Review: All say 'wow', it's time for some Spaow! Feeling extra trippy this time, the twisted jump-up craftsman gets his murk on with the wavey, flabby-cheeky 'Wisky Kung Fu' before 'Onobus' gets every single pot and pan in every single kitchen in your street and throws it at you with nothing but love. Get even jiggier into the EP and you'll get slapped by the tarmac-thick bass of 'More Muscle' before 'Terminally Online' takes everything you hold dear and shreds it in your face. And what's more, you'll say thank you in return. Absolutely potty behaviour; this is one Spaow's most out-there slabs to date.

Review: To celebrate the marking of their 100th official release, the New York-based masters of Digital Terror make their return with a system-slamming compilation box, exploring the full spectrum of new school drums. The project features 16 outstanding originals, ranging from the limb-twitching synth punches of 'Make Sure' from Stompz and lethal reese work of Sano's 'Blow Up', through to the metallic shreds of Spaow's 'Warning' VIP mix and Taxman's gut-busting return on 'So Good'. The team have assembled a collection of heavyweights for this latest outing, with the grinding bass curls of 'Heavy & Bad' from Harley D & the euphoria-inducing delights of Jayline & General D's 'Keep Moving' being our immediate standouts. Review: Wrapping up a serious year of heat, Hype's Playaz look back over their many releases of 2021 and brings them altogether in one place for those who missed out on the label's many big bruisers, bumpers and thumpers. Ranging from Xtrah's trippy, leftfield 'Droplets' to straight-up face-melters like Spaow's 'Amd Planet' with a whole range of fire in between from some of the label's (and the scene's) biggest and most respected names like Taxman, Voltage, Limited, Dunk and of course the mighty DJ Hazard, it's a pretty forthright reminder of just how much clout and musical muscle the longstanding label has - even when half the year was spent with the clubs and raves closed. Playaz ain't playing around!

Review: Gr8 scott! High R8 are celebrating 10 years of being at the forefront of dnb, grafting at the future talent coalface and we're in for a treat of a trip down memory lane. Featuring early cuts from modern day donnies like Guv, Spaow and K Motionz, the collection takes us back to 2011 then pings us around the last decade by way of crucial cuts from the likes of Damage Report, Dub Bezerker, Nu Elementz, Sub Killaz and beyond. Highlights include the still-raw 'Blood' from Guv, the stripped-back vibe and grungey bass slaps of Diskize's 'Rain' and the haunted cries and sense of tension in Filthy Habits' 'Hidden Secrets' but to be honest the whole collection slaps and really highlights how consistent and ruthlessly gully High R8 have been since they began.

Review: Supersized vibes galore over here as Spaow returns to High R8 with four more scud missile anthems. It's business from the off as he hurls into a pit of molten Original Sin on the EP title track 'Bigger Than You Think'. The heat is just as intense throughout the whole EP. 'Dumb' goes in on the twisted sound designs and textures, 'The Three Walker' is pure laser blazing carnage while 'Alegenza' celebrates those old school Bristol jump up vibes from 20 years ago. Big up!

Review: Digital Terror have had a sick last twelve months and this VA shows off some of their best cuts from the year, featuring acts like Jayline, Dutta, SL8r and more. Those latter two collab in serious style on 'The Pain', which cuts down into the range with fire and fury, angled sharp basses knifing through the frequencies with the grace and decorum of an elephant in heat. Jack The Ripper lands with supreme heaviness on 'Direction Course', Spaow brings the old-school vibes on 'Gallopo' and the collaboration of the album comes from the dream team of Jayline, Bou, Dutta and MC Dino who land with aplomb on 'Pico Skank'. Seminal.

Review: Spaow is back doing his always rough and ready thing and this time it's over on the mighty Liondub International, a label for whom the lack of raves has meant anything but a decline in heavy music. Spaow's ability to murk up the dance has never been in question and Jungle 3000 is another verification of his dancefloor credentials, especially the title tune, which flips from a multitonal, driving bassline into chopped up stabs and murderous breaks. 'Dog Mouth' flies the flag of old school, punchy jump-up, whilst '1997 Street Art' steps with the beat of the streets and 'Sun Yourself' is just bloody good fun. Well played.

Review: Tear out season has arrived and it's Spaow on the front line, a producer garnering a name for his devastating basslines. Turning Japan's capital on its head with "Tokyo Lofo", a wildly loose mash up of warped industrial basslines and jungle extractions make it through interludes of traditional asian instrumentation held together by an snippets of a liquid rhythm. "Geko" of the digi-flip rains down some neon spook in its melody before falling prey to huge halftime beats, stutter effects and tripped-out percussion. Parents be advised Adult Themes.

Review: Spaow has channelled the chaotic energy of the monkey for this EP, a musical dexterity which has permitted him to create this absolute fire of a single. 'Monky Style' rolls out above a set of heavyweight drums and crashing hi-hats, which underpin a complex, chaotic yet precise mash of intertwined bass synths and old-school sampling. 'Avast' opens with a heavy arrangement that's matched in its upbeat drum lines, a serene moment of construction in what quickly turns into a very rough sea full of choppy basses and dirty sonics. Review: Down 2 Earth Muzik are without a doubt one of the strongest jump up labels around at the moment and their output is so damn consistent, with almost a new release every week. This week it's the turn of Spaow, a regular on the label, and, this release is a four-tracker chracterised by its sheer veracity. With crisp drums and a tumbling percussive line, 'Sniff The Bass' rolls out in style, hitting punches and stealing packed lunches left right and centre, with a really original, complex approach to make interlinked basses. Gino, Skibadee and Heist features on trracks two, three and four and it's the last of these we love most - 'Plastic Kebab'. Proper tune this - no messing around, but then again what would you expect from these two?

Review: Ooof! Imagine a swarm of hornets got in your DAW and gave you tracks some mad type of deathly sting? That's what's going on in Spaow's computer right now. And we hope he's feeding them and looking after them well because we never want them to leave. Coming on strong like some 23rd century Yung Clipz, everything about "Zebra City" buzzes, stings and weirds you out in the best way possible. And that's just the first of four tunes! Elsewhere we have the high frequency disco freak out "The Beauty And The Spaow", the insanely trippy melting bass of "Desuro Study" and the woozy swagger and glitches of "Stay". Immense. This is without doubt Spaow's most far out release to date. Which is saying something.

Review: Having hurled the inaugural part of his "Bouhda Finga" series upside our playlists late last year, and taking a cheeky shroom trip in between, Spaow returns with another digit chucking doublet. Both perhaps a little funkier than you'd expect from the man with the usually angular and very brittle sonic signature, "Romandino" flips between shades like an early Clipz joint while "Brain Glitch" is a kitchen sink affair where you can tangibly feel Spaow throwing everything into the mix. Review: Down 2 Earth Musik is Macky Gee's label and for the end of the year he's coming at you with a fat compilation of tunes that fit in with the sound he's pioneered this year and the last. Not many artists have been as break out a success as Macky this year and it shows on this release, things kicking off with the fiery VIP of 'Calm Before The Storm', an appriopriate title for the first tune of an album that goes on to include tracks like Rawtee's 'Alligator' and Matzet's 'Roller Coaster'. Arguably the highlight comes from Macky himself though when he's joined by MC Skibadee on Bangers N Mash, a proper skank out with one of the most legendary MCs in the game.

Review: The eternally prolific Spaow has this time around put a psychedelic twist on everyone's favourite Italian plumber, Mario's usual cheerful chirpiness replaced by a jump-up orientated run around the wild side of the scene. The title track is exactly that, juddering rolls of bass synths laid underneath a glossy exterior of Nintendo-esque samples and video game quips. 'Nasus' takes things a lot steppier drum wise, whilst ramping up the insanity with a screeching dive of synth weaponry; 'Squirtle Squirt' reminds of the cute little turtle, this time around morphed into something very different; 'Azertox' slams on the finish. Go on Spaow, GO ON.

Review: This album's artwork features a burning first punching a bear in the face. Yeah, a burning fist punching a bear in the face. Honestly, we can't think of a better metaphor for what is a fiery, forceful jump-up release from a man who has just been PUMPING out the tunes this year. The title track is rough and ready, picture an Upgrade tune that's just been on a heavy night out, has lost its wallet and doesn't know how to get home - it's moody, basically. 'XTC Pacman' is more of an old-school Sub Zero stomper, glitched out metallic synths knocking about in a furious mash of force and style. The heaviest might be 'All Drink On Me' though, it's distorted melodies inching out over a fluctuation of various back end wobbles and futuristic mid-range tumbles. Sick ep.

Review: Last spotted chinwagging on his Nokia to Skibadee, Spaow returns with four more stark slammers. "Music Makes Me" sets the scene with equal levels of charm and grit while the Noisia-supported "Gravity" takes some broad brass textures and turns them into your nightmares. Elsewhere "Skydro" takes a ravey-pitched vocals, an army of drums and a zoo of Clipz-style bass harmonics and melts into into a riotous bundle while "Mother Fucking Bass" fuses swearing, classic jungle breaks and tripped out Belgian lasers in style. Need more you greedy people? Chow down on his insane remix of Rawtee's "Shadow Lion" and think long and hard about your actions.

Review: Spaow gets busy on High R8 once again and it's nothing but pure Belgian badness. With its militant snares, "Rasta Warrior" is less of a soldier and more of entire troop of metallic bulletproof rastas marching into the fearful unknown. "Dorador" takes a techier track with its samurai bass swathing down over the triplet-based power drums, "Jumbot Machine" has a nuclear laser bass with a half life of a million while "Enjoy Yourself" teases with a hazy sexy swoon before hurling us into android lions. Bare knuckle business.

Review: Having collided before on Heist's own Calypso Muzak with "Kuma Bear", Heist and Spaow lock horns once again, this time on Phantom Dub Digital. Taking a side each, both artists go all-in with two balls-out party damagers. Heist's "Detected" is straight out of the mid 2000s when he really made his mark on the game with a bass sound so twisted not even Clipz could touch him. Spaow's "Want To Know" acts all mean and gruff with myriad bass textures but suddenly shows a much more sensitive, soulful side with the swooning keys on the mid-section. Two premium slabs of bassweight right here if you can handle them?

Review: Two things of the strongest things that can pull you back down to earth: Gravity or a selection curated Macky Gee. This is both; "Gravity" is Macky's label's first various artist collection and it really is a K.O of a leveller. Spaow gets spiky on the riff and 2001 Space Odyssey on the synths, Rowney & Propz remind us that life can be both screwface and bouncy, Modified Motion & Faction get a little playful with the rave breakbeats and Complex whips up the hardest clanking sounds heard this side of your local steel foundry. Dextone closes the show the string-fired drama that is "Riot". Serious D&B right here, bring on the second volume!

Review: Belgian behemoth Spaow makes his Calypso debut with a brutal six-piece that won't just shake the life out of you but will resuscitate you just to duff you up again. The message is clear from "Manneken Pis" as the dusty funk sample degrades into a turbine bass licks that can genuinely knock a dancefloor off its feet. "No Music" is a chance for Spaow to show off his squiggles and sound design collection while "Good Old Things" warps the dickens out of an old jazz sample before dipping low into a wonky distorted bass lick. Elsewhere we blaze the bass lasers on "Kuma Bear", we hit more sample-twisting gold on "Nonchalance" before ending with the lullaby/nightmare counterplay on "Reverse Life". Spaow's biggest release to date, without question.
