Review: Twenty-five years is a long time in any field. In the fast-moving world of electronic music, it's practically an eternity. That Turbo has managed not just to last that long but also to remain fresh says a lot about Tiga's immaculate A&Ring. On Turbo 25, we see the form this takes. There's "You So Pretty", his cheeky electro collaboration with long-time Turbo collaborator Jori Hulkkonen. Audion and Seth Troxler also celebrate the landmark anniversary with the searing techno of "Hate", while The Hacker goes down the industrial route with the slamming "Forcefield". Tiga continues to flirt with pop with the Soulwax edit of "Woke". However, the fact that he has commissioned Gesloten Cirkel of Murder Capital fame to rework "Easy" means he remains as connected as ever with techno and electro's underground. Here's to the next quarter century.

Review: Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX marks the second electrifying compilation from Eskimo Recordings, masterfully curated by Berlin-based musician and DJ Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Spanning some 50 tracks - this extensive collection weaves a captivating narrative connecting the dots between industrial pioneers like Throbbing Gristle, EBM legends Nitzer Ebb, and the post-punk experimentation of Malcolm McLaren or Big Audio Dynamite, all the while introducing us to contemporary talents such as Boy Harsher, Nuovo Testamento, and Years of Denial. With direct inspirations coming from personal voyages through Luca Venezia's record collection during lockdown - DEUX transports us through a hazy, pulsating clubland from yesteryear where a sonic journey pulls together other talent like The KVB, Jennifer Touch, Kris Baha and a selections of Curses own remixes and revamps.

RBMK (original mix) - (4:10) 115 BPM
Review: The Hacker teams up with fellow French producer Commuter to bring some serious electro heat to Sync 24's label. Roentgen is a dark, dystopian take on the form, with echoes of Hacker's classic debut album, Melodies En Sous Sols. On "Roentgen Part 1" this takes the form of gurgling, ominous bass tones and eerie synths, while the second part leans even further towards menacing low end sounds, this time wrapped around a wiry rhythm. "RBMK" sees the pair take the tempo down a few notches, but still the same dark aesthetic remains, thanks to the use of a cold synth line. MMT-8's rugged dance floor version of "RBMK" completes this exemplary release.

Review: The Hacker celebrates ten-plus years of his Zone imprint by delivering a first label compilation: Interzone. Take a skim over the tracklist and there's a wealth of talent on display, and following intro duties given to the honorable Miss Kitten, the likes of In Aeternam Vale, Jenson Interceptor, Gessafelstein and Alessandro Adriani all feature alongside Cardopusher, The Populists and DJ Hell. For further intrigue, Marseille synth punk David Carretta drops in with "Nuit Panic" - alongside his "Moskow Reise" counterpart Millimetric - unknown entity Hyperstellar, and fellow electro buff, Maelstrom. With extra licks coming from Commuter's "Flash Burst" and Djedjotronic's "Zonorama" - exterminate all rational thought and enter Interzone.

Review: For nigh on 10 years now Otto Kraanen's Bordello A Parigi label (and record shop) out of Amsterdam has cultivated itself into a go-to locale for some of the best in Italo, disco, synth and cosmically industrial wares from yesteryear and the contemporary retro-activists of today - people like Fred Ventura, Skatebard, Manhooker and Credit 00. The first EP for the label in 2020, following a debut album from The Steaming Jeans, is a various artist EP taking up a disco-inspired noir approach to Italo, electro and instrumental pop. Headlined by The Hacker with "Passion", expect slo-mo beats and subtle phase-action alongside the pumping arpeggios and harmonics in Armonics' "Universal Oneness", to the post punk synth of "Voironia" and the nostalgic tropes in Discobeton's "Leave Me Superficial".

Review: 2017 has been a good year for fans of The Hacker AKA long-serving producer Michel Amato. Having already impressed via rock solid EPs on Stilleben and Bordello a Parigi, Amato delivers his first full-length excursion since 2014. As you'd probably expect, Les Theatre Des Operations tends towards the alien and intergalactic, with Amato serving up a range of tracks rich in bleeping electronic melodies, unfussy drum machine rhythms and angular, TB-303 style basslines. As usual, the eight tracks neatly blur the boundaries between techno and electro - both rhythmically and sonically - while regular collaborator Miss Kittin lends a hand on moody and mind-altering album highlight "Time X", adding some typically sleazy and stylish spoken word vocals.

Review: Clouded Vision boss Matt Walsh's first mix CD, The Clouded Vision Experiment, gained plenty of praise on its 2012 release. Three years on, he's finally got round to putting together a follow-up. As with its predecessor, The Clouded Vision Experiment Level 2 aims to join the dots between bouncy, electro-influenced techno, warehouse-friendly tech-house, glistening nu-disco (see the Eskimo Twins' "Elegy") and hard-to-define, dancefloor-friendly electronica (Richard Norris's "Dim The Lights" being a great example). The unmixed portion of the collection is full of gems, including tracks and remixes from The Hacker, Pulp Disco & The Outcasts (whose P-funk goes-acid banger "3.142" stands out) and the brilliantly named Forty Fingers Dynamo.

Through The Ether - (6:27) 125 BPM
Mind Games - (5:23) 122 BPM Hot
Review: Veteran of the fist-pumping kind of electro inhabited by Miss Kittin and I-F, it's not so often you see a new release from The Hacker these days. Still, he's made it back to deliver three Italo-flavoured nuggets on Tigersushi in the style of romantic 80s arpeggios and fat synths he made his name on. "Through The Ether" is unashamedly cosmic in its tone, boasting elegiac reams of melody over those steadily pulsing bass notes. A rasping snare gives "Mind Games" a marginally tougher edge, but really this is sweet songwriting for swooning swingers on the dancefloor.
