together by globe-trotting scalpel jockey Rayko - and tracks come from both label regulars ('80s Child, Ziggy Phunk, Chewy Funk) and an impressive array of new or unheralded talents. It's in the latter category that you'll find some of the most impressive fare - see Phil Jaimes deliciously Balearic "Nowhere To Hide" and Cosmocomics' kaleidoscopic synth-funk jam "Mary Jane" - though the standard remains pleasingly high throughout.
