Todd Terry's mid-90s version of disco-classic Musique's "Keep On Jumping" gets a huge overhaul on this expansive remix package from Terry's own InHouse imprint. With original Musique vocalist Jocelyn Brown's vocals to the fore, Tee's Freeze mix is a classic funky house delight, layered with pianos and jacking hats, while the "Thumpin RM" mix is a sped-up tour de force that uses hefty samples from the disco original. For a deeper extension, check out Tee's German and JM mixes, and producers/DJs should definitely jump on the previously unreleased acapella and bonus beats.
While he may be a stone-cold legend, much of Todd Terry's recent work has been a little disappointing, to say the least. It's great to report, then, that he's back to his mesmerising best on this surprise release for Clone Royal Oak. While the picturesque, funk-fuelled "Rock That" - this booming, disco-fuelled bottom-end, Balearic keys and warm horns - is impressive, it's lead cut "Tonight" that hits home hardest. Boasting swinging, loose-limbed house beats, bouncy analogue bass and some superb hip-house era stabs and vocal cuts, it feels like a long-lost late '80s Terry classic given a warehouse party makeover. It's certainly worth the admission price on its own.
