This four-track exploration delves deep into the intricate machinery of contemporary techno, presenting a sonic narrative that's both meticulously constructed and emotionally charged. The EP unfolds like an abstract architectural blueprint, with each track representing a distinct spatial configuration of sound. Opening track 'AT1' establishes a stark, industrial environment--mechanical rhythms pulse with a cold, calculated intensity, suggesting vast, uninhabited technological landscapes. The production feels like walking through a minimalist concrete structure, where every sonic element is precisely positioned. 'AT2' introduces a more dynamic terrain, its rhythmic framework more complex and undulating. The virtual B-side reveals even deeper explorations. Review: 2024 has been a busy year for Tensal - and Dethroned is his fifth release so far. Fans of the Spanish producer will find much to love here. "Ufological" is based on a rolling, stepping groove, which acts as the backdrop for Tensal to unleash wave upon wave of white noise and a niggling electronic riff. The title track sees him opt for a different approach. Led by hammering kicks and a piledriving rhythm, it also features analogue riffs that build and build in an intense fashion. In contrast, "Sacre" is more understated. Like "Ufological", it's based on a rolling groove. Augmented by a menacing bass, it makes for a brilliantly moody finale.

Review: Hector Sandoval's Tensal project debuts on Void+1 with a killer four-tracker. The title track is a tough, industrial-flavoured workout - led by distorted drums and glitchy percussion, it will cause mayhem on the dance floor. Tensal changes his approach on "Squaring the Circle", where broken beats underpin an unlikely combination of broken beats, discordant riffs and rattling percussion. "Subbattle" is a straight, heads-down track, with Tensal bringing together noisy riffs over a driving rhythm. "Beg to be Destroyed" furthers his fascination with abstract sounds. Set against the backdrop of tribal drums and an undulating groove, he weaves in woozy filters and clanging metallic sounds.

"Collective Amnesia" sees Tensal opt for a stripped back approach; centred on a steely, jacking rhythm, it's characterised by splurging tones and drums pushed to the limits. "Inhospitable" is a high-paced visceral groove. Powered by rickety drums, it leads the listener through a series of builds and drops. Review: Hector Sandoval slips into Tensal mode to deliver this club-friendly release for ARTS. "Recall Damage" gets the EP off to an intense start, with pummelling kicks and a searing analogue rhythm recalling the more visceral end of the loop techno sound. In contrast, "Back to Birmingham" is a hypnotic affair, with Sandoval layering cavernous filters over dense kicks, while on "Emperor of Senses", he weaves niggling tonal blips into a rolling, percussive workout. Returning to the intense aesthetic that opened the release, "Huracan" sees the revered techno producer drop a peak-time, industrial banger, led by grimy, pounding drums and peppered with incessant riffs.
