Review: Rush Hour presents a meeting of truly innovative musical minds on its latest outing, with the iconoclastic Detroit producer Terrence Dixon hooking up with Jordan GCZ, one half of Juju & Jordash. Suffice to say, the results are nothing short of stunning. "Fretless" is a triumph of understatement, resounding to ghostly bass murmurs and subtle chords, while "Operation Delete" continues this theme, powered by stepping, offbeat drums. In contrast, "Space Chime" sees the pair focus on the dance floor, with atmospheric flourishes unfolding over a subtle, acid-soaked bass, while "Axis Mundi" sees them venture down a darker path, powered by Dixon's repetitive rhythms and Jordan's wired tones.

Review: As one of the most distinctive voices in Detroit techno, whatever the era, it's always an occasion when Terrence Dixon delivers a new album. True to form, this new one for 30D ExoPlanets follows up on a run of previous releases for Angel Molina's label in a supernova of fresh ideas that keep techno truly compelling. Even in the straighter climes of tracks like 'Final Results', there's a sense of space and reduction which challenges the mind rather than giving everything away too easily. No one operates quite like Dixon, and it's on immersive trips like this you realise just what he's capable of.

Review: As befits one of techno's most revered labels, Tresor 30 is a comprehensive collection that takes in a breath-taking array of artists and sounds. The compilation features classics, such as Underground Resistance's "Final Frontier", remixed here into a clubbier shape, the spellbinding deep techno of Juan Atkins' "I Love You" and Jeff Mills' timeless banger, "Late Night", one of Tresor's signature tracks. These eternal works sit alongside contributions from newer artists: in particular, Afrodeutsche's "Can't Stop" is a wonderfully dreamy affair, while RRoxymore's "Multiplicity" teases new twists from percussive techno. Thirty years after its inception, Tresor is showing no signs of slowing down.

Review: Following albums in 2020 for Axis and Tresor, Terrence Dixon now drops a long player for Rush Hour. He released the superb Theater of a Confused Mind as Population One back in 2014 on the Dutch label, and Detroit makes for a worthy follow up. Like Theater, it is dense and swampy, less focused on the pointillist sound design that punctuated some of Dixon's work under his own name. "8th Chance" even inhabits the kind of jazzed out style as Rob Hood's Nighttime World, while "Dexter And Joy At Night" sees Dixon take a more atmospheric techno approach. That said, there is no shortage of stripped back, forward looking dance floor grooves with the title track and "Music Box" sounding particularly impressive.

Review: To celebrate its 25th birthday, Nice & Nasty has enlisted Jay Riordan to pick five highlights from its back catalogue. The selections shine a light on the label's diverse output; Produse's "24 Ways In Which" is a rolling break beat track that has echoes of the Prodigy, while in stark contrast, Thatboytim's "Enquiries" from 2008 is a low-slung ghetto jacker. Riordan has also selected a Thatboytim remix of Rob Glennon's "Ratio", which is quite different to "Enquiries" and veers from ambient textures into raw broken beats, while Soundwarp's remix of Marco Bernardi's "Plastic Spanner" is in a similar, glitchy vein. Bernardi also shows up as his Octogen pseudonym to deliver a robust, bass-heavy electro take of Terrence Dixon's "Tranquility".

Review: Terrence Dixon's From the Far Future odyssey began 20 years ago when the first album in the series appeared on Tresor. The second, at times more danceable instalment, followed only in 2012, with another eight-year gap until this latest volume. Like its predecessors, this third long player is a hugely impressive affair and will leave the listener in no doubt that Dixon is a master of the techno form. From the brooding ambience of "Lost Communication Procedure" and "Lost In Space" to the gloomy pointillist abstractions of "We Can Rebuild Him" and "Remarkable Warrior" into the more full blooded club techno on the tough "Spectrum of Light" and the atmospheric, ghostly "Program Weight", "Part 3" once again reveals a true visionary at work.

Review: One would immediately not pair Thomas Fehlman, the renowned German experimentalist, with techno minimalist Terrence Dixon, but this album still makes perfect artistic sense. Although the pair had never met before they recorded it around the time of last year's Detroit's Movement festival, their sensibilities overlap seamlessly from the outset. Fehlmann's playful abstract nuances and Dixon's pointillist sense of repetition make tracks like "The Corner" and "Patterns & Senses" danceable but also deeply experimental. While Dixon's hypnotic approach takes over on the driving "Strings In Space", in the main, this is an work of creative equals, as the steppy "Experiment 3" and the deep space ambience of "Landline" demonstrate.

Review: If anyone is able to make the concept of a 21-track, space travel-focused album work in 2017, it's Terrence Dixon. The Detroit artist has enjoyed a creative purple patch since he came out of retirement a few years ago, and Twilight reinforces the fact that he will always be one of modern electronic music's most individualistic talents. It contains deep jams ("Mission Incomplete"), more abrasive cuts - check "Inside Radio Room" and "I Stay Posted Up" - alongside abstract oddities like the half-heard vocals and detuned bleeps of "In Orbit" and the warbling synths on "When At Home". The common bond here, as is the case on all his works, is the idiosyncratic Dixon brings to each track, as if he is beaming his nuanced approach in from outer space.

Review: Dreamy Harbour celebrates 25 years of Berlin institution Tresor with several new and unreleased cuts by staples of the club and its seminal in house label alike. Featuring work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno (ie economic neglect and broken industry) were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin. Techno a found new, vigorous expression. "Without Tresor, Berlin would not be what it is today," concludes founder Dimitri Hegemann. "Even though it sounds a bit pretentious, it is true. Tresor was the prototype for an extraordinary club. It was only possible as a combination of the right time, the right place, the right content and determined people." Review: French producer EinKa has pulled off something of a coup for this EP on his own Goldmin label, joining forces with Detroit legend Terrence Dixon. The duo delivers two collaborative tracks. First, they serve up the heartfelt, melancholic deep house creepiness of "The Edge", before moving further towards standard techno territory with the hissing Motor City cymbals, undulating rhythms and downbeat chords of "Subconsciously". Each producer also delivers a solo track, with Dixon's spooky, deep space-meets-underwater workout "Clear Road Ahead" just edging out EinKa's bustling deep house cut "Tension" in the 'best track' stakes.
