Summer Riot VIII
A Sagittariun - "Machine Elf" - (6:59) 126 BPM
Kincaid - "Bulfas" - (5:47) 120 BPM Hot
The Red Flower Union - "Natural Self" - (7:28) 121 BPM
Statue - "Ivory" - (8:59) 118 BPM
Neil Diablo - "Colorado" - (7:51) 110 BPM
Review: Without fail, Futureboogie Recordings' annual "Summer Riot" EPs are always amongst the Bristol-based imprint's finest releases of the year. This year's edition - the eight in total - is no different. It's five floor-friendly cuts include a locked-in chunk of late night techno hypnotism by A Sagittarian (undulating opener "Machine Elf"), a raw and wonky, mind-altering analogue house jam full of Yellow Magic Orchestra style computer bleeps (Red Flower Union's "Natural Self") and a piano-sporting chunk of old school house revivalism from Statue ("Ivory"). Manchester producer Neil Diablo hits the spot with the starburst Italo-disco chug of "Colorado", while Kincaid gleefully dances through New York freestyle and Bobby Orlando style hi-NRG on EP standout "Bulfas".

Review: Leftfield vibes in various shades abound on this two-track, five-mix release from Germany's Le Temps Perdu label. In its Original form, 'Solidify' is an Afro-infused cosmic disco affair, with organic percussion sounds galore and breathy flute by way of a lead line, providing an elegant contrast to the electronic bassline and menacing, techno-esque male vocal. The Zombies In Miami Mix takes us into techno territory with a hint of acid, while the digital-only Concrete Mix is a lower-paced, druggy groove. 'Scratching The Surface', meanwhile, is a wonked-out, Middle Eastern-flavoured, sax-laden jam complete with a much mellower Christian S Remix.

Ara Koufax - "Natural States" - (6:23) 122 BPM Hot
Ara Koufax - "Test Dream" - (7:01) 123 BPM
STATUE - "Base" - (4:34) 123 BPM
STATUE - "Face" - (6:48) 118 BPM

Review: Cin Cin are pleased to present their eighth instalment and it's what they themselves best coined as 'a down under double header!' First up are Melbourne's Statue who give us a pair of percussive workouts engineered for maximum hip wiggling. "Base" nailing that classic house sound from the synths to the drum machines while "Face" goes for a more funky balearic vibe. Then fellow Melburnians Ara Koufax take us for a swim with two prime time cuts of pseudo-psychedelic acid nouveau. The noisy "Natural States" features some rich and spangling arpeggios over tough rhythm patterns while "Test Dream" is more fierce but inadvertently nails that Kompakt dreamy and evocative style of house.

Monument (Moscoman remix) - (8:46) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Statue is a new Australian percussion-based dance project by two drummers: Tom Gould and Nicolaas Oogjes of Melbourne bands Worlds End Press and NO ZU respectively. The pair now collaborate on Statue, a project said to have drawn influence from artists diverse as Floating Points, Pachanga Boys and even Ricardo Villalobos. You can certainly hear it across this handful of oddball balearic/exotica infused grooves. The polyrhythmic drum workouts on "Entrance" or "Admiration" will certainly appeal to fans of Harmonious Thelonious, while "Monument" gets a brilliant remix by Tel Aviv's enfant terrible Moscoman, rocking those funky steel drums even louder than the original!

Review: Usually home to the best indie-synth-pop acts in Oz (Knightlife, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts), Cutters now take a chance on a slightly different sound. Aussies Tom Gould and Nicolaas Oogjes are two seasoned drummers whose quirky new project Statues sees them combine minimal house vibes with the kind of trippy peyote-smokin' Aztec atmospherics heard and at a Damian Lazarus Ancient Moons party. Over the four tracks here we get 4/4 house beats embellished by a plethora of tropical percussion, some haunted synth riffs and creepy jungle whispers. Ace!
