Investigating bass music's widest corners, the heady concoction of tracks ranges from premier league bangers (Wilko's remix of The Prodigy, Noisia & The Upbeats "Dead Limit", Andy C's "New Era VIP") to fresh-baked underground rollers (Dossa, Locuzzed and NC-17's drone-jump buzz-cut "Ninja", Dub Elements' deep space neuro-edged shredder "Metaverse") to lower tempo tear-ups from the likes of Pex L, Au5, Flux Pavilion and Doctor P and Specimen A. Review: What did you expect from The Prototypes? "Pop It Off" is a frantic, dancefloor crazed anthem for the people of the night and Mad Hed City's vocals dutty up those techy sounds enough to give the track a grimy vibe. Ripping up the thick floor of drum and bass breaks from under it, Jaded takes the track apart for his remix, choosing a minimal dancefloor house style. Muchos bounce.

Review: From seminal YouTube damage to worldwide events and all sorts more, UKF continues to spin its own distinctive low-end yarn. Having made its presence known beyond the dubstep and drum & bass worlds in the last year or so, Bass Culture 3 acts as a pivotal release and shows the channel is far from genre-specific. Amidst the massive bangers that the brand is known for - TC - "Get Down Low", Must Die & Mantis - "Culture", Mob Tactics - "The Answer" - there are plenty of other corners explored, too. From the 808 allure of Buku's "No One Does" to the angular jacking of Three Bar's "Everybody" via My Nu Leng's unavoidable "Masterplan", this album represents some of the most exciting examples of bass behaviour in all styles of electronic music.

Review: Is there ever a reason to doubt The Prototypes? The kings of floor filling d&b return with the anthemic "Don't Let Me Go", a tune so euphoric it deserves to be played loud and danced to with serious dedication. After the upbeat love-in of the first track then, take a minute to recharge with the dark and dirty "Humanoid", a rampant explosion of cinematic vocal samples and sci-fi soundtracking. Next comes three remixes of the title track starting with a chilled-out house re-fix by Jade Blue and then followed up by a Jade Blue piano remix. Adding funk and a bit of sexy slowness was a fantastic idea, taking it up to a sparklingly fresh big top remix for track five was an even better one. Sped up, slowed down, funked up, stripped back, either way, we love.
