Review: Clearly, Planet Rhythm's A&R antenna is as finely tuned as ever, with the established label enlisting the services of Tony Hoffman to deliver a blistering three-track EP. Like his fellow Belgian Peter Van Hoesen, Hoffman produces a particularly impactful brand of warehouse techno. Indeed, "Submerge" sounds similar to Van Hoesen's eternal "Face of Smoke", with a resonating sub-bass acting as the backdrop for hissing hi-hats and a brooding tone. The title track is based on lead-weight drums, and subtle vocal samples intertwined with ghostly synth lines, while "This Time" revolves around a wiry groove, subtle but crafty filters and concrete kicks. It's a hugely impressive release from a name to keep a close eye on.
