Review: Krafty Kuts & Bomb Strikes, two names that when combined leave us with potentially incredible results. They join forces here to curate and design the fifth edition of 'Bass Funk', showcasing some of the most prominent faces across the entire breadth of breaks. The tracklisting for this one looks pretty monstrous, featuring the likes of A Skillz, Dubra, Arteo, Fort Knox Five, K+Lab & more. There are a couple of immediate stand outs however, with the latin horn melodies and vibrant rhythms of Ninjula's 'Spanish Princess' and the pure rawcus devilry of 'AI' from the legendary Delta Heavy both standing out!

Sean Brosnan - "Future Disco: Technicolour Nights" (continuous DJ mix) - (54:10) 120 BPM
Review: A decade has now passed since Future Disco's debut compilation of colourful nu-disco treats and disco-fired house grooves first hit record stores. To celebrate that fact, they've given their distinctive design a makeover and asked chief compiler Sean Brosnan to serve up another hot-to-trot collection of cuts in their usual style. As you'd expect, Brosnan has picked some belters, with highlights including Darshan Jesrani's sublime, mid-'80s NYC style revision of Galaxians' "How Do U Feel", the D-Train inspired synth shuffle of Flamingo Pier's "Hold It", the sun-kissed '80s soul/Whispers style warmth of Kiwi's "Midnight Driver" and the dreamy, synth bass-propelled deepness of Force of Nature's loved-up rework of Khotin's "Aloe Drink".

Review: One of Shambhala's most revered and friendliest neighbourhoods Fractal Forest celebrate 20 years of leftcentric bassline hurly burly with another resplendent all-star cast compilation. Ranging from the snake-like sleazing and horn melting funk of Opiou's "Ginger Lizard" and the organ melting sassiness of Neighbour's "Summertime Girls" to outright Krafty Kuts classics ("We Do This") and zippy bumpers from the Stanton Warriors ("Walking") via powerful full fat funk such as Gramatik's "Future Crypto" and A Skillz almighty brass band blazing classic "Dead Ringer", this whole collection represents one of North America's wildest, warmest and vibiest parties. Here's to another 20 years of Fractal fire.

Say Something
Say Something - (3:59) 128 BPM
Review: Not to be confused with the UK's Westwood label, ran by Tim 'dawg' Westwood, the Canadian imprint launches another fine, r&b-driven electronic monster by The Funk Hunters. Tapping into the current trend rather finely, these lot throw down something of a hybrid beauty, a poppy, vocal track that's fueled by grainy wobble bass and banging, in-you-face kick-drums. This is the sort of gear you want to be churning out to the Saturday evening masses, who will undoubtedly be thankful for your services in the midst of an inebriated euphoria.

Do This For You
Do This For You (original mix) - (3:12) 110 BPM
Do This For You (The Funk Hunters VIP Club mix) - (4:54) 110 BPM Hot
Review: Pan-continental collaboratives CMC & Silenta and The Funk Hunters have previously ruffled feathers with two releases on Westwood Recordings and now they're back for a third time with "Do This For You". It's a double-barrelled assault of a single, with tough, chromium-plated break beats, shimmering' 80s funk synth licks and a rap from Chali 2NA that includes a reference to Barney Rubble's sweater. What more do you want? Oh, maybe a VIP mix that strips everything down to the bare bones funk? Boom!

Shock Rollin
Shock Rollin (original mix) - (3:44) 110 BPM Hot
Shock Rollin (instrumental mix) - (3:44) 110 BPM
Review: A bona fide nu-funk original with a truly international backbone comprised of Germany (CMC & Silenta), Canada (The Funk Hunters) and the US (See-I). The result: a beautifully instrumented booty-shaker that's heavy on the shiny organs, an even heavier on the low-end funk and a breakdown that's so majestic you expect a prince to stride in on a horse at any minute. To top it off, See-I's vocals give "Shock Rollin" real identity and edge - they haven't been fronting the Thievery Corporation's live outfit for 15 years for nothing you know. A seriously cool piece of music.

The Funk Hunters & Skiitour - "The Plan" - (4:22) 110 BPM Hot
The Funk Hunters & Skiitour - "Whole Lotta Drop" - (4:42) 89 BPM
Skiitour - "Filthy Laundry" (EP bonus track) - (4:30) 112 BPM
Review: There's something rather funky in the fresh Canadian air right now, and native imprint ReSoul are breathing in six lung-fulls by the second. "The Plan" is utter horn heaven as we bump and grind to a beefy swing hook that's peppered with just the right amount of hip-hop snippets. "Whole Lotta Drop", meanwhile, takes The Dynamics' wicked reggae cover of Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and drives it straight into D&B town. Skiitour's "Filthy Laundry" finishes the set with a boogified 80s rock stomp. What a package.

Wild For The Night (with DJ Wood) - (4:11)
Ghetto Disco (with Timothy Wisdom) - (4:30) Hot
Review: If anyone ever tells you The Four Seasons' disco bomb "Oh What A Night" can't be 'badboy'd up, you are legally allowed to slap them in the face with a pair of headphones. "Wild For The Night" takes said classic (and one or two other cheeky samples) bang into the future with booty shaking glee. Elsewhere we find the equally glittering "Ghetto Disco". Loaded with a vibrant horn and organ hook and a bassline that splutters funk juice every which way but loose, it's yet another slice of guaranteed dancefloor dynamite from The Funk Hunters.

Slippery Addict - (3:55)
Fly Robin - (3:42)
Dance Up The Lion - (3:37)
Review: Swimming in support from spinners such as the Dub Pistols, JFB, Pimpsoul and Omegaman, Canadian funk duo TFH have hooked up with fellow breaks-head L&C for this exhilarating four-tracker. "The Ritz" makes brilliant use of '80s synth oddity "Puttin' On The Ritz" by Taco, while "Slippery Addict" busts out some classic '70s funk guitars and filter fun. Best of all though is the tweaked bass of midtempo banger "Fly Robin", which makes canny use of silky soul samples over a thumping bass beat.
