Second time around for Lotek's "Rebel Hifi", a festival-friendly soundsystem cut with an excellent vocal from soulful toaster Spikey Tee. This time, it comes packaged with a slew of new mixes that take the track further towards contemporary bass music dancefloors. Lotek's own remix pushes up the tempo and toughens up the beats, adding a couple of bass wobbles for good measure. The stand-out mix, though, comes from Warrior One, whose Trancehall Refix is a full-throttle fusion of pummelling rave bass, high-speed military drums and weird, trance-like synth noises. Elsewhere, look out for the dubwise Rebel Dub and a bouncing, old skool jungle rework from Andy H.
South London rapper Roots Manuva brings "Here We Go Again" (feat. Spikey Tee) to the table and gets some top-notch remix treatment from Dobie, FaltyDL and Preditah. The original is all rhythmic lyrical dexterity, snapping beats and a tremulous, whomping b-line, whilst Dobie's Moshpit remix is all drum rolling, DJ Shadow reminiscent goodness, whilst FaltyDL adds some anxious atmospherics and chops up the rhythms into a sultry, stepping number. Preditah adds a quirky, high pitched synth riff and eerie element and then there's Dobie's Playground Moves remix, which takes it back to the roots with a more straight forward hip-hop vibe.
