Review: Return of the master chef! Survival is back to finish what he started on Dispatch in October... The 'Mira' project. Following the inaugural EP comes this monster which is a head-twister from start to finish. '4 Mins' is brutally stripped back to the most venomous feels, 'Ready' brings the big room hype with a vocal loop build up and a drop so disgusting even politicians feel grubby after hearing it. Elsewhere 'Jelly' wobbles itself firm with a real techno-like energy to the groove before 'Up In The Dance' brings the EP to a climactic and chaotic close. Bashy to the bitter end, Survival has delivered something truly special here.

Review: With a plethora of artists to choose from, Volume 6 takes a look at the more experimental beings on Hype's roster, to interesting effect. Mob Tactics set the whole show in motion with Elephant Man in a dancehall-inspired club banger cut with insane bass and high-stress sound effects. Total Recall makes an appearance in the Eastern-influenced "Ethnic Origins", taking jump-up to new heights. Playaz favourite Survival adds a trademark neuro touch to fastmoving breaks and eerie atmospherics, and Jaydan show's a sensitive side with the crisp, rolling "She's Heaven". A mature sound from the Playaz crew.

Review: Another compilation arrives this week from underground heroes, Horizons. This is the first comp that saw the label shift from the head music vibes of their earlier days to the nascent dark-step sounds of D&B's edgier side. Key standouts here include the properly apocalyptic "The End" by Insight & Volytek, the electro-house-ish "Alone" by Inknown Error, the serial-killer doom-beats of "The Jackal" by Dose & Teknik and the cinematic "The Yearning VIP" by Apex. End of the world stuff!

Review: This is the original compilation from cult label Horizons and collects 13 killer cuts from a range of rising talent within the D&B community including Saburuku, Naibu, Mutt and Sinistarr. They've been known to describe the mood of their releases as "hoods-up and heads-down" but there's quite a lot of variety on here too: opener "In Control" is restrained and soulful, "Open Wide" features sumptuous female vocals, "The Beautiful Life" is shimmering poolside stuff, while "Rain Maker" is hauntingly raw, "Lynx Is Playing At My House" boasts the 80s soul influences suggested in the title and "Revolution" even boasts guitars!
