Review: The Four40 imprint returns with the fourth installment in their popular House X Garage series, which does exactly what it says on the tin.
Across 19 blistering tracks, the Birmingham based label presents the very best of UK dance music, with highlights not limited to: the return of Audiosoul who serve up some sleek and slinky house for the late night on "Carnival" and "Please Leave A Message", local duo Cause & Affect (Tempa/This Ain't Bristol) remix I Killed Kenny's "Lets Go" featuring Jamie George - getting some serious bass driven attitude going on in the process. And an honourable mention to the cheekily named Peter & The Stringfellows who equally impressed us with their contributions - but for our money we'd bet on the very French Touch sounding "YOU & I Together" in particular.

To celebrate they're put together this immense 54 track collection that represents the label's many sounds and successes. From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. Review: It's about time someone did a bass/wine pairing session... And it's down to rising Birmingham tech monster Toni to show us how it's done. With its silky tech finish, juicy low end and ability to fit into house, bass and tech sets, "Merlot" genuinely live up to its name; smooth, fruity and versatile. The same comparisons can be made with "Rioja" without being tenuous, too... Its classic garage vocal chops give it that classic oak aged vibe while its melting pot of genres (garage, bass, house, tech) can be likened to the wine's reputation for many subtle flavours. Wine and grind!
