Review: We do love to see a Thing longplay pop up in the store, this time unloading 11 awesome originals from across the UKG spectrum. The introduction of 'You & Me' sets a potent tone of emotional vocal sampling and crunchy drum work, with follow up tracks such as 'Time After Time' and 'So Nostalgic' allowing Thing to flex his production muscles and explore different sonic avenues, without the EP losing any pace or potency as it advances. This is without a doubt a project that needs to be taken in during a longplay listen if you want to experience it's full magnificence, but immediate highlights include the sumptuous sub designs and shuffling drum textures of 'Fight The Power', next to the uber-moody VIP mix of 'Forest Swords' and aquatic harmonic structure of 'Blue Ocean Love'. Outstanding work!
Review: Something that seems to be genuinely rare to find these days is a truly immersive bass album, exploring the various sects of underground dance music through a unique lens. That is exactly what we have stumbled across here as Thing delivers a twelve track epic, giving us a birds eye view of so many different sounds. From the aquatic percussive puddles of 'Blue Ocean Love; to the euphoria-inducing vocal delays of 'Time After Time' and sweeping sub shakes of 'Fight The Power', this album really does take us around the block and back again. We would definitely recommend listening in long play, but for some initial highlights, check out the dreamy soundscapes of 'Rainy Windows' and uplifting synth textures of 'Follow Me Around' for a brief taste of what's to come!
Review: What a wholesome collection of new school garage flavour we have here as the wonderful sounds of Thing returns to Dubthing for a full length LP drop, featuring twenty-six brand new breathy rollers. It's quite a thing for an artist to release a relevant full length LP, but to hit a twenty-six track collection with this level of consistency and quality is even more special. From the beautiful vocal processing of 'Time After Time' and tight drum clips of '3 06 2022' through to the murky lofi magic of 'Deep Sadness' and downright rhythmic wizardry of 'Pleasure Beat', this project sure does cover a lot of ground. If you can find the time, we couldn't recommend taking this one in on long play higher, with every individual track contributing something new, exciting and fresh to a truly spectacular running order. Incredible work!
Review: For this latest addition to the already exceptional Dubthing catalogue, we see the wonderful sounds of Thing unleashed across a full length album experience, under the title 'Future Beats'. Now, from the jump we would recommend you find time to journey in long play format, allowing the project to take its sonic course and wash over you with it's wave-like textures. It's a beautiful dive into glacial soundscapes and moody electronic hills of solitude, from the gorgeous synthesiser work of the opener 'Forest Swords' to the post-grime drum shakes of 'TV Nation' and introspective half-time rhythms of 'Falling'. This project really does take the listener everywhere, with a couple of individual standouts including the shuffling percussive textures and unpredictable melodies of 'Deep Sorrow', the smooth 2-step bounces of 'False Emotions' and of course the masterful harmonic backdrops of 'Blue Ocean Love. This is a very special project to say the least!
