Review: Over on Nuclear Bass, Spiller is banging out the badness with a brand new EP that heat on all the cuts. It's a typically moody release from the label and the producer, who have a track record of this kind of thing, and 'Can't Push A Button' rests above gully, pitched down drums that beef up the bigness and provide a solid basis on which it's stabby basses can roar through the spaces. Spiller puts in a wicked performance on 'Flashbang', as its inch-perfect drums inch out with devilish precision, the perfect accompaniment to a bassline that's like an elbow in the face - but in a good way. Top notch.
Review: Spiller has channelled the chaotic energy of the dancefloor for this EP, a musical dexterity which has permitted him to create this absolute fire of a release. 'Virus' rolls out above a set of heavyweight drums and crashing hi-hats, which underpin a complex, chaotic yet precise mash of intertwined bass synths and old-school sampling. 'Dope Shit' opens with a heavy arrangement that's matched in its upbeat drum lines, a serene moment of construction in what quickly turns into a very rough sea full of choppy basses and dirty sonics. Banging, and the other two won't let you down either.
Review: He of "Groovejet" and "Crybaby" fame, Spiller just doesn't quit. And good for him; he knows his funky house science! And here he's folding in a little jazz sensibility; both in the minor chords and the unpredictable jumps and twists in the arrangement. Nina Miranda's smoky vocals play up to this fusion well, making it yet another Spiller 'deal sealer'. Remix-wise Bottin goes for a Greg Wilson style electro boogie flavour, the Supermen Lovers throw in a few more wukka-wukkas and big fat Hammond and even Spiller gets in on the remix action with a warped jam of filters and chopped vocals. Easily his most leftfield moment to date.
