Review: The southern bass scene has been one of the most exciting things to watch over the last two years of its growth as artists such as Tengu have risen to the forefront of the genre. Here we see the dynamic duo team up with Four40 for a shellshocker of an EP, featuring two originals and a storming remix. The title track 'Right To Kill' has been highly anticipated for release for a long while, and it's no wonder why as it's lethal lead synths and super punchy drums carve their way through any dance. We also hear a weighty collaboration with Hybrid theory by the name of 'Slippin' before jumping into their remix of 'Right To Kill' which adds a whole new dimension of finesse to an already stacked release.

Review: Southpoint alumni Tengu makes his debut on the seemingly turbo-charged Four40 with two wedges of raw bass danger; "Tough" lives up to its name with abrasive industrial strength bass textures ripping and rubbing all over a classical speed garage drum arrangement. You probably won't be surprise when we tell you "Evil Ting" also lives to its name. This time the grotty bass and prang aesthetic is splattered all over a sweet and sassy UKG two-step with demolition-ready results. Get your lengs out Tengu mates.

Review: Madness from Manchester! Sola's Grand Theft Audio wrap up another stunning year with this truly epic VA that - as the title Full Spectrum nicely hints - reflects and celebrates the full dynamic range of this beautiful thing we call drum & bass. Over the 33 track range we're treated to all manner of treats and beats from dreamy disco-like flexes (B-Plexx - 'Cynical') to wild, untamed howlers that melt clothes within seconds of you hearing the bass (Replete - ' Theia'). There's so much swagger in between, too. Hologram's G'd up 'Make A Move' acts as the perfect opener while other cuts such as Korrode's futuristic dark funk stepper 'Alternate Universe', Voltone & Stuart Rowe's euphoric dancefloor bubbler 'Drift' and Tong8's soulful swooner 'Choice' all map out some of GTA's most exciting sonic parameters so far. Full spectrum by name, full flavour by nature.

Review: Tengu and Nina Wilde are on some mad flex right here, bursting through the charts like a pair of dementors on speed; this new collaboration on Illegal Bass feels like exactly the right territory for their pair in hazy, summery 2017 gust. "Loop Machine" is part house, part grime monster, whereas "Go" focusses particularly on the latter thanks to its pulsating flow of grizzly bass and sharp, jump-up drums for the head-nodding souljahs. Big, big tunage right here!

Review: As one of the most prominent labels in the UK Bass scene, In:Flux Audio have consistently delivered banging release after banging release, and the most recent edition of their 'Get Fluxed' compilation series shows they have no intention of stopping this trend. They bring some of their classic roster into the field of play as Pavv, Tengu, Zemon and Fiyahman all make return appearances. For us however the highlights lay in Hamdi's super groovy 'Zing Zoom Zoom', which channels vibrant bass instrumentation with super punchy drum riffs. Another instant favourite would have to be the speed garage inspired arrangement of 'Trigga Finga' from bassline high flyer Sekt-87 and In:Flux founders Tik&Borrow.

Review: As a label and collection of artists, In:Flux have been consistently impressive for some years now and there are few ways better to summarize this than a compilation. This 13 track collection, entitled "Selection Box 2017" is bursting at the seams with bassy goodness. We see long term label favourites Palize and Tengu all make fantastic appearances as well as a few absolute heaters from Connerz, Zemon and the wonder kid of the moment: Hamdi. Review: Rising stars of Southpoint and U Wot Blud respectively, the Tengu boys and Mofaux are a powerhouse bassline duo you can truly set your watch by. Going head-to-head, solo and remixing each other on this massive Southpoint EP, "Jinzo" is a bubbling cauldron of ideas and signature sonics. The lead track is a straight 4x4 groaner that chugs with a cool slo-mo restraint around 125, while Tengu and Duke join the grime dots with "Parasite" and Mofaux gets his best seasick bass out for the wobbled-out slapper "Nike Airs". Elsewhere Mofaux flips "Parasite" into a twisted 22nd century garage roller while Tengu adds the nastiest alien bass possible to "Nike Airs". And if that's not enough Habouchi's joined in for the final leg of the party with an absurd grit-jacking remix of "Jinzo". Massive.

Review: Brighton's Tengu has appeared previously on Bodhi Collective and 3000 Deep and now appears for local imprint Southpoint with some seriously dark, street level breaks for the late night on "Needed Someone" with its sampled R&B vocals providing a great contrast from its nefarious elements at play. "Squelch" is definitely more uptempo and uplifting with its pitched up house pianos during the drop, pumping four to the floor beat and what a massive bassline. Finally there's a wicked remix of the title track by Hungary's finest Sirmo who the gives it some proper UK funky flavour and blows the doors off!

Review: U Wot Blud? Is the UK's most forward-thinking bass label, and when they decide to celebrate something, they don't mess about. The occasion in particular here is the label's 25th release, and to mark it they have prepared this 52(!) track compilation. It's a flippin' rollercoaster ride of bass shenanigans, with some of the many highlights including the trancey, leftfield trap of "Hater" by Wizard, the neon-flecked bass pulses of "Blackmail VIP" by Aliii and the techy-disco fizz of "Nonsense Skank" by 94 Bliss. Best take a month off and get totally lost in this jungle of bass gems.

Review: Representing the south coast massive, duo Tengu have been crafting premier league house/garage/bass jams for a few years now. "Dirtyyy" is probably their toughest club banger yet, with swollen bass undulations and tropical rhythms a plenty. Forbid also steps in to add some more rolling housier vibes to the tune before the guys return with Albzzy for a low slung DJ tool, all sparse 4 x 4 drums and haunting synths. Rounding things the pair are joined by Karl Vincent for the hard-hitting "Kaifeng" which shows us just how fun the dark side of speed garage can be.
