Review: Jamie Odell aka Jimpster's London based label Freerange returns with a new compilation series entitled Almanac which showcases this highly regarded deep house imprint's current extended roster and believe us right now when we tell you: there's a who who on offer here! Featuring Aussie Andy Hart, Dutch duo Detroit Swindle and Hamburg's Kollektiv Turmstrasse to name but a few. Our favourites, again, if only we could pick a few, are as follows: We Play House main man from Belgium Red D with the sultry and emotive deepness of "Chez", Montreal's undisputed king of latin-microhouse Guillaume Coutu Dumont with the summery disco sleaze of "You Lost It" and Pittsburgh Track Authority with the dusty MPC jack of "Gold Trim". Oh and one more? It'd have to be Chicago's Chrissy with the sexy late night EBM noir crossover of "Presidential Astrologer" which will also appeal to fans of the Comeme or Correspondant sound of late.

Review: For the first time in two years, Hollis P Monroe and Overnite join forces as The Black 80s. "For The Rest" is an interesting concoction, with the Canadian duo blending their own quietly soulful vocals with a hypnotic groove that sits somewhere between Sound Factory style muscular darkness, Visionquest-ish powder house, and tech-tinged European deep house. The intoxicating original is accompanied by a couple of remixes. First, Mathias emphasizes the darker, woozier elements of the original on a suitably shuffling interpretation, before Carlos Sanchez injects some toasty warmth with a tactile deep house rub that benefits greatly from a hot new bassline, and some seriously dreamy pads.

Review: The legendary Defected imprint continues its incredible pace with a remix EP of tech-house dons, The Black 80s. Joe Goddard provides the stunner here, transforming "Give Me Something" into a moody, spectral vocal house tune that'll penetrate your head faster than a bullet. Jullian Gomes, Overnite and Hollis P Monroe all have a go at the same track, each one bringing a different strand of 4/4 delight to the equation. Another whopper from the NY institution!

Review: Having debuted with the much-loved Go Home 12" on Compost Black Label last year, much is expected of Hollis P Monroe and Overnite's new Black 80s project. Hopes are naturally high for "Move On". Pleasingly, it doesn't disappoint. The lead mix - a version from Monroe and Wrong Jeremy - sets the tone, delivering a woozy, tactile, evocative and subtly soulful trip into European deep house territory. Overnite's version is even more emotion-rich, making greater use of Monroe's unfussy, soulful vocal and some chugging, off-kilter beats. Finally, Kollektiv Turmstrasse up the tempo and reach for the dreamy pads on an inspired deep tech-house version.
