Lev EP
Lev - (5:57) 124 BPM Hot
Reiki - (6:13) 122 BPM
Review: MAGA seems to see the Scenarios label as a vehicle for collaborations. So far, much of the label's material has been based around co-productions with a core family of artists, most frequently Cologne-based rising star Tim Englehardt. Maga once again joins forces with the latter on this two-tracker. The pair begins with 'Lev', a suspenseful, slowly unfurling chunk of heads-down hedonism in which minor-key melodies, drowsy chord and razor-sharp rave noises rise above a bustling tech-house beat. 'Reiki' is a deeper and dreamier affair, with loved-up piano motifs, hazy vocal snippets and sun-baked chords wrapping around a sturdy-but-tactile bassline and shuffling, tech-tinged deep house groove.

Follow
Follow - (7:05) 123 BPM Hot
Burning - (7:25) 122 BPM
Review: Following the First Contact release back in 2020, Cologne's Tim Engelhardt returns to Poker Flat Recordings with a new EP. In the meantime, the acclaimed producer/DJ appeared on many other esteemed labels like Stil Vor Talent and Watergate Records, showcasing his unique approach to deep tech house. "Follow" is a fine example of such; an emotive composition with slight hints of jazz and electro making their way into its smooth, four-to-the-floor formula. Second offering "Burning" is more straight-ahead but takes a darker turn, led by its infectious melodic bassline and hypnotic atmosphere.

Review: Maga's first '...and friends' compilation on Children of the Future, which appeared in the summer of 2020, was an expansive, 36-track beast that boasted a wealth of high-grade material from a mixture of established producers and rising stars. This belated sequel is a little more manageable - a solid 13 tracks this time round - but no less alluring. In fact, such is the high quality level throughout, picking highlights is tough, though our current favourites include the druggy, chugging dancefloor psychedelia of WhoMadeWho's 'Panopticon', the gently melodious and uplifting progressive house revivalism of Tim Engelhardt's 'Insides', the All Day I Dream style melodious dreaminess of MIICHII's 'Together', the Afro-tinged tropical house bounce of 'Modern Liquidity' by Rapha Fernandes and the warming, wall-of-sound roll of Maga's 'Tell Me'.

Prophecy EP
Prophecy - (6:42) 122 BPM Hot
Polygon Particles - (7:09) 121 BPM
Connected In Silence - (6:52) 123 BPM
Review: German wunderkind Tim Engelhardt returns to Watergate to follow up 2020's Rooted EP. The Cologne-based producer was prolific throughout 2020, seeing the release of the LP Idiosynkrasia on Stil Vor Talent, and remixes for the likes of Trentemoeller. From the sublime deep house stylings of the title track, which is as glassy-eyed and bittersweet as it gets, there's also the sunny and uplifting open-air vibes of "Polygon Particles" with a strong influence of Afro house and an innate soulfulness. Finally, Engelhardt executes one more expression in perfect dancefloor drama on "Connected in Silence", guided by a wonderful melodic progression and underpinned with moody elements which intensify the track's overall tension and suspense.

Rooted - (6:59) 125 BPM
Brought To Bare - (6:51) 123 BPM
Future Matter - (7:05) 124 BPM Hot
Review: German house wunderkind - his first single dropped when he was just 14 years old - and Poker Flat regular Tim Engelhardt comes to Watergate with a three-track EP. The title track 'Rooted' is by far the standout: with its nagging three-note synth bassline, this dark, hypnotic throbber should serve you well pretty much anywhere that house music is played! Elsewhere, 'Brought To Bare' and 'Future Matter' are perhaps more specific to the prog/melodic floors but just as accomplished in their production, with a hint of an Italo/disco sensibility nudging 'Future Matter' into the Silver position.

Eyes Of The Python
Eyes Of The Python - (6:58) 122 BPM Hot
River Of Oblivion - (6:41) 122 BPM
Review: It has certainly been a big year for German veteran Steve Bug, who celebrated 20 years of his famed Poker Flat label and the recent release of "Mantis On The Moon" with UNER. Collaboration is clearly his thing, and once again he's made the right choice of studio partner, this time in the form of Koelsch wunderkind Tim Engelhardt - himself a Poker Flat staple - they both stare directly into the "Eyes Of The Python" here for Sasha's ever reliable Last Night On Earth. From the slinky and hypnotic sensuality of "River Of Babylon" which offers up something more uplifting, to the sinister atmospherics of the title track which is perfect for those heads down moment during the warm up set - or the end of the night alike.

Carl Dern - "Eyes Up" - (6:51) 123 BPM
Jeremy Olander - "Life After Death" - (7:26) 122 BPM
Review: Since its inception in 2015, Jeremy Olander's label and event series, Vivrant, has become a home to new and established artists such as Khen, Finnebassen, Henry Saiz and more - all presenting their unique take on melodic house and techno. Now it is releasing its first ever mix album for Melbourne's Balance Music - and also happens to be the first in Olander's career thus far. With this long overdue project, he is bringing two discs of exclusive music from himself (under his darker techno alias Dhillon), and friends such as La Fleur, Ejeca, Locked Groove, Marino Canal and Tim Engelhardt, in addition to newcomers like A Friend Of Marcus and Carl Dern. Olander stated that the mix 'encompasses what the label sounds like in 2019 and beyond.. a true manifestation of our style, and what it's grown to become in the four years since we started.'

Rhy
Rhy - (7:20) 123 BPM Hot
When The Sun Illuminated Her Eyes - (7:46) 122 BPM
Review: With a considerable catalogue that includes releases on Poker Flat, Tim Engelhardt now debuts on another German dance music institution, Watergate. In keeping with the melodic sound that the sister Watergate club champions, "Rhy" is a wonderfully esoteric affair. Supported by crisp kicks and tight percussion, Engelhardt lays down hypnotic synth riffs, accompanied by a throbbing low end. It's exactly the type of track that will resonate at the Berlin club. On the flip, "When The Sun Illuminated Her Eyes" is a more woozy affair; led by rickety drums, it sees the Cologne producer conjure up a beautiful, hypnotic synth melody.

Review: The second of the three part EP release by Danish electronica legends WhoMadeWho (and their new Watergate 26 mix) finally arrives. This edition features German ethereal tech house hero Tim Engelhardt's "Under Armour", Echonomist's delivering some moody dancefloor drama on "At The End Of The Day", right through to the artists themselves delivering a stellar remix of Magit Cacoon & Lonya's "Shma IL" which is adrift in layers of intoxicating melodies. Finally, French enfant terribles dOP arrive with their new one "Radiowaves" which will take you deep into the exotic with its tribal rhythms, charming vocals and seductive orchestral arrangements.

Henriette - (7:18) 123 BPM
Review: Hamburg hero H.O.S.H. serves up the next edition of his new Fryhide label and it is by somebody other than himself this time: Cologne's Tim Engelhardt. The up and coming producer has had releases thus far on a who's who of labels such as Poker Flat, Innervisions, Green and Cityfox. His new single "Reality" is exactly the kind of evocative dancefloor drama you've come to expect from the man in recent times; with its warm atmosphere, inventive melodies and well executed energy. Second offering "Heart Resonance" goes down a darker route for this slinky, futurist, tech-house groove full of fuzzy hypnotic pads, sleek arpeggios and texturised rhythm patterns.

Chymera
Tim Engelhardt & Leonard Bywa - "Chymera" - (7:55) 122 BPM Hot
Tim Engelhardt - "Ida" - (8:13) 123 BPM
Review: Tim Engelhardt gets together with a new name, Leonard Bywa, for this emotive release on Cityfox. Given that Engelhardt has put out material for labels like Poker Flat and Joris Voorn's Green, it's no surprise to hear that the prevailing sound on this EP is musical and atmospheric. The title track revolves around a rumbling minimal groove, led by atmospheric synths and warbling acid lines. It's a subtle affair that sees the pair weave in low frequency tones and heavy bass stabs. On "Ida", Engelhardt flies solo and ups the tempo - this time the groove is more driving but the use of tripped out acidic squiggles, intertwined with woozy chords, means that the German producer doesn't lose his musical focus.

Nord (Mario Aureo remix) - (7:08) 123 BPM Hot
Review: Westerwald, Germany's Tim Engelhardt is back after some great releases on Cityfox and Poker Flat. This time it's own Berlin institution Ritter Butzke Studio with the excellent Nord EP. The title track is a deep and atmospheric journey track whose hypnotic layers and hazy atmosphere will create a real sense of travelling without moving on the dancefloor. Mario Aureo gets onboard for the remix and does a splendid job indeed; injecting the track with more groove (of the rolling, minimal house kind) funk and energy on a track that's perfect to transition into the peak time slot.

Tim Engelhardt & Leonard Bywa - "Trabant" - (8:53) 123 BPM
Tim Engelhardt & Autm - "Pan" - (7:18) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Westerwald, Germany's Tim Engelhardt has appeared previously on the likes of Poker Flat, Cityfox and Green; so he's not messing about! He appears again on the latter, run by legend Joris Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal with "Trabant", where he's teaming up with Leonard Bywa for a dark and melodic journey track that's just full of moodiness, suspense and yes.. a wonky and killer melody! On "Pan" he teams up with Autm for another sombre and bittersweet excursion through the deeper shades of house. So emotive, with its sweet melodies, evolving layers of pads and tight rhythm.

Mario Hammer - "Symphony Of Pulsing" - (3:06) 122 BPM
Review: Clocking in at 50 tracks, Tour shows that the German label isn't just about naive trance melodies and rickety, minimal beats. It starts with the deep ambience of Tominic's "Shine", which over the course of nine minutes moves into bleepy, minimal pulses. In contrast, there's the dubby house of Paul Bart's "Call It Anything You Want" and David Heckhausen's "Hang Zur Sonne Paul", a clicky, mid-tempo groove covered in organic textures. Despite this, trance fans won't be left disappointed; there's the buzzsaw bass and organic textures of Theo Meier's "Eichhorn", the gentle, spiralling melodies of Peet's seductive "Timers" and best of all, the brittle rhythm and day-glo hooks on Reinier Zonneveld's "Gevorderd Spelers".
