Review: SHDW's label marks its twentieth release with this weighty compilation. Drawing on some of the most respected names in techno, volume three is full of peak-time bangers. There's the lean, rolling techno of Chlar's "Inside Us", while Dax J showers the listener with waves of acid tones on the steely, peak-time "Celestial Dub". The Advent's "Randomized" is a bruising and quite brilliant industrial techno workout. While Blawan's hyperactive "Don't You Dare Squawk At Me" hovers just below the 160 bpm mark, not all of the compilation is as intense. Vocals are mixed with chiming chords on Gary Beck's "Fold" and Z.I.P.P.O's "Broken Game" is a deep Detroit techno track.

Review: In what is fast developing into a state of the techno nation compilation, Illegal Alien delivers the second volume of Between Lands & Oceans. The Advent's "Tall Whites" is a lean, pacy techno track that takes the listener back to the act's mid to late 90s sound, while on "Aztek", Vinicius Honorio drops a similar, albeit more abrasive club track and Fixon's "Small Doses" is a rough take on Chicago ghetto techno. In contrast, N?rbak's "Rule Of Rescue" is a more nuanced, stepping track, while Abstract Division's "Encoder" and Merino's "Entering Colundi Galaxy" both focus on a subtle, tonal take on techno, inspired by Sahko and Sleeparchive.

Review: Perc's Tracks Of... has become the unofficial annual state of the hard techno nation synopsis, and 2020 is no different. It features label favourites such as AnD, Manni Dee and Scalameriya, who contribute linear, driving tracks (Dee's "The Wolves" and "Exploit Me, I'm Yours"), crunchy industrial bangers ( Scalameriya's intense "Plothole") and searing acid workouts (AnD's "Morning Sesh").
But this year's edition also welcomes newer names to the stable such as Ghost in the Machine and Tymon, who impress with the visceral "Breaking the Seal" and the broken beat "Woodman" respectively. The compilation also collects tracks that veteran producer The Advent's released this year on the label, with the lean rhythm of "Scorched" and the jacking "Planting Seeds" - a follow-up to the 1997 track "House Seed" - really standing out.

Review: Ben Klock's label marks its 30th release with a much-anticipated release from Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent. With a pedigree that stretches back nearly three decades and includes benchmark releases like Elements of Life, Ferreira is a worthy addition to the roster. "True State" kickstarts the EP with grimy tones underpinned by urgent percussion, while on "Foothold", he picks up the pace as moody stabs are fused with razor sharp percussion over a lean, driving rhythm. "Human Form" is just as dynamic: stripped back to basics, the combination of hollowed out drums, rumbling bass and scatter gun percussion is among the most distinctive music Klockworks has released so far.

Review: Coyu's label has scored a serious coup for its latest release, recruiting techno legend The Advent aka Cisco Ferreira to deliver a superb three- track EP. "Witches Spell" is led by churning, dubbed out chords and razor sharp percussion and these elements are underpinned by tight drums. In contrast, "Live 98 Tour" is a high-paced banger, that is redolent of the looped techno sound that Ferreira pioneered during the mid-90s on the Elements of Life long player. He then hooks up with Zein to shine a light on the other side of The Advent canon: "Same 4" is a hyperactive electro track that fuses dreamy synths with splurging bass to create a distinctive, futuristic sound.

Review: Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent delivers his first electro album in 17 years - and what better platform than Cultivated Electronics. The artwork for Life Cycles echoes the Advent's timeless Elements of Life debut album from 1995, and the music is also similar on the breaking electro-techno of "Music Is Life" and the hyper-speed breaker, "Electrical Sounds". Elsewhere, Ferreira takes us on a trip through classic Detroit sounds on "This Is Not" and on "Vast", he delivers a more abrasive, grainy take. Shifting focus once again, "L.U." and "Stasis V2" are high-paced ghetto bangers. It's a remarkably fresh and rounded affair from one of the great artists of the electro genre.
