Review: Michael Mayer recently described the music of Taragana Pyjarama - a pseudonym of Danish electronica producer Nick Eriksen - as "radiant". It's an apt description. Sitting somewhere between the woozy, off-kilter beauty of Walls and the glistening ambience of Trentemoller's more downbeat moments, with perhaps a dash of West Coast glitchyness thrown in (see "Pinned (Part 1)"), Eriksen's music simply shimmers with crystal clear beauty. As a debut album, Tipped Bowls is highly impressive, marking Eriksen out as a major talent. It's also one of the more enjoyable Kompakt albums of late, and that's saying something. Recommended.
Review: Given the immensely melodic nature of Taragana Pyjarama's self titled debut EP, released last year on the French label Fool House, it makes for little surprise that the Danish producer has been snapped up for a full album by Kompakt. Ahead of the release of Tipped Bowls, the iconic Cologne label offer a taste of what to expect in the shape of "Lo Ng" a shuffling, bleep infused track whose bassline reveals its ominous nature with something approaching zealous stealth. The percussion has more than a hint of latter-day Four Tet about it too. Complementing the album version are an Original Helter which strips back the groove to let Eriksen's melodic cravings shine and a live version that demonstrates how expansive the Taragana Pyjarama sound is when heard in a club.
Review: Whilst record label offshoots of mp3 blogs are de rigueur these days, first wave French blog Fluokids were ahead of the curve when they launched Fool House back in 2008. Their fifth release sees them plunder Scandinavia for the idiosyncratic sounds of Taragana Pyjarama, a young Danish producer who expertly blends house rhythms with organic hypnotic melodies. Whilst the name - inspired by a Roxy Music track - might be a mouthful the music is delightful. Those of you whose bookmarks are filled with mp3 blogs will recognise "Girls" which first surfaced on the more discerning hypem huggers last summer and newly remastered here sounds just as beautiful. Sitting somewhere between the techno brilliance of DJ Koze and the Border Community stable and the woozy narcosis of acts like Blondes, "Girls" retains a certain timeless quality, with warmth that always grabs you fully. Ricardo Tobar of the aforementioned Border Community imprint remixes the track and stamps it with a glistening dancefloor sensibility whilst retaining the qualities that make the original so appealing. Elsewhere the young producer - previously known for Hivern Disc output as Eim Ick -includes two further original tracks, of which "Ocean" is given a stunning headphone centric refix by Merok duo Teengirl Fantasy. Tres Bien!
