Review: Four tracks here from Takovoi, who hails from Tbilisi, Georgia and has just a couple of previous EPs to his name. Deeper shades of house from the leftfield side are the order of the day generally: 'In An A' is a deep acid bubbler par excellence, 'No 44' sports the kind of dreamy, floataway synths that graced rave classics like 'Take Me Away' and 'Anthem' decades ago, but it's the hypnotic, midtempo title track that stands out - do my ears deceive me, or are those bagpipes taking the lead from around the 2:30 mark?! The EP's then rounded out by the mellow, downtempo and meandering 'Chicken Soup'.

Review: The Russian-born nu-disco specialist, Takovoi returns to Leng Records with a five-track EP titled 'The Perfect Match', offering a range of grooves and stylistic approaches, highlighting Takovoi's love for dreamy Balearic chords, soft-touch synth sounds, and colorful melodies. The EP's opening title track sets the tone, with sustained, sun-down chords, yearning lead lines, cascading piano motifs, and twinkling electronics riding a shuffling, post-electro beat and a warm, undulating bassline. In "Homesickness", Takovoi wraps waves of rising and falling synth sounds and melancholic melodies around a deep, hypnotic nu-disco groove. "Teenage Dreams" takes on a slow-motion sensation, bringing throbbing analogue bass, sustained piano chords, sparkling electronics, and the gentlest of beats. Takovoi's dancefloor credentials shine on "Bubbles", a slowly building Balearic nu-disco gem that layers up echo-laden percussion hits, eyes-closed melodies, and drowsy synth sounds over a bustling beat that sits somewhere between deep house and TR-808-driven broken beat. The EP's closing cut, "Another The Same", features a unique off-kilter approach to beat programming. Hazy female vocal samples, immersive chords, and reverb-heavy musical motifs gingerly dance on a bouncy and densely layered 4/4 beat. The main melody makes its presence felt midway through, elevating the track to a whole new level. It's a fittingly impressive end to Takovoi's new EP for Leng.

Review: Leng has offered up some decent debuts over the last few years. This two-tracker from previously unheard Moscow producer Takovoi is another. "5-2-9" is particularly potent, with the Russian wrapping snaking, delay-laden sax samples, warm chords, blissful synthesizer arpeggio lines and faintly foreboding electronic stabs around a heady, pleasingly chugging dub disco groove. "The Fox With The Dog" features a similarly tasty fusion of psychedelic electronics, layered percussion and glassy Balearic flourishes. This time, though, the breakbeat-driven groove is altogether heavier, helped in no small part by some seriously weighty electro bass and the notable presence of mind-altering, TB-303 style acid lines.
