Review: Sweet murderation! South coast stepper imprint SSA update their flagship "Up In Smoke" series with a five-layered slab of gnarly bass cake. Featuring a range of freshman talent - all eager to showcase their hair-raising dynamics - it's a fine futureproofed document. Highlights include MAMF's spiked out ballroom killer "Dance For Life", Operate's amen-addled hurricane soul showdown "Trading Places" and the weirded out bass shreds and sneers of Aliman's "Real". Peaktime business.
Review: You don't get more old school than ancient civilizations but you don't get more new school than the rolling, heavyweight sounds... Now there's a conundrum for you to chew over while you take in the feels of Top Dolla's biggest, most comprehensive release since last year's album All Or Nothing. Highlights include the cyclone style bassline and roller vibes of "Get Up Off Your Feet", the devilish drones of "Moby Dick" and the total fire carnage of "Good Friday". Riddled with drum switches, gnarly basses and a sudden neuro twist in the breakdown, it's a perfect way to end an almighty EP. Get civilised!
Review: Get ready for a techy hype as 2G12 Part 2 hits hard to end the year with a bang. Dark and deadly and full of the type of sounds bred to make grown men suffer night terrors, G13 have put together the second part of their epic dissection of the sector of D&B they call home. Featuring Bassline Terrorist, label owner DJ Rowney, Hedex and Harvest among the sterling, variety-stricken line-up, it's only a matter of time before clubs around the country are decimated to the tune of this EP alone. You're gonna need a bigger sub.
