Review: It's fair to say that Legendary Sound Research has been on decent form of late. This double-header, featuring new cuts from The St Petersburg Disco Spin Club and label bosses The Legendary 1979 Orchestra, is another belter. The former steps up first, offering a chunk of sparse but attractive piano house revivalism in the shape of "Night Driving". JKriv remixes, thickening up the groove, making more of the relentless pianos and adding a few decidedly Balearic touches. The Legendary 1979 Orchestra go even further into Balearic territory on their sparkling, sun-flecked "Love Triangle Theme" (all loose grooves, darting synths and gorgeous pianos), while Manc deviant Ruf Dug provides the EP's highlight with his dubby, intoxicating, proto-house inspired rework.

Review: If you're going to launch a record label, it's vital to hit the ground running. This is what the Russian duo behind the Beats Delivery label have done with this first EP. Designed to showcase the emerging deep house scene in St Petersburg, it casually flits between shuffling goodness and eyes-shut groovery. The St Petersburg Disco Spin Club's sub-heavy "Like A Movie Star" takes top billing - not least for its curious combination of bass and cut-up sample magic - but there's little in the way of filler. Krill Tipo's dense, off-kilter "Let Me In" is also excellent, while Ponty Mython's chiming "First Date" should be essential listening, too.

Review: There's been a steady stream of impressive music surfacing from the vast Russian expanses in recent times, and one name from the area to definitely keep an eye out for is The Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club. Hailing naturally from St Petersburg, this producer broke through with a revelatory contribution to the My Friends various artist EP released by esteemed Moscow label Shanti Records (no mean feat when the likes of Rick Wade and Anton Zap were also on the release) Fast forward several months and TSPDSC unveils his debut release proper in the shape of the Swing Swung Swong EP. As you'd expect from such a title, the five tracks here present house music with a delicately jazzy swing to them as demonstrated on lead track "I Need To Have You Next To Me" and "Sample Customers". Perhaps the best track however is "Beat Street" which deviates towards 80s era Freestyle with aplomb!

Review: You'd expect a collection of tracks from the likes of Rick Wade and Anton Zap on esteemed deep house imprint Shanti to be pretty nifty, and - predictably - it is. With five soft focus excursions to choose from, there's plenty to get excited about - not least Wade's contribution. "Sexy Rostov" is as smooth and silky as we've come to expect, with enough bottom end groove to please all but the most bass-obsessed rave urchins. Zap's "We Are Satisfied" is equally simmering, but the real revelation is "Marwencol" by the St Petersburg Disco Spin Club - an unfeasibly beautiful slice of slow house brilliance that boasts some particularly intricate piano arrangements.
