Review: Taking a trawl through ePM's archives, the eighth volume of Selected throws up a collection of killer remixes from some of electronic music's most respected names. Robert Hood turns Oliver Way's "Stained Glass Shadows" into a piano house banger, led by celebratory keys and a nagging acid line. In contrast, the Carl Finlow remix of Theiz' "Motor City Bliss" is a beautiful, melancholic electro track, shiny synths encased in steely drums, while Aux 88 drops an acid-heavy version of Techmarine Bottom Feeders' "A Quagmire of Confusion". There's also an abstract dimension to the release, with MGUN delivering a wonderfully woozy take on Esteban Adame's "Home Sick" - a compelling end to this fine remix collection.

Review: Following on from 2020's Moving Forward Into The Past release on ePM, Mathijs Schippers aka Theiz drops another fine, introspective electronic EP. The title track features gentle melodies and brittle percussion, topped off with the type of sweet electronic tones one might hear on a Norken release. "We'll Find A Way" is based on a similar approach, with warbling acid lines unravelling over a gentle backbeat and "A Quiet Warm Sense" delivers a more stripped back, refined take on this style. The one exception to this home-listening approach is the East Island take on We'll "Find A Way", where punchy drums and nagging percussion lend the original's acid sound a dance floor direction.

Review: Theiz, real Name Mathijs Schippers, first made his mark on the scene in the mid '90s on seminal Dutch imprint Eevo Lute Muzique, then disappeared into obscurity. Well, he's back now after a 24 year hiatus with this new one on ePM entitled 'Moving Forward Into The Past' - and we can certainly tell you it was worth the wait. The title track, with its immersive cinematic score quality, is proper Detroit influenced futurism in the vein of 'Landrusing' era Carl Craig, while "Motor City Bliss" (like the name suggests) is hi-tech soul all the way - a tougher yet emotive jam with more dancefloor dynamics. "Beauty Of Machines" goes deeper into the afterhours with its cavernous dub techno motifs, and last but not least is a more than welcome remix by the legend Carl Finlow. The scene veteran delivers his singular sound as always with this electro remix, delving deep into sci-fi fantasy realms.
