Review: G Dub badboys Sub Zero and Original Sin link up once again for these two crucial joints on Crucast. 'Haunted' is tripped-out glitchy, weirdo funk-up with disjointed spoken vocals and interesting bass textures while 'Killa Sound Boy' sees them linking up with the inimitable Trigga for a proper tear-your-head-off mash-up. Tapping back into their classic penchant for nagging, infectious bass riffs, this one is a timeless rinse-out. Essential.

Review: Playaz are rounding out this year with their first compilation for quite some time, and their 2020 roundup relies on a fairly small handful of long-term label stalwarts across twenty tracks. In this case, less is more and the likes of Annix, Taxman, DJ Hybrid and Tyke all come seriously correct in this compilation, their collective decades of experience really shining through. Taxman's 'You Can't See' is absurdly good, with wonderfully stuttering breaks which emerge from shimmering synth lines before cutting into a raucously stabbing bass hits, a proper rowdy collection of sounds which get right to the heart of the Playaz sound. Bristol trio The Sauce pop up on the label with several contributions, including 'Spooked', an eerie roller with choppiness right at its core - big stuff from the crew.

Review: You can always bank on Subby releasing one massive EP every year. And this one's extra massive as he's brought four mates along for the ride. Complementing his already beautifully brutal style, each collaboration brings out a different side in the Newcastle producer: Maji tickles the jump-up darkness out of him on "Weapon Of Choice", Jaydan encourages a little off-beat subversion while retaining the dancefloor punch while Dub Motion complements Sub Zero's jungle roots with a delicious roller that's as soulful as it is dark. Finally we hit "How To Act" where Sub Zero and DJ Limited lay down the trippiest, most weirded out bassline you'll hear all week, month, possibly even year.

Review: Sub Zero don't need a write-up from us to get you pumped, the bassline on "Inside the Beast" already has floors packed out for months and things aren't getting any less claustrophobic. This EP brings out all the things we love about Sub Zero in one neat, destructive package. Big bass, slammin' snares, the ridiculous beats... let's face it, nobody does it better. In amongst the jump-up there's some real experimental gems, pushing his sound further than ever before in tunes like "Bakyard Skank" and steamy roller "Hearts On Fire". Well worth a shuffle.

Review: Having brought us some excellent re-workings in the past two installments of The Flavours series, part three has yet more treats in store from the ineffable Playaz camp. First up is Basher's remix of the legendary DJ Hype track "Peace, Love & Unity" - the soundtrack for a whole generation of junglists. Next is Jaydan's "Back Here (feat. Mia Sylvester)" with its progressive house-esque intro and grinding mid range and searing snares. Then it's over to Shimah for "Origin Of The Cave" - another more stripped back, spaced out venture before jump up reigns supreme again in "Coming In Stealth". Sub Zero's "Digital Blues" shows another side of the producer on a lilting, liquid vibe, before the low-slung splendor of Rewind's "Hunts Her Down".

Review: "Why Can't You See" sees the ex-D Dub member Sub Zero team up with Supreme Being and vocalist Grimm for a rowdy, synth-sizzling trip into cyberspace, with throaty bass, grinding subs and plenty of punchy drums. "Protection" is a stripped back, minimal venture with clicking beats and sweeping atmospherics, whilst "Your Flex" is a proper stepper with aggressive stabs and plenty of menace. "Broken Me" sees the return of Grimm before we are taken on a gnarly journey in "Run And Hide" and then a dose of David Rodigan-sampling jungle in "Clash" which concludes the EP.

Review: Bringing together a bunch of hot talent new and old, Hype and Pascal bring us the second instalment of their Flavours EP to add some warmth to these cold winter days. First up is a VIP of ubiquitous anthem "Tommorow's Another Day" - the track which broke the young Belgian in '09. Next is a collab from Wickaman, Hoodlum and Mavrik - "Na Fool Me" with its twisted up ragga lyrics, jungle flavours, it really packs a punch. Potential Badboy's ""Can't Stop Me (feat. Junior Danger)" is another Serial Killaz style outing, with rousing lyrics, grouchy bass and clapping drums. Shimah shakes things up with his "Electro Step" and Sub Zero's attempt at subtle is remarkable, before Erb N Dub & Legacy round things off with the dancefloor destroyer "Alaska".
