Review: Celebrating their tenth anniversaries, Mord and RYC deliver this superb compilation. Given the depth and breadth of their collective experience, this collection spans a range of sounds and styles. At the deeper end of the spectrum, there's the wonderful 90s melodies of Ritzi Lee's "Neutropia" and Amotik's "Laal", where hypnotic, Sleeparchive-esque tones bubble up over a stripped back groove. On a break beat tip, Uvb's "Mortifere" is a dense, mesmerising club track, while Brendon Moeller's "Hot Pursuit" resounds to a clanging, steely rhythm. The compilation has no shortage of club tracks either: there's the all-encompassing tonal builds of Bas Mooy's "Vedette", Kaiser's coruscating minimalism on "Disciplined Soldiers" and the gloomy industrial breaks of Orphx's "Slipping Through My Fingers".

How Much Do You Know? EP

One-armed Leg - (7:34) 135 BPM
Talking Drum - (5:12) 140 BPM
Till You Get It Off - (7:46) 135 BPM
Review: Balancing depth with force, Stanislav Tolkachev delivers one of his career highlights to date. "Pockets Full of Lighters" starts the release in trance mode, with a cacophony of icy synths unfolding over a jagged rhythm. "Zero Seconds Ago" is more linear and direct, with the focus on steely drums and utilitarian percussion. "One-Armed Leg" sees Tolkachev venture to the outer limits of techno, soldering stepping beats with rough, visceral tones. On a more abstract note, there's the offbeat, skittering drums and tones of "Talking Drum". Tolkachev rounds off the release with "Till You Get It Off", a pitter-patter succession of tonal shifts.

Inigo Kennedy - "Lucid" - (7:13) 134 BPM Hot
Samuli Kemppi - "Trees Below Surface" - (5:53) 126 BPM
Tonske - "Obscure" - (6:01) 130 BPM
Review: For its third release, Cogo brings together some of techno's most talented producers. Stanislav Tolkachev's "Tell The Truth And Run" revolves around firing percussion and tough kicks, with these elements providing the basis for tweaked tones. In contrast, Inigo Kennedy ventures down a less visceral route for "Lucid"; peppered with his signature evocative tones and featuring a pulsating bass and subtle acid squelches, the combination makes for a hypnotic sound. Meanwhile, Samuli Kemppi proves why he is one of Europe's most respected techno artists as he delivers the dubbed out "Trees Below Surface", while Tonske delivers a darker take on underground sounds with the menacing groove of "Obscure".

DJ Saint Pierre - "Markarian 501" - (5:40) 136 BPM Hot
Review: Illegal Alien re-ignites its No Boundaries split series with a red hot release that brings together artists from around the world. "That's All We Know" is the work of Stanislav Tolkachev, Mari Mattham and label owner Ricardo Garduno, and sees them work together to deliver a gritty, bleep-led slice of techno. The trio ups the intensity levels and tempo on "That's All You Know"; powered by a raw, insistent rhythm and hypnotic tones, it's a hypnotic but dynamic peak time track. French producer DJ Saint Pierre also contributes two tracks: "Markarian 876" is a raucous broken beat affair, while on "Markarian 501", he diverts his energy to deliver a slamming, peak-time industrial workout.

Albert Chiovenda & Stanislav Tolkachev - "Uncooperative Cog" - (6:17) 135 BPM
Eric Fetcher - "The Return Of The Archons" - (5:29) 134 BPM
Review: For their fourth split release. Granulart brings together well-known techno producers with some rising artists. Inigo Kennedy's "Stellation" is a great stepping track that combines the UK producer's signature crystalline synths with dense drum patterns, while on "Uncoperative Cog" Stanislav Tolkachev teams up with Albert Chiovenda for a searing rhythm track that revolves around pile-driving drums. The tracks from label regulars Kessel and Eric Fetcher are just as impressive. On "The Return of the Archons", Fetcher drops a mesmerising, dubbed out track that also features bleak synths, while Kessel's "Codebreaker" resounds to tough, visceral drums and is the kind of dense tool track that wouldn't sound out of place on a Purposemaker record.

Review: When they were asked to put together the latest volume in the "DJ Kicks" series, Mount Kimbie boys Dominic Maker and Kai Campos drew influence from a recent six-date run supporting Actress. As a result, the 22 tracks they have chosen - here presented in DJ friendly, unmixed form - tend towards the experimental and off-kilter, touching on a myriad of styles (ambient, industrial-era experimentalism, South American influenced tropical drum jams, spacey modular techno, raw-edged peak-time jams, mind-altering acid weirdness and intergalactic electro all feature) in the process. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the hypnotic dancefloor intensity of Stanislav Tolkachev and bleeping body-jack of A Sagittariun, to the skewed warmth of Severed Heads and the dream-like weirdness of their own exclusive contribution, "Southgate".

Review: This an altogether epic offering from Deetron; a vast collection of un-mixed tracks from his brilliant DJ Kicks mix (naturally included as a bonus cut) that is little less than a lesson in the evolution of techno over the last three decades. Amongst the 38 tracks you'll find fine representatives of a myriad of sub-genres (intelligent techno, dub techno, IDM, ambient techno, gospel techno, and so on), as well as past, present and future classics (Damier and Trent's "Morning Factory", Spacetime Continuum's "Swing Factory", Mark Ernestus's recent Equinoxx remix, the Motor City bliss of Rhythim is Rhythim AKA Derrick May's "Ka-o-tic Harmony", a brilliant old Black Dog Productions workout). In other words, it's a breathlessly brilliant collection of both well-known and obscure gems. It comes heartily recommended.

Review: Tolkachev has been testing the boundaries of techno over the past decade, and on Home, his third album, he continues to mess with its rules. Even dance floor-based tracks like "Five Grams Will Be OK" and "And Then She Fell" teem with rickety sound effects and bizarre tonal shifts, while "Bring" sees the Ukrainian producer veer into Landstrumm territory with its yelping rhythm. Of course there are loads of instances when Tolkachev goes completely off-grid, audible on the queasy, "See You Tomorrow", with the broken beats and bursts of noise that comprises "Misfire" or with the dramatic keys and pummeling drums on "When You Are Not At Home". No matter what direction he pushes in, Tolkachev is always worth a listen.

Review: London based imprint Weekend Circuit is back with a ferocious back to back effort by Ukrainian techno hero Stanislav Tolkachev and a mysterious newcomer. "Creeping Determinism" is a moment of Tolkachev at his particular finest: a pounding and broken peak time groove featuring all his trademark dystopian aesthetic and best of all, it's actually mixable. Likewise "Cognitive Bias" is surefire dancefloor artillery with its 4/4 onslaught powered by expertly executed series of chimes and bleeps, hypnotising you into submission. On the flip we've got "Khaliat" by the mysterious YYYY: a menacing, Berghain ready, peak time destroyer in the vein of Developer or anything on his famed Modularz imprint. His second offering "Hath" is equally suited to a heaving main room: a tough, surefire cyclical techno cut in the vein of Robert Hood, Phase or Rodhad with hypnotic beats and the mandatory claps on the kick, wicked!

Stanislav Tolkachev - "Building Peaks" - (4:16) 136 BPM
Review: With his Modularz label becoming a firm bastion of unfiltered techno machinations, Developer sets about bombarding our senses with his productions and curations across this eight track release. His own track "Heated" rattles through an industrial landscape devoid of colour, instead populated by reverb decays and distant clangs of metal, while "Dirty Drive" sees him stretching to work a melody into his machinery, coming out with a metallic dub chord drowning in its own echo, and "Dirty Drive 2" adds some complexity to the musicality and creates an utterly engrossing hook in the process. Shifted's remix meanwhile keeps a careful distance between the clean beat and the murky textures of the dubby elements. Handing over to Truncate, "Diffraction" flips the script with a central melodic hook and a thoroughly austere beat, while Jonas Kopp's remix beefs up that same theme by doubling up the phrase and edging towards a peak time monster, and Markus Suckut takes things deeper and into a more house compatible realm. For a real lesson in refined techno composition however, head straight to Stanislav Tokachev's "Building Peaks". Simplicity doesn't come more captivating than that synth line.
