Review: This EP from St Petersburg's Sunner Soul serves up seriously celebratory fare, all of which may result in impromptu kitchen, bedroom or living room dancing. First up is "Easy Breathe", a chunky house style revision of a rubbery, sax-laden disco workout. This is quickly followed by the swirling, orchestral disco bump of "Don't Stop" and the killer disco-funk grooves, spacey noises and razor-sharp riffs of "Really Don't Need". Elsewhere, "He Comes To You" is an addictive, sing-along friendly disco-house workout, while closing cut "Hustling & Boosting" is the most percussive and bass-heavy track on the EP - a thickset romp through tooled-up grooves, filtered orchestration and mazy synthesizer motifs.

Review: St Petersburg resident Sunner Soul has had releases on the likes of Acryl Music, Midnight Riot, Tronic and Armada, but this five-track EP comes on his own Vintage Music label. Opener 'Dancing In Madness' ain't nothin' but a lazy summer groove complete with crowd noise and mucho use of the filters, 'Don't Hold Back' is in a similar vein but has a phatter bottom-end and 'Feel Good 2 U' is another late 90s filter disco throwback, before 'Handle With Care' leads us down a slightly more sophisticated jazz-funk path and 'Sunrise Jam' plays us out with jazz piano and energising James Brown-like whoops and shouts.

Review: With "Rhythm & Waves", Russian producer Sunner Soul seems to be daydreaming of sunnier and warmer times. There's certainly something suitably sun-kissed about the title track, which gently beefs up and re-arranges a bouncy, Clavinet-heavy chunk of groovy disco-funk that comes smothered in atmospheric party sounds. The tighter, slap bass-sporting "Universal Disco" explores similar sonic territory, while "Red Hot Disco" sees him layer up the percussion and filter sweeps on a joyful, mid-set workout. Elsewhere, "Let's Somebody Love" is a soaring slice up tooled-up disco-soul and "Get ready With Me" is a fine slab of string-laden boogie brilliance that sounds like it was beamed down from a distant disco planet.

Review: Five fine slices of contemporary disco make up this latest EP from Russian producer Alexandr Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul. 'Feeling Of Spirits' is a midtempo shuffler that slowly breaks out into an intricate jazz-funk keys workout, 'Keep Strangers' is a Chic-y stomper, 'Liquid Disco' has distinctly Candido-esque overtones, 'Lay In Low (MF-SB Version' is a mellower, more lounge-y cut with muted space disco stabs and finally 'Simply Around' rocks a funkier, Blaxploitation-like vibe. With all five highly authentic-sounding and avoiding obvious samples, heavy rotation at the likes of Glitterbox and Horse Meat Disco is pretty much guaranteed.

Review: Having conducted his own glassy-eyed sunrise s?ance, Vintage Music main man Sunner Soul has successfully summoned the "Spirits of the Boogie" for a hazy early morning dance. Perhaps the most alluring of these "spirits" is opener "Constanera Montana", a vibraphone sporting shuffle through drowsy Rhodes chords and metronomic beats, though the heavy and low-slung "The Bright Day" and all-action electrofunk workout "Voice of Saturn" run it close. Elsewhere, "Sprit of the Boogie" is a bass-heavy disco-funk party jam smothered in high-grade horn lines and brilliant bass guitar, while "Jazzy Patterns (Raw Edit)" is an accurately titled blend of dusty machine drums, jazz samples and crazy special effects.

Review: St Petersburg's Sunner Soul invites us into his "Discotheque", a place where sweet disco strings, groovy basslines, swirling filter effects, bumping house beats and hazy electric piano chords join hands on the dancefloor. As usual, there's plenty to enjoy, from the breezy disco-house elasticity of "The Mystery of Loops" and hazy, rush-inducing positivity of "Way Back Time", to the jazzy deep house shuffle of "Broers Vergadering" and extra-percussive, dubbed-out disco brilliance of "Pleased With Oneself". The pick for peak-time plays is undoubtedly opener "Back To Loving", a spiraling disco-house romp that rises and falls in all the right places.

Review: One of the joys of Alexandr Chebankov's work as Sunner Soul has always been its inherent sun-kissed sumptuousness. Interestingly, there's a little more hard-worn heaviness to be found on his latest outing - see the shirts-off sweatiness of throbbing, arpeggio-driven peak-time assault of "Bad Boys Disco" and the cheery, party disco stomp of "Sugar Love Babe" - but the producer's love of smile-inducing dancefloor haziness remains. Check, for example, the loopy mid-tempo goodness of disco head-nodder "Body Fusion", a formidably bass-heavy revision of a familiar staple, and the deep house influenced, breakbeat driven disco jazziness of "Love Space", which may well be the EP's most alluring moment.

Review: Lazy, sun-drenched (nu) disco vibes are the order of the day on this four-tracker from Alexandr Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul. 'West Side Harmony' is a looping funker augmented by crowd noise and assorted vocal snips, 'The Fuss' foregrounds a jaunty little piano lick, and 'Someone But Not You' harks back to that time around 1980 or so when 70s disco was rapidly morphing into 80s boogie. Arguably the standout, though, is 'Double Jazz Fusion', a clue's-in-the-title number with dusty vocal fragments, minor-key piano trills and what sounds like live double bass. Serve accompanied by an Ibiza sunset for maximum impact!

Review: Traditionally, Sunner Soul's loopy, loved-up disco, soul and boogie revisions have tended towards the slow and sensual. This time round, though, the Vintage Music boss is targeting peak-time dancefloors, starting with the chunky, bass-heavy disco-house dustiness of "What Are You Waiting For". He also serves up a mid-tempo chunk of disco-sampling, sub-heavy deep house wooziness (the ace "Ready To Pump") and a rolling, 110 BPM chunk of orchestral disco chunkiness ("Ultrafunk Orchestra"). The EP also includes a tasty bonus in the shape of The Sunshine Disco Club's "Sweet Journey (Synth Jam)", where warm pianos and winding, D-Train style synth solos rise above a dusty, spaced-out groove.

Review: More from Vintage Music main man Sunner Soul, whose tooled-up re-edits are rarely less than delicious. The headline attraction on the Russian producer's latest EP is arguably "Evening of Love", a rubbery, swinging and bass-heavy filter-disco revision of a soaring disco classic produced in association with Good Ingredient. There are, of course, plenty of reasons to be cheerful to be found elsewhere across the EP, from the drowsy, bluesy bump of "Couldn't Tell You" and the bustling disco roll of "Disco Orchestra", to the jammed-out electric piano riffs, filtered sample loops and bouncy beats of disco-funk closing cut "Groove On".

That's certainly what's on offer here, beginning with the breezy, breakbeat-fuelled sunshine grooves of opener "Summertime". "Ready To Dance", meanwhile, is a filter-sporting disco-house shuffler rich in good-time grooves, warm bass and punchy horn lines. Elsewhere, Sunner Soul does a great job turning Trombone and Roberto's latin jazz-funk jam "Coluna Do Meio" into a shuffling, floor-friendly, mid-tempo disco-house cut, turns The Mighty Ryeders "Evil Vibrations" into a bumpin' filter-house jam ("Funky Vibrations") and re-edits the un-credited "Boogie Land" into a loopy, locked-in roller.

Review: Sunner Soul is from Saint Petersburg, but claims that his roots are drawn from Germany. The 30 year old further asserts that disco music was played at home from a young age, so it is about more than just music. Now as a producer, musician, DJ and record label owner, he presents his deep/funky/nu-disco/edits on his label Vintage Music. On the Right Cuts & Parts EP, we have the funky and filtered disco loops of "Soul Drifter" (original mix) or "Right Now" (original mix) which are reminiscent of early Cassius or Motorbass and similarly "Rainbow Set" (original mix) that equally features that distinct 'French Touch' on this dusty DJ tool. The Russian producer has had additional releases on hot disco labels such as Midnight Riot, Editorial and Funky Town in recent times and we expect to be hearing much more from this emerging talent in the months to come.

Review: Sunner Soul's Deep Connections series appears to be an attempt to re-focus attention on his original house productions, rather than the hazy and sun-kissed re-edits with which he made his name. If that is the idea, then it has been a success; this second volume in the series contains some superb material. We're particularly enjoying the dreamy deep house/nu-disco fusion of opener "Spread Love" and bouncy, piano-heavy peak-time pump of classic house stomper "Help Me". Arguably best of all, though, is the druggy, basement-bothering throb of "Rewind", which recalls some of Danny Tenaglia's more bass-heavy house productions circa his late '90s residency at Twilo (think organs, hazy vocal samples, bold bass and crunchy percussion).

Review: Sunner Soul's latest project, Deep Connections, is being released in a number of installments. Volume one begins with a thrillingly woozy, synthesizer-heavy ambient intro (the notably trippy "Wave"), before the experienced Russian producer unveils a series of typically warm, sunny and ear-pleasing deep house workouts. Highlights include the sparkling riffs and chunky old school beats of "Cold Breath", the piano-laden, acid-flecked warmth of "Acid In My Mind" - arguably the EP's most potent cut - and the low-slung, late night hustle of "Are You Ready", a fine slab of retro-futurist U.S house heaviness that subtly doffs a cap to masters of the style such as Chez Damier and Kerri Chandler.

Review: The latest missive from the Editorial camp is something of a summery treat, with a sextet of producers taking it turns to lay down warm and inviting dancefloor treats, First up is Matt Hughes, whose "Lonestar" joins the dots between eyes-closed deep house and rich, bass-heavy Balearic disco. Hotmood lays down a chunk of horn-heavy, party-hearty disco house, while Massimo Vanoni marinades a sweet, sun-kissed disco cut in several gallons of tasty rum punch. Elsewhere, Sunner Soul works the filters hard on the low-slung disco house shuffler "Good Parts", I Gemin gets all sweaty and loopy on "Disco Fevah", and Andy Buchan does a great job reinventing an 80s synth-pop cut as a saucer-eyed slab of peak-time goodness.

Review: Whoever heard of a Siberian heat wave? Well Russia's Sunner Soul is just that - tirelessly providing warm and summery disco cuts from his icy bolthole. Here on the Lowdown EP we get four more of his delicious instalments. The title track is all twangy bass loops and The Hustle style flute melodies, "Dr Love" is a real banger, with a thumping kick propelling a loop clavinet riff and lots of spacey effects and "Wonderland Disco" spread a positive message of change over a snazzy disco-house rhythm. Lastly "Filtered Punk" displays a little French Touch in it's merciless filtering of some vintage boogie.

Lastly we encounter the laid back, elastic bass and clavinet-laden funky sing-along "House Party" by Fresh Wesley and re-edited by VMR.

Review: Sunner Soul is clearly determined to start 2017 in a positive mood. His first EP of the year urges us to have a Good Time, with the producer doing his bit to spread sunshine via a string of impressively warm and summery re-edits. He begins with a blissful ambient tool - perfect for mix intros and such - before expertly reworking a global disco shuffler ("Fuwafuwa Groove"). The swirling peak-time disco of "Good Time" is next, followed by an expertly executed cut-up of Evelyn 'Champagne' King boogie classic "Love Come Down" that offers a subtle nod towards Tiger and Woods. The sweaty disco-funk bump of "Ready To Back" and horn-heavy groover "Rescue Of Time" complete an excellent package.

Review: Russia's finest disco dude, Sunner Soul, sticks with own Vintage Music label for the Make It Better EP. There are four luscious jams here, all written and produced by the man himself apparently (not sure where those 70s samples come from though!). Anyway, it's the vibe that counts and there are plenty of those. "Make It Better" is nearly seven minutes of sinuous, filtered disco sexiness, "Sidewalk Samba" is all slinky Latin beach grooves, "Unfinished Fight" is a gorgeous extension of an 80s Stevie Wonder synth soul jam and "You're Lying" is a deep and gooey slice of disco-tinged funky house.

Review: Sunner Soul presents a seventh compilation of highlights from his edit-minded Vintage Music label. While there is one killer cut by Banana Lover - the slow house style disco-funk chugger "Just Like That" - it's pretty much a showcase for the talented Russian's own reworks. He's often best when operating at a slower tempo, and many of the collection's highlights - the fliter-rich horizontal soul of "Meeting With The Sea", the tasty Will Powers rework "Only You", sensual "Love Yoy Anyway", and sleazy, sax-laden "Body Language", for starters - offer genuinely dancefloor moments that barely get above 100bpm. Of course, there are some high tempo disco bangers to enjoy, including the excellent "Come On A Dance" and "Smooth Riding".

Review: Following a recent outing on Tonbe's Disco Fruit imprint, St Petersburg's finest re-editor returns to his Vintage Music imprint. Happily, he's in fine form, giddily chopping up, beefing up and rearranging a trio of happy, sun-kissed tonight. There's something particularly alluring about the woozy synthesizer melodies, jazzy keys, hustlin' house rhythms and disco percussion of "Transatlantic". This formula is repeated on the sensual but floor-friendly "Disco Retreat", where swirling strings and punchy horns help create a sticky, sweat-drenched vibe. Finally, the Russian successfully dips the tempo on the sax-laden, low-slung, bassline-driven sleaze of "Got The Floor", which expertly builds up over six sexy minutes.

Review: To date, much of Sunner Soul's output has been released on Vintage Music, an imprint he set up some years back. Kinjo Music boss Dave Allison is clearly a fan, though, as he's snapped up an expansive, six-track EP of summery, melodious deep house from the experienced Russian producer. Highlights include the spacey melodies, hazy chords and groovy rhythms of "Dive With Kate", the chunky, Chez Damier style shuffle of "The Wrap Around", and the drowsy chords, dubby bass, and cymbal-heavy percussion of mid-tempo groover "Labyrinth". Germin provides the obligatory remix of this latter tune, smothering Sunner Soul's original in a wealth of jazzy, beach friendly musical touches.

Review: Label-hopping Siberian Sunner Soul is in a cheery mood, which may - in part, at least - be down to his return to the Vintage Music imprint he founded in 2009. The positively titled Happy EP begins with "Hang On", a deliciously hazy, dreamy chunk of fluttering disco-meets-deep house bliss built around slowly shifting loop patterns, stretched-out builds, cut-up samples and bouncy bottom end. Horn-heavy title track "Happy" is little less than a rush-inducing romp through party-starting disco-funk cheeriness, while "All Right" sees him expertly re-arrange (and tool-up) a shuffling, sun-kissed disco-funk cut full of rising string lines, fizzing jazz-funk synths and punchy horn lines. In other words, it's an EP chock full of mood enhancing moments.

Review: Here label boss Sunner Soul shares the limelight with pa Lachetto Beats for a split EP. Not only are the tunes shared, but so too are the influences. Normally sticklers for disco, here they embrace retro hip-hop for what is essentially a compilation of short loops and beats. LB gets the lion's share of the tracks with the Avalanches-esque choppy soul of "Spring Cat", the trippy stoner beats of "Midnight" and the filtered 70s lament "She". SS meanwhile delivers the sparse loungey funk of "Soul Beats" and the start-stop 90s nead-nodder "Raw Beats". New year, new direction.

Review: Russian disco and edits label Vintage Music is still doing the business good and proper. As said previously, living in Siberia doesn't stop these guys living a sun kissed dream and more power to them! This time it's home grown talent Sunner Soul appearing for the most part, mining the kind of smooth 70's soul funk samples that even Kenny Dixon Jr. would approve of. We're particularly keen on the sultry Rhodes and guitar licks of "Do It For My Brother" and the oh so uplifting "Smooth Riding". Liner offers us "Ocean" but hang on; it's Sunner Soul's edit and it's brilliant too; that vocoder, wow!

Review: For as long as any of us can remember, the Editorial label has led the way in multi-artist re-edit EPs. Their latest missive is, unsurprisingly, a bit of a Christmas cracker. Tomas Malo kicks things off with "Welcome Distraction", a filter disco-house revision of Escort's 2006 revivalist disco gem "Starlight", before label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee drop the ultra-positive, disco-with-bells-on fun of "Your House Tonite". Pontchatrain gets "Nasty" with a chunk of righteous, floor-friendly disco-rock/house fusion, Sunner Soul delivers some horn-totin' disco-funk brilliance, and P-Sol confirms a "Luv 2 Dance" by cutting up a familiar old disco staple. As for Mars, he heads for the end-of-night close dance via sensual R&B vocals, nods to P-funk and some superbly sumptuous synths.

Review: As the nights grow darker and the air turns chillier, the Editorial crew are at hand to make us glow with an excellent selection of glowing disco cuts from five top-notch producers. Highlights include the sea breeze and cocktails vibes of Sunner Soul's "Heaven's Rhodes", its deeper, late night cousin "We Can't Stay" and the slick, bassy shuffle of "Mossa" by Funkyard.

Sampling As An ArtEXCLUSIVE
Review: If you didn't know better, you might expect Sampling As An Art to be some kind of experimental tribute to the potential of the sampler. Sunner Soul doesn't deal in such pretentiousness, though, and instead serves up a trio of heady deep house jams that make great use of hand-picked samples from a range of soul, funk, jazz, Brazilian and disco records. It's a tried-and-tested approach, but one that pays dividends. All three tracks are warm, hazy and musically evocative, with beats that swing rather than slam in the same way as acclaimed material by the likes of Andres and Jus-Ed. Our pick is probably the stab-heavy bounce of "Flip Side of the Dark", but the slowly evolving "View of Passengers" runs it close.

Review: Editorial are back with more throwback disco sounds for our decadent dancefloor (guilty) pleasure! Starting out with the sublime deep soul of Slow Steps "We Won't Have To Cry No More (re-work)" they then launch into Los Angeles' Dino (yes, not Gino!) Soccio's "West Athena Funk" which stays on the soul train for a while until the epic boogie drama of Rayko's "Magic Number" ups the tempo, good and proper. Danny Deluxe serves up some summery Balearic vibes on "The Best Years" but they leave the best for last with Sunner Souls' "Show Me Your Love", a funky disco house groove for late night fashion crowds, which is ironically by a Siberian producer! We can dig it!

Here they keep the heat on with a new summer-friendly compilation, Golden Grooves. There are 15 choice cuts here, all of which employ a formula of providing a mellow house frame on which to hang some filtered vintage samples. Highlights include the serpentine bassline of Matt Hughes' cocktail-houser "Rodeo Warrior", the Minnie Ripperton-with-a-backbeat haze of "The Spirit" by The Groovers and the spacey hiNRG disco of "Body Heat".

Review: With the gamut of disco out there sometimes all you need is the one compilation to get you through at least some of the night. Should you be after such a collection, Vintage Music deliver the perfect package with this 16-track compilation of sultry disco, funk-laced soul. Letta M's opener is a highlight and might remind you of early Kylie mixed with newer disco vibes, while the smokey vocal of Mike F's "After Your Love" turns up the heat to 11. For some dubbed out, Tropicana and cosmic vibes it's all about "Chain Reaction" and you'll know you've reached the end of this latest Vintage Music journey with the space bleeps of Sunner Soul's "On The Way To The Stars".

Review: Great to see Siberia's Alexander Chebankov (aka Sunner Soul) continued refusal to admit that he's not living in the tropics. Any deep house leanings he's had of late have been put on the back burner here as what we've found landing in our metaphorical laps are four slice of pure, sizzling disco (ouch!). Steamy, balmy - however you want to call 'em - they're all gems, but our picks is the chugging "Late Night Symphony", the woozy, warped-tape grooves of "Mystery Story" and the hiNRG boogie meltdown "Rock With Me".
